Tuesday, May 17, 1921. LA HABRA WOMEN'S CLUB IS HOSTESS LA HABRA, May 17.—The Women's Improvement club held open house to more than 100 guests from outside clubs Thursday. Social hall was made beautiful with yellow flowers, crepe paper and forms. In the receiving line were Meadames Walker, York, Proud, Crummine and Hale. Two items of interest at the regular meeting occurred. These were the amending of the by-laws to provide two meetings a month, and the other reading of club history. This bit of interesting club literature has been kept since the inception of the club nearly 20 years ago and is a valuable bit of California's history. The program committee presented a very fine program under the direction of Mrs. W. H. Rhodes and Mrs. M. F. Davis. A community song opened the program followed by a reading in dialect by Mrs. Frederick Fromme of Los Angeles. Mrs. Florence Ruodes Wilson gave a delightful vocal solo. Miss Drutilie Mackey told of one day's work at the Mexican camp in Americanization. A vocal solo by Mrs. Norba of Eagle Rock, a character read-in by Mrs. Fromme and Mrs. Abrogast concluded the program. Delicious refreshments were then served by the hostesses, Mrs. Ada Varnay, F. E. Proud, M. F. Davis, M. Bloomer, Barneschmidt, Wester, Franta Lalla Quester, Redfern and Caldwell and Williams. Delegates from East Whittler, Brea Torbia Linda, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Newport, and the Woman's club of Fullerton were present. Mrs. Lea Hart who has been visit, ing at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Rhodes, for a few days left Thursday for San Diego. Mrs. Bert York of Whittler was a visitor at the home of her husband's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. York, on Thursday. Mrs. C. H. Tower, entertained her mother, Mrs Anderson, of Los Angeles and her sister Mrs. Yorks, and a friend, Mrs. Abrogast of Eagle Rock at the recolprocity day affair, Thursday. Milton and Preston Varner were among the bowlers Friday night. The young top of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pope has not been feeling very well the past week. Preston and Milton Varner and Mrs. Calvin Varner were guests in Redondo Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. John Pope and children were shopper in Anaheim Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Harley Cooper attended a theatre Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Johnson were shopping in Fullerton and Anaheim Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Sellers and daughter Mabel with the latter's sister and husband spent Sunday pleasing at Long Beach. Mr. Stones' father motored with his son Ira Saturday, hunting acres. Mr. and Mrs.' Morris Lortz, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pope, Mr. and Mrs. Grainger all spent Sunday off the lease. Mr. Breed and daughter Elise, Mr. Jim Stratter and Kenneth Winer all of Brea were out and spent Saturday evening with the latter's sister Mrs. McElhany. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Pope and Miss Mona Clegg were seen on the streets of Anaheim Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. McElhany, Kenneth Winer, Elise Breed and Mrs. J. C. Reese all spent Sunday evening at Balboa. CYPRESS CLUB TO MEET AT L. B. THURS. Albert Hunter, who was recently married in Los Angeles to a Santa Ana girl is back working again. They are at home to their many friends in Santa Ana. Cal. has for the past few weeks been locating veins of the "black gold" in this locality. He says that the oil here runs strong and from the north-west to southeast in direction. Great enthusiasm has been stirring the people of this part of the county more and more as a well has been started about a mile or two south of Buena Park. The material is on the ground ready for building and it is hoped in the near future the country here will be populated with derricks in search for the "black gold" as it is in the Huntington Beach field. Mr. P. J. Felberg is erecting a garage large enough to accommodate four cars in his ranch "Or Nolla" on W. Orangethorpe-ave.
