UXILIARY NOT FOR K. P. DUTY ALONE Urging a keener spirit of cooperation between the American Legion and their auxiliaries, Mrs. Carr-Marks, state president of the Legion auxiliary, gave the principal address at a meeting of the Santa Ana auxiliary. Most of the Legion boys have been imbued with the idea that the auxiliary was organized for K. P. duonly," said Mrs. Marks. "Now of these we are ready and willing to K. P. anytime for the boys, but service extends further than it. The thing I wish to bring about better cooperation between the Legion posts and their various auxiliaries. Our problems are mutual and our organizations are working for the improvement and general benefit of the different communities. I would have the posts and auxiliaries meet at the same time and be. After the business sessions they could join the women in a so-hour. We could combine our enquiries in community drives and accomplish many things working together." Mrs. Marks told of the visits of different auxiliary units to hospitals where exservice men are being used for. Related some of the practical devised for treating the boys have been scarred by the war, women, she said, have made mistake of giving the boys things have no use for. It is the peculiar thing that counts, she said. Special effort is now being made the auxiliary units, Mrs. Marks, to urge the exservice men up the vocational training offered by the government. An effort also being made to induce the boys keep up their insurance. The membership of the auxiliary, she said, doubled in the last six months. est stratum of oil sand ever drilled thru is to be found in the General Petroleum's Tonner No. 1 in Brea Canyon. At 1550 TonnerNo. 1 made a 450 barrel well. The production decreased and the well was deepened. At 2100 where drilling is now underway the rich oil sands continue unbroken. When completed Tonner No. 1 should make a record producer. Tonner No. 3 continues to be the G. P.'s big producer, making close to 600 barrels daily. At Olinda the Olinda Land Co.'s two drilling wells are held up with fishing jobs. No. 22 is fishing at 2800 and No. 23 at 1000 feet. The Petroleum Development Co—Santa Fe—is about ready to put No. 92 now drilling at 2950 on production. The well has been showing a lot of oil and gas. No. 94 shows 2475 feet in brown shale and No. 95 is a new well marked with a rig. For the first time in a good many years the Union Oil Co. has no actual drilling underway on the Stearns lease at Brea. Nos. 56 and 75 are standing and the rig is being moved at No. 65. Grades for four new wells, Nos. 69, 78, 81, 79 and 80, have been made, but as yet the rigs have not been erected. The Stearns lease being owned outright the Union is in a position to drill the property at pleasure. On the Graham-Loftus a fishing job is holding up the work on the deep test well No. 53. Drilling got to 3275 where a bit was lost. California's newest oil field, are moving with whirlwind speed. The Sunday crowds that filled Huntington Beach to overflowing are now to be found on Signal Hill. Huntington Beach has noticed this change and is hoping that some big wells will be bred in around the west side of the field that will pull the people back. The Shell Co.'s discovery well on Signal Hill was in action long enough a few days ago to establish the fact that it is a great well. Sand has been giving considerable trouble and until this is all washed out no regular and uniform production can be expected. In addition to washing out No. 1 the Shell is rigging up at Nesa No. 1, grading for Wilbur No. 1, and building a rig for Stake-miller No. 1. A check of the San Martenas and Shell No. 1 logs reveals the fact that corresponding formations are running 50 to 80 feet deeper in the San Martenas well.
