Here's what the U.S. Geological Survey says about the quality of California Paraffin-Base Oil:
"Although the productive area in this new field (Ventura County) will not likely be very large, the high quality Paraffin-Base Oil obtained makes this field a valuable addition to the California Resources."
The field referred to is the one that produces the crude oil from which the Ventura Refining Company manufactures "Ventura" Paraffin-Base Motor Oil.
Because Paraffin-Base Motor Oil first came from the East, many motorists have fallen into the habit of asking for "Eastern" instead of "Paraffin-Base" Oil.
Since many "Eastern" oils are not Paraffin Base, it's safer for you to ask for "Paraffin Base" rather than "East-

YOUR MONEY GOES MUCH FURTHER NOW
The public is very much interested in what the retailer has done toward reducing the cost of living. Much propaganda has been spread over So. Calif. to the effect that the manufacturer and wholesaler have reduced their prices but that the retailer is inclined to maintain the high prices as long as possible. In defense of its business policy, the H. G. Chaffee Co., chain cash grocers, have compiled two lists of staple food products; one showing the amount of merchandise that could be purchased for $40.50 on May 21, 1920, the other list showing what may be purchased at Chaffee's this year for $40.50.
The Chaffee Co. is featuring this particular comparison in its advertising for the week ending Saturday, May 21:
What You Could Buy on May 21, 1920, for $40.50
100 lbs. sugar ... $24.25
100 lbs. Burbank potatoes ... $7.25

FIRE RAGES ON STEAMER
NEW YORK, May 20—Fire raged today aboard the 10,500-ton passenger ship Panhandle State, constructed at the cost of $5,000,000 for the United States shipping board. She lies beach-ed on Ellis Island.
The fire was placed under control without loss of life. Federal agents are already at work probing the cause of the fire which did enormous damage to the great river.
The Panhandle State caught fire just after a strike-breaking crew of 400 had boarded her following descent or her regular complement to join the maritime walkout.
The ship was built last year and caught fire from a leaking fuel oil tank and was towed from her North River pier and beached off Ellis Island to prevent total destruction. She continued to burn until early today. Damage was heavy.
