MID. PET. TO DRILL NEAR BUENA PARK BUENA PARK, May 9.—The Midway Petroleum has changed their location from the Centralia school to the A. L. Bennett ranch in Buena Park. This well will be watched with great interest by all Buena Park people. Miss Irma Robinson was the guest of Mrs. Andrew Rodobaugh at Anaheim on Friday. Mr. Carl Shaddock of Scott and Prampton's store is quite ill at his home near Slanton. Mr. W. H. Parcel and his father Dr. Parcel of Calexico were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Childers on Thursday evening. Mrs. Ethel Conway visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Breckenridge of San Pedro on Thursday evening. Mr. W. K. Fogg has the plans drawn for the new acre tracts and the same have been recorded. These acre tracts are now ready for sale. Mr. Albert Hasson spent the week, end with his brother in law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Lepper at Whittier. The play given by the Wright company at the school hall on Friday evening was well put on and enjoyed by all. The first was a short play, "The Oil Queen's Daughter" and was very good. The next was a play entitled "In the Shadow of the Cross." During the intermission the Camp Fire girls sold home-made candy. Mrs. C. W. Glivin was an Anaheim visitor on Thursday. Mr. Frank Mahone is enjoying a visit from his father whose home is in Honolulu. Mr. Mahone Sr., expects to visit here for several months. La Habra Items LA HABRA, May 9.—The Parent-Teachers' association held their annual location at the school house Wednesday. The officers that will conduct the affairs of the organization for the coming year are: President, Mrs. William Snow; vice-president, Mrs. Alta Garcia. The state will buy any home up to $5000 or farm up to $7500 an ex-service men may designate provided no price asked fr the property is reasonable. "This plan," said Assemblyman Hart, "will become available, first for disabled veterans, and after the disabled men are cared for the funds will become available for call by other ex-service men." "The legislature passed no motor vehicle laws," continued the assemblyman. "Two measures were proposed for changing motor vehicle regulations. One of them, the Lee bill, proposed a load limit of 28,000 pounds and took the regulation of trucking out of the hands of the boards of supervisors. Chairman T. B. Talbert of Orange county was one of the supervisors from various parts of the state who went to Sacramento to fight this bill which was killed in the senate. The second proposal was that known as the Morris bill which among its provisions, offered to raise the license tax on each automobile $2. This bill failed in the assembly. There was a measure, however, that passed both houses under which authority is given to collect two percent of the gross receipts of concerns using the highways for commercial business. This measure went through in response to a general feeling that there should be some return to the state for the use of the highways for carrier service." The Orange-co. bills having to do with Newport harbor passed both houses. The bill under which it was proposed to give county mutual telephone systems the right to operate failed to pass the legislature. Hart said that the prospects for a fair redistricting of the state are none too good. Combinations of legislators from the northern part of the state seem to have been made with a view of blocking reapportionment that would cause them to lose representation. A special session to consider reapportionment is to be held. The officers that will conduct the affairs of the organization for the coming year are: President, Mrs. William Snow; vice-president, Mrs. Alta Canfield; secretary, Miss Mable Moody; treasurer, A. H. Miller; historian, Mrs. Eva Akers. Professor Morley of Fullerton gave a very interesting address on "The Ungraded School." There will be only one more meeting for this term which will be held on the first Wednesday in June. Gus Johnson will have to provide the banquet for Mr. George Young and his working force, also for the new members secured in the contest for membership just closed by the teams of the C. of C. This will take place next Monday night and only enrolled members are eligible. Fifty-six new member have been secured in this contest. Yesterday's Results COAST LEAGUE W. L. Pet. A special session to consider reapportionment is to be held. NEW ACTIVITY IN WHITTIER DISTRICT Whittier Field Considerable progress and new activity characterized the week's development in the old Whittier field. The Sou. Calif. Oil Co. deserves particular mention in that it is making new life by drilling the cement out of No. 5 and putting in pipe to go ahead with drilling. No. 6 has been cemented at 2214, and No. 7, a new well, has started drilling. The Shell Company's Hart No. 1 is at 3925, drilling in hard sand, and not showing any oil. This well is passing into the doubtful class. The Bardeen Oil Co. is now feeling confident of success. Drilling at 2170 the well is in sandy brown shale and is looking good. The Standard is making splendid progress drilling on the Bastanchury ranch. No. 1 is now 2400 feet, 700 feet having been made during the past week. On the old Emery property the Standard has three wells drilling. No. 31 is at 4020, No. 37 at 4006, and No. 3 stands cemented at 3200. On the Murphy No. 78 is showing oil and gas at 3775. No. 84 is drilling at 2675, and No. 85 is at 2955. No. 86 is a new well recently staked. If it's from Witman's it's good! Prices of Lots On or before May 15, the BolSA CHICA SYNDICI will advance no HOME AID BILL BIG ACHIEVEMENT With the passage of the Hart home aid bill standing out as one of the foremost achievements of the state legislature of 1921, Assemblyman William O. Hart of Orange, has reached home from Sacramento. Of twelve bills introduced into the legislature by Hart eleven passed both houses and all either have been signed by the governor or are up to the governor for signature. The Hart home aid bill provides a method by which the state will help ex-service men secure homes. An appropriation of $2,000,000, the largest made by the legislature, is carried in this measure, and under the general plan a $10,000,000 bond issue is to be voted upon at the next general election. A revolving fund is established. Money from this fund is used to purchased homes for ex-service men under a forty-year payment plan. RODMAN STATEMENT CREATES INTEREST Declarations by Admiral Rodman in Los Angeles that the navy on the Pacific coast would be greatly augmented in the near future, that harbor facilities on the coast were inadequate and that the So. Calif. coast between San Pedro and San Diego offered the best navy practice grounds on the Pacific coast, are being commented on by residents of Orange-co. In the light of the possibilities of development of Newport bay to make it available as a base port for a division of the Pacific fleet. The admiral declared that all the ports of the Pacific coast must undergo enormous expansion to meet the needs of the enlarged navy and ocean traffic that is certain to be developed for the Pacific. "The statement of Admiral Rodman should be a tip to Orange-co. residents to get active in anticipation of the larger naval program and make a bid for a base at Orange-co. harbor," declared D. Eyman Huff, president of the Orange County Harbor association. "We can do this by a concerted development program and concerted efforts at Washington, with a view to making the harbor the base for the destroyer or chaser class of ships. The assertion of the admiral that the ideal practice grounds are located between San Diego and San Pedro, together with the knowledge that much of the Pacific fleet's practice work has been done just off the Orange-co. const should awaken the live wires of Orange-co. to the full force of the opportunity that lies at our door. "In my opinion Orange-co. harbor would be central for much of the activity of the Pacific fleet and there is no reason why a supply base there would not be of advantage to the fleet." When the county work at the harbor is completed there will be sufficient water in the channel to admit vessels, of the type suggested, at any hour of the day or night. With a supply base established there, government would take further interest in GAS RANGE ROW TO BE AIRED IN COURT Trial of the suit brought by the Dean Hardware Co. of Fullerton against the Fullerton high school district to collect $300 alleged due on two gas ranges asserted to have been purchased by the school district and of the counter suit brought by the school district against the hardware company for $6900 damages, alleged to have resulted from the destruction of a cateria building in which the gas ranges were installed was "alred" in superior court.
