Society: Clubs: Lodges: Churches MRS. JOHNSON HOSTESS The Fidelis Bible class of the White Temple held one of their all day social meetings at the home of Mrs. Sylvia Johnson on S. Los Angeles at Tuesday. About 40 were present and the day was largely spent in tying comforts and making numerous garments. At noon a "pot luck" lunchson was served. Drilling on the Long Beach Consolidated is now at 2700, the formation is sandy shale and it is carrying some very nice showings of gas and oil. Drilling operations under the direction of William Wigle are speeding up on the Wirschler and Gray well at Newport Bay. This week's report gives the depth at 1500 and drilling in stick blue shale. During the past week almost 300 feet of hole was made, bringing the depth down to 1785 feet. The formation is now running in the conglomerate. The Columbia Oil Co.'s Adobe No. 5 is nearing the production point. Tr 2275 the well was cemented in the 10 inch, and drilling the plug out the well will be ready to go into the producing sands. Adobe No. 4 is in the hard sand at 3145, and Scott-Arnold No. 1 is about ready to begin drilling. Failure to get the La Merced's Manley No. 1 to produce in commercial quantity resulted in the redrilling of the well. The original depth was 2702, sand filled up to 2400, and redrilling is now at 2500. Calkins No. 1 failed to get a shut off on the water and is standing idle. The McGinley Oil Co.'s redrilled and cleaned out No. 1 and made a 200 at 2275, showing considerable oil and gas. Some of the hard drilling of the Montebello field has been designated to the Potter Oil Co.'s No. 1 now in the hard sand at 3065. A fish tail bit drills only a foot of hole and has to be changed. It might be a good idea to put in a Reed Roller bit and No. 5 get thru it.
