CLOSE BREA STORES DURING FUNERAL BREA, July 11. (Spl.)—Mrs. Vescelie, daughter of Mr. Adkins, is in Brea looking after his affairs. The stores will close from 10 to 12 a.m. Monday during the funeral of Mr. Adkins, Brea Progress publisher. Mrs. Schweitzer and family will go to Los Angeles and elsewhere for ann outing-of a week or two-next week. The young people of the Brea Christian church are very busy preparing for the big time, Friday night, July 15. H. J. Gomer and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and Dr. Adams motored to Elamor lake the first of the week. They had a delightful trip. Mr. George Shuppert, wife, son and niece, Miss Yenger, were Little Bear visitors the first of the week. They reported a fine trip. Meudames Betta M. Pickering and Ruth Humphrey of East La Habra, were Brea visitors Wednesday afternoon to attend the missionary meeting at the Christian church. Mr. Clarence Dean, with the Progress will spend Saturday and Sunday at Balboa with his wife. The Progress office will be closed for a few days due respect to the owner, Mr. Adkins, who died recently. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Reynolds were Long Beach visitors last Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Norris of Orcut, are visiting her sister, Mrs. Petit of this place. Mrs. William Toot, of Vermont Sen., Los Angeles, and Mrs. Lester Douglas of Los Angeles, were Brea visitors last Wednesday to attend the missionary meeting at the Christian church. Rev. W. E. Spicer and wife were delighted to have Misses Gertrude and Stella Holmes from Ormsha Neb. visit their home Sunday. They also visited Rev. Marsh and family, he being a former pastor at their home in Nebraska. They will go to Portland, Ore., to visit another sister and mother while touring the country. W. H. Swanp, of Walnut-st., will go as a delegate to Denver, Cole, Sunday for the Union Local of Brea. Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey entertained Mrs. Chambers of West Coast at a delicious luncheon Friday. Sen Salveson, of Fullerton, recently of Brea was a familiar figure on the streets of Brea Friday. He also visited islands in East La Habra. West Coast Lease WEST COAST AND VIOINITY, July 11. (Spl.)—Pauline Bouliger spent last week with her-aunt, Mrs. A. G. Payne, of Hyde Park, Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Cobb, of Burbank spent the week-end at the home of her-mother, Mrs. Keen. Mrs. Rathburn, of Freeso, is here for a month or more with her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chris McCoy. She was the dinner guest of Mrs. C. H. Keen last Saturday. R. James and family meted to Huntington Beach Thursday on business. Robert Tash and wife left for Chicago, Ill., Tuesday evening. They are very much in love with California, and no doubt, will be coming back in the near future as many eastern folk do. They motored here last year, but decided to return by rail. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Norris of Orcut, were visiting at the name of Mr. Friday afternoon. A little surprise party was given Mrs. and Mrs. C. H. Keen on West Coast Thursday evening. Cake and ice cream were in order. Many friends and neighbors were present. The Watson's anticipate moving to Orange as soon as Mr. Watson has purchased a home at that place. Several West Coast folk were Anheim visitors Saturday morning; Mr. and Mrs. Tunis, Mr. McGhee, wife and daughter and others. Mrs. Mabez daughter Evelyn and son Charles, of Whittier were visiting her mother Thursday evening on West Coast. Mr. Earl Ronden and family of Salt Lake fields were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Mifley Sunday. Mr. C. H. Keen returned home Thursday after several days visit at Burbank with her daughter, Mrs. M. W. Cobb. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bush, of Goviana and Mrs. L. I. Mitchell, of Los Angeles were visiting on West Coast last Thursday at her sisters, Mrs. R. E. Williams, of Valencia-ave. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stives of the Union lease were Fullerton visitors Friday; Mrs. Stives was inquiring after a dentist which meant misery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Houler and children were Los Angeles visitors last Saturday. D. G. Hunt, wife and baby, of Los Angeles were visitors on West Coast at his brother's home George W.Hunt. The United Missionary society met at the Christian church last Wednesday the first time for the new year. The president, Mrs. J. E. Reynolds conducted the business part of the program. Mrs. Reed led the meeting. Several took part, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Splorer, Mrs. Barquist, Dorothy Schwetzer favored with a piano solo. Vocal duet—Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Douglas. The hidden answers were read by Mrs. Chambers. