W.E. STRADLEY-BLDG. WILL SOON BE DONE ACENTIA, May 14.—(Spl.)—W. E. Stradley's newb uilding on Santa Fe is being finished as fast as is possible. It is a two-story brick building with a fancy yellow and white glazed brick front. The lower floor will be occupied by A. E. Rogers of Fullerton who will open a furniture store here about next Saturday. As soon as the rest of the building is finished it will be rented. The second floor is to be apartments. Mrs. James Tuffree entertained the Placeia Country club in her beautiful home on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. P. D. Miller was winner of the beautiful form which was first prize and another beautiful plant went to Mrs. T. L. McFadden as consolation. A most delicatable luncheon was served to the sixteen ladies present by the hostess. W. E. Stradley has bought the lots on Santa Fe ave., now occupied by the shoe shop and the plumbing shop. These two small frame buildings will be torn down and a modern two-story building will soon be erected in their stead. Of course, when Mr. Stradley plans tearing down their shops, Mr. Schallee, the plumber and Mr. McFadden, the shoemaker, have to look about for new locations, but everything seems to work out alright in the end. The lot west of Perry & Sons Garage on Santa Fe ave., owned by O. Howard Lucy has been bought by I. O. Fletcher. Mr. Fletcher will build a fine, large building on this site as soon as possible and Mr. Schallee will occupy part of it. J. B. Dickhout is driving a Maxwell touring car, recently acquired. The Christensen elm along with a large number of their friends held a most delightful basket picnic at the old Reeve ranch at La Mirada. This ranch was bought from J. Reeve some time ago by Ole Christensen and since then has been occupied by his brother, Bloc Christensen. Those participating in this delightful occasion were Mrs. Seru Christensen and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bloc Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Anderson and daughter, Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Tige Andersen, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Andersen, Mr. and Mrs. Wri Voreale and son Richard. be served at noon with plenty of ice cream provided for by the ladies of the P-T.A. Races, baseball matches, hiking, boating and tennis will be the main events planned for. The members of the Katella Girls Glee club with the Boy Scouts accompanied by several of the parents and Miss Jaques and Miss Knapp are planning on a hiking party up to Mt. Wilson for Saturday. The hike which has been a much talked of and planned for affair will be one of the closing social affairs of the school year in the nature of a get-together farewell party for the members of the Glee club who are to graduate June 3rd. Practice matches for the finals of the tennis tournament to be played the first week of June are arousing a great deal of interest at Katella. The tennis court is constantly in use, some of the young enthusiasts coming early and staying late for extra practice. A short while also all the men of the community that were able to leave their ranch work showed up at the school house early one morning. Before noon a large number had put in an appearance. The occasion of the gathering was the placing and setting up of the playground apparatus and the preparing of the tennis court and baseball diamonds for the spring athletics. In a very short time the swings were put up, a form for a large sand box and several benches were made and work was begun on levelling the tennis court, with the school children willingly lending a hand. All the school children wish to heartily thank the men who so generously gave their time, and assistance in helping to make the school grounds a real playground. Mr. James Perris was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Golden on Wednesday evening and Thursday. Dr. Frank Ashmore has purchased a home in Santa Ana and expects to leave here on June 1st for his new location. Richard Nelson was a Los Anvisitor on Thursday. A number of Buena Park people attended the May dance festival at the Fullerton high school on Friday afternoon. Katella News KATELLA, May 14.—Last Monday morning the little folks of the primary room at Katella held their last march around the tiny baby shoe into which for the past few weeks, the children have beed dropping their carefully gathered penniles for the starving children of China and Poland. Little Winona Benso, a first grade pupil led the march with the greatest number of pennles collected during the previous weeks. Each day the number of pennies has been increasing until the final amount of twelve dollars was reached. Tuesday the money collected by the children was sent by their teacher, Miss Knapp to Miss Hazel Hemus of Santa Ana, the Junior Red Cross director to be divided equally between the suffering children of Poland and China. A considerable sum was also raised at the school recently by the sale of three cent Chinese famine stamps under the direction of Lola Hunt and Anna Lampman, two seventh grade pupils. The school and community picnic Katella district will be held Friday, May 30 at Orange-co. park. All the patrons and friends of Katella school are urged to attend us this is an annual event enjoyed by old and young when the busy mothers and fathers forake their work to spend an enjoyable outing with the children at the park. All the plans for the picnic arrangements have been completed. Automobiles providing transportation for all those wishing to go will leave the school promptly at nine o'clock Friday morning. Mrs. Hargraves Mrs. E. R. Walker and Mrs. E. T. Walker spent the day shopping. Only one of the three men is on trial, the man conceded as being the head of the affair, having made his escape. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Conley and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Taylor enjoyed a motor trip to Corona Thursday evening. A large number from here are planning to attend the Farm Centre picnic at Orange-co park today (Saturday). The "Jazz Funt" will give a dance in Ley hall tonight (Saturday). At the meeting this week of the N. L. Womans' club is was decided that the last meeting of the year, which falls a week from next Tuesday, would be celebrated with gentlemen's night, at which each member is to bring an escort. It is thought advisable that no children be brought as there will be a dinner served and covers will be paid for only the members and their escorts.
