Society: Clubs: Lodges: Churches ANNOUNCEMENT LUNCHCAKE decided and happy surprise was given to the friends of Miss Jean Dennis, of Orange, yesterday afternoon when her mother, Mrs. W. B. Dennis, assisted by her sister, Miss Dennis, complimented Miss Jean with an announcement luncheon. Seated around the table, centered with white flowers, the guests read in their place cards the secret of the occasion. The cards were wedding rings decorated with orange blossoms, holding two little kewplies. On the reverse side were the names of the bride and groom to be, Miss Jean Dennis and D. L. Dean, with the date August 13, 1921. In a lutter of surprise and greatest delight the guests showered their friend with good wishes, and the remainder of the afternoon was passed in discussing the whole happy affair to be. The Misses Lota Blythe, Margaret Cummings, Alice Parker, Margaret Parker, Dorothy Guthrie, Maurine Kellar, Mabelle Edwards, Florence Pixley and Frances Scarritt were guests of the occasion. The premier, carrying his fight on Northcliffe into the house of commons, read a message from the king repudiating the accuracy of a statement, said to have been made by Northcliffe in America. In this statement, as cabled here, Northcliffe was represented as saying that the king told Lloyd George there must be no more killings in Ireland. "I hope," Lloyd George told the commons, "that the king's statement may do something to sterilize the effect of the criminal malignity which for personal ends is endeavoring to stir up mischief between the allies; misunderstanding between the British empire and the U.S. and frustrate the hope of peace in Ireland."
