FORD IS PRODUCING 4000 CARS PER DAY
DETROIT, June 2.—Ford is building cars at full speed. And, according to an official statement from the factory at Detroit, the demand for Ford cars and trucks still proceeds the output, despite the fact that a new high level of production has been reached.
By the first of May, the figures representing daily production were in the neighborhood of 4000 a day, so the May schedule was set at 101-125 cars and trucks, not including the output of the Ford Canadian plant or that of the foreign assembling plants. The output mounted daily; May 12th brought forth 4092, the greatest number that have been produced in one day so far this year. Since the month has 25 working days present indications point to a new high record.
A comparison of Ford production figures for 1920 and 1921 disclosed the fact that for April, 1921, the output was greater by 34,514 than for the corresponding month of a year ago. The output for May 1921 will probably overshadow May, 1920, by between 15,000 and 20,000 cars and trucks.
Approximately 43,000 men are at work in the Detroit plant of the Ford Motor Co. The factory is operating on full time, six days a week and three shifts a day.
"We were never in better position than we are right now," said Henry Ford recently.
THOUSANDS VISIT LONG BEACH WELL
Long Beach
Several thousand people have visited the Shell Co. Signal Hill well since the reported snowing of oil was made four weeks ago. It is the consensus of opinion that the Shell well is an oil well. After drilling out the cement at 2724, a water test was secured without delay, and now the well is drilling in the oil sand at 2860. The sand is so lively that the well has to be kept full of water to prevent blowing out. It is the intention now to drill thru the oil sand unless the well should blow out and come in of its advantageously located and should make a good well if anything like production is obtained by the Shell Co.
The San Berg Petroleum Co. is getting its No. 1 rigged up and will be ready to start drilling at an early date. Sanberg succeeded in getting property adjoining the Shell Co.
Information as to what the Standard Oil Co. will find when the cement is drilled out at Bluff No. 1 well is now standing cemented at 2400.
SAYS IT'S NOT THERE NOW
The Union Oil Co.'s wild cat well at San Juan Capistrano is now close to 4300 feet. The formation is a nice brown shale but still shows no indications of oil. At the time the well was located one of the leading California geologists stated that the oil was there at one time in the earth's history, but it was not there now.
Signing up Mrs. Sillman in motion pictures would not be a move toward the moral betterment of the screen, by any means.
