MISSIONARY WILL TALK UPON AFRICA BREA June 10. (Spl.)—Mrs. Joye, a returned missionary from Africa, will be at the Bren Christian church Sunday night. All should hear her as they would get some facts direct from that place worth hearing. Everybody welcome, fine music. The Bren Christian church United Missionary society and the Fullerton Christian church society will combine next Tuesday and have an all day meeting at the C. C. Chapman home. The Bren society is putting on a little missionary play for the day. We certainly expect to have a wonderful day. Miss May Sellars gave a miscellaneous shower in honor of Mrs. W. B. Woodruff, formerly Miss Frances Swanop at the home of Mrs. Oscar Lark on S. Walnut-st., last Tuesday evening. She received many useful, as well as beautiful presents. About 18 were present, others were invited, but were unable to be there. Decorations were in pink and white. Refreshments consisted of sandwitches, cake and hot cocoa, while was thoroughly appreciated by all present, were served by her mother, Mrs. W. H. Swanop and Mrs. Oscar Lark. The Union local held an open meeting in Jowell Hall Thursday evening. Mr. Walter Thomas Mills from Berkley was the chief speaker and was highly appreciated by all present, Mr. Mills is from the President School of Social Service at Berkeley. He gave a most-wonderful talk to the Union boys. He wishes to be in Bren once a month if everything works out right and finish jik lectures. He is a very able scholar. A little treat was given by the Women's Labels League and Union men. Ice cream and home made sakes. The all day missionary meeting held at the C. C. Chapman home last Tuesday, was a day not to be forgotten soon. The Fullerton society invited Brea society to join them and lunchde was served under the rose covered pergolas facing the pretty garden of flowers and mountains. The Fullerton ladies furnished everything that makes a fine spread and the Bren ladies furnished cake to Mrs. Chapman's trent of ice cream. The Brea ladies held their business meeting in the parlor while the Fullerton ladies Adams and Ethel Rogers of Alhambra called on Mr. and Mrs. L. J Roberson Wednesday. Evelyn Knight is ill with measles and Ruth Ritter is also added to the list. Mrs. Harild Jaynes of Santa Ann visited with relatives in town Wednesday. Jack Golden is driving a new Ford delivery car. Mr. Walter Willard of Norwalk visited with Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Shaw on Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Warren and daughter, Florence, returned from Strawberry Flats on Tuesday evening. Those taking part were Mesdames Anderson, Merrifield Woodward, Taylor, Bradley, Chambore, Fanning, Fiscan, Taylor, Burquist, Sullivan, Schweitzer, Bates, Henson Ridid, Yates, Wheeler, Harvey, Reynold, Bergman, Spicer, Breese. Other ladies present were Mesdames Weaver, C. Keith, E. Keith, Mother Taylor, Thomas, Holland, McIntyne, Olmstead, Cox, Hyde, Gill, Sexton, Vallandigham, Holden Grant, Douglas Blakemore, Waitman, Teltsworth, terSmith, Kinsley and daughter. Mrs. Lester Douglas sang a beautiful selection. "Thy Will Be Done." Mrs. Chapman is a charming hostess. Mrs. Dan McQuarrie and family wish to thank their many friends for their kindness during their bereavement, and for the beautiful floral pieces given by various friends. Mrs. J. A. Mabee and children of Whittier were on the West Coast visiting last Tuesday. G. & L. Lease Mrs. Frank Dliker accompanied Mrs. Calvin Varner to Los Angeles Wednesday at which time the latter had lower teeth extracted. She has been feeling quite ill but is able to be around again. Mr. and Mrs. Earl of the Calcutta lease, the latter a sister of Mr. Stone, was over and spent the day with the stones. Mr. and Mrs. Loitz motored off the lease Tuesday. Little Lois McElhany has returned from a week's visit with her aunt and uncle in Montebello. Mrs. Turner's mother, Mrs. Cline, of Harbor City, was up and spent the week with her and Mrs. Turner and children, Virginia, Bobble and June, all took her to Long Beach to the home of her brother, A. E. Cline and spent the week end, Saturday, Virginia celebrated her birthday and A. E. Cline and wife their fifth wedding anniversary. Sunday, her father and June both celebrated their birthdays. So that week end was one round of pleasure for the Turner family. Floyd Colley motored up from San Pedro Tuesday evening for a couple of days. Mr. and Mrs. Richards and two children Billie and Francis spent Tues- week with her and Mrs. Turner and children, Virginia, Bobbie and June, all took her to Long Beach to the home of her brother, A. Mr. and Mrs. Earl and son, and Mrs. Irina Stone and daughter Iris, spent Wednesday at Redondo Beach. Milton and Preston Varner took in a bowling match Tuesday night. George and Kenneth Winer was out visiting their sister on this lease Tuesday. Mr. Brawley's young son is riding a new bicycle. Buena Park News BUENA PARK, June 10. (Spl.)—Buena Congregational church for Sunday June 12. Sunday school at 10 a.m. Morning service at 11 a.m. when the pastor will discuss the second and third commandment. Evening service will be held in the school hall. The moving picture machine will be used, showing a prism, "Magic Clay." Friday evening, June 10, the moving picture, "Homespun Folks" will be shown in the school hall at 8 p.m. This is a fine picture of high grade humor and tragedy combined. Admission, duits 20c, children 10. Tuesday, June 14, the new church building will be dedicated. Services will begin at 7:45 p.m. There will be a number of visiting pastors present, Dr. George F. Kenngott of Los Angeles will dedicate the building. Former pastors will be present. Light refreshments will be served and a brief social hour at the close. Mr. and Mrs. R. Z. Twenty-two young boys and girls nearly of the same age. Their class colors, red and white, class flowers, red and white garments, class motto, "We endeavor to seek and to find but not to yield." Dr. Lindley of Fullerton made a very interesting talk to the class of '21 Mrs. Copper, the principal, made some very fine remarks, saying that she had had some of the pupils in her room for the last three years and told how she loved them and felt like she owned some of them. The teachers will leave today for their various homes. Faculty: Mrs. Frank A. Cooper, Lillian Stahlke, Nora Casey, Mrs. E. Johannessen, Olga Bryant, Dorothy Taylor, Kathleen Carroll, Mrs. A. V. Dass, Prof. A. Dobblin, Mr. and Mrs. M. Chambers have been entertaining Mr. John Bryan of Texas, Mr. Chambers' nephew, whom he had not seen for 20 years or more towns in Orange-co., and elsewhere, saying this was certainly a most beautiful country. He will return in October and will take in Catalina and other places of interest. Mrs. Floyd Tunnis and babies of Los Angeles are spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Tunnis at West Const. Mr. and Mrs. Warner of Placentaia attended the Olinda graduating exercises at Olinda Hall last Friday night. Mrs. Allen of Santa Ana is visiting Mrs. Sleber at W. C. B. H. She attended the exercises last evening at Olinda hall. Mrs. M. A. Pendleton and others from Paradeum were present at Olinda hall last Friday night to witness the graduating exercise, her grandson, Gerald Ross was one to carry off high honor, he being only 11 years old. Little progress was made at the Whitley Oil Co. during the past week: At No. 5 the 8 inch is being pulled, the intention being to go back with this string and go deeper, the hole now being at 2325. No. 6 still stands cemented: No. 7 is rigged up but drilling has not started. Drilling on Murphy-Coyote No. 78 is at 3800. No. 84 shows 3000 feet. No. 85 is at 3075 and No. 86 is at 2700.