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. W. E. Fannin on Madrona-ave. The 15th of July the Endeavor Society of the Christian church will give a circus and the Ladies' Aid will serve a chicken dinner and everybody knows what that means when they give a chicken feed. Everybody welcome don't forget the date. Mr. Acklin of the Bren Progress passed out Just Friday morning. Funeral services will be at McCaulley's Interment at Loma Visita Monday at 10 a.m. G. & L. Lease G. & L. LEASE, July 11. (Spl.)—Mr. and Mrs. John Pope entertained Myles Sweeney, of Sawtelle, and brother Frank, of Imperial. Myles is a Civil war veteran and is 75 years old. Neither Mr. or Mrs. Pope knew the Sweeney brothers before their visit here but were not long in getting acquainted when they found out that the Sweeney brothers and the Popes parents in the east were close friends some 40 years ago. After a brief visit here the Sweeney brothers left for their old home in West Virginia, their first visit there in 29 years. While there they will visit Pope's relatives also. Mr. and Mrs. John Bryan, with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Bryan and the former's slater and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Malone have all returned from their visit in San Diego. They left on Thursday, returning home Sunday. They had a very pleasant trip and everyone had a good time. Little Lois Coffey is confined to her home with the measles. Dr. Parrot is the attending physician. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Coffey went fishing at Newport Friday and came back with fish for everybody. They had makeal galore, halibut and smelt. The Richards family have returned from their camping trip at Beaumont Pier. Mr. and Mrs. Sellers and daughter, Mabel were Anaheim shopper Saturday. ASSERTS ATHEISM SWEEPS COUNTRY Rev J. N. Blakeley preached yesterday morning at Placentia on "Are You in the Faith?" He declared that a mild form of atheism had swept over the country intellectually vs spirituality, science against the bible, vainly trying to prove the falsity of the latter. "Science now exaltts itself above all that is called God, sitting in the temple of God and showing himself that he is God," he said. (Spl.)—The Congregational Sunday school will hold a picnic in Section J., Brookside Park, Pasadena, Tuesday, July 12th. All who intend going should be at the church at 8 o'clock. A truck will take persons having no machine. Bring your baskets well-filled and enjoy the day. Mr. and Mrs. Huggenott of Los Angeles visited for a few day with their daughter, Mrs. Teagarden, returning to their home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Haggarty, Mrs. Alice V. Stevenson and Mrs. J. Walter Wilson spent Thursday at Long Beach. Mr. J. Walter Wilson is on a two week's vacation which will be spent in making short trips to places of interest. Mr. and Mrs. Teagarden and children motored to Los Angeles on Friday. Max Teagardent underwent an operation in that city Friday. S. WARSHIPS BACK FROM TAMPICO WASHINGTON, July 11.-The two American warships, the cruiser Cleveland and gunboat Sacramento, have not left Tampa yet, but will do so immediately; it was said today at the navy department. A message from the Cleveland, acknowledging the order to leave Tampa waters was received at the department early today. HOLINESS CLASS WILL BEGIN STUDY The Placentia-Anheim Holiness Bible study class will begin the study of Revelations Tuesday evening at the home of Rev. Jesse N. Blakeley, pastor of the Church of the Lord, 511 N. Olive-st. Regular intercessory prayer meeting will continue on Thursday nights at the residence of F. W. Baker on No. Los Angeles-st., and on Friday night at the residence of Rev. Blakeley on N. Olive-st. Everyone is invited to attend this study of Revelations. It will be shown by comparing it with other prophecies that practically the whole of Revelation has fulfilled down to the time when Christ cried, "Behold I come as a thief."
