AMAL. RIGGING UP ON BAYHA NO. 1
Placentia, Richfield
The Amalgamated Oil Co. started rigging up and will be drilling on Bayha No. 1 a new well before the end of the week. Breen No. 2 is proving one of the field's hard wells to drill, the conglomerate still continuing from the top to 600 feet. Page No. 2 is in blue shale at 2375. Potter No. 2 now standing cemented at 3200 will be the Amalgamated next Richfield producer.
The Clark Oil Co. was successful in getting Wetzel No. 1 cleaned out to 3607 feet and at that depth set a string of eight-inch pipe. This feat means a lot to the successful completion of the well. Drilling will proceed in a couple of weeks. The work is being done under the supervision of Superintendent McGee of the United Oil Co.
The Dependable Oil Trust, a new concern in the Richfield district spudded in and started drilling. The well located west of the Petroleum Midway's Richfield-Yorba starts on cable tools, a new departure for the field. Should sand hold up the work the rotary will be substituted.
The Fullerton Oil Co.'s Anaheim Union drilling at 4475 still continues in sticky brown shale, and aside from a few colors the well is not looking as good as was expected at this depth. Fortunately the hole is in good condition and drilling is going right ahead. Something good is expected at 4500, and unless something shows up good soon the expectations will not be met.
At 4525 the General Petroleum's Group 2-1 is drilling in hard sand and is looking considerable better. Hope of getting something good are low being entertained. Stern No. 4 is now a producer. This new well was brot in at 3411 and looks like a 250-barrel well. Davis No. 1 also went on a production test and is showing a capacity of about 200 barrels. Hugo No. 2 is drilling at 1750 and No. 3 is rigging up for rotary. At McKracken No. 2 a gas pocket was struck at 3260 and the well has been blowing gas under high pressure for several days. The gas is absolutely dry, Osman No. 1 is testing water at 3100. Jones No. 1 a new well started drilling. Brown No. 1 shows 2100 feet in the conglomerate.
Pipe trouble with the four-inch string necessitated the cutting out of the pipe and a partial redrilling and deepening of Harrington-Dumas No. 1. It will only be a matter of a few days when the well will be back making its 400 barrels daily.

THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM
Immediately on drilling out the cement at the Placentia-Pacific's well heaving sand came up into the pipe and filled the hole several hundred feet. Until this condition is relieved it will not be possible to get a test on the water job. However, the well appears to be dry and no difficulty is expected as far as getting the water shut off.
Deep drilling is being resorted to by most of the big companies in the Richfield district. The Petroleum Development Co. has two wells at 4100 feet. Bradford No. 1 is in the oil sand at 4110, and No. 3 same property in hard sand at 4120. B-4 is at 2655, conglomerate, and No. 5 Bradford stands, cemented at 3911. Bradford Community still stands cemented at 4342. Drilling on Richfield No. 2 is at 2675 in hard sand.
One of the largest transfers of property took place a few days ago when the property of the Richfield-Consolidated passed into the hands of the Petroleum Midway. The deal is considered a very advantageous one for both parties concerned. The Petroleum Midway is one of the heavy developing concerns in the Richfield district and has properties all around the Consolidated. Under the direction of T. J. Crumpton the Petroleum Midway has made a wonderful showing in the field and the Richfield Consolidated are to be congratulated in being taken over by a company in a position to develop its property to the best advantage. Inside of six months the Petroleum Midway will have the Consolidated's property producing a couple of thousand barrels a day. It is understood that the P. M. is to drill eight wells on the property, four at no charge to the Consolidated in which the production is to be apportioned 50-50. The remaining four wells are to be drilled on a 50-50 basis all the way thru. The Petroleum Midway takes charge at once and will begin the cleaning out and redrilling of Consolidated No. 1 and the fixing up of No. 2.
The Petroleum Midway is rushing work on the Krug property at top speed. This week's report shows No. 1 standing cemented at 2760, No. 2 drilling at 2300, No. 3 drilling at 1-100, No. 4 drilling at 600, and No. 5 building rig, and a location staked for No. 6. Richfield-Yorba No. 1 is now at 3300 in brown shale. Steiner No. 1 on a pumping test made 60 barrels.
Richfield Giant No. 1 is showing just enough encouragement to make the drilling interesting. At $450 the hard sand is showing considerable gas and some very substantial colors are showing occasionally.
At 3000 feet the Ridge Oil Co.'s No. 1 continues to increase its showing of oil. The brown sandy shale is carrying a lot of gas in addition.
Selby-Root-Hogue Oil Co. is washing out and making preparations to bring in Claxon-Wardman No. 1 at 3275. The well has been showing up quite strong and has all the indications of making a 350 or 400-barrel well on production. New work on the property is going ahead. The rig is up for No. 2 and No. 3 has been located.
The Standard Oil Co. still maintains the lead taken several months ago in the deep drilling work. Its latest achievement is in the getting of Lottus-O'Bryan No. 1 to 4875, and Vejar No. 1 to 4800 feet. L & O. No. 1 at the above depth is in hard sand and not showing very strong indications of oil. Vejar No. 1 another test well at 4800 is in hard sand also and is not showing much encouragement. On the Kraemer No. 2 property No. 16 is building rig. No. 15 is drilling at 1300 in hard sand, and No. 14 is 2100 in shale. No. 12 stands cemented at 3640.
The Union Oil Co. of Calif, has completed and is about ready to put Chapman No. 2 on the pump. Fishing jobs, mechanical trouble and hard digging prolonged the drilling of this well into two years. Soon after Chapman No. 1 the gusher well that opened the field was completed, the Union spudded in and started drilling Chapman No. 2. An experiment was made with extra heavy standard tools, the idea that the big tools would pulverize the consolident and hole would be made rapidly. Several months were lost and little progress was made. Putting the rotary back, the well was drilled to 4100 feet, and is now ready to produce. On account of the small amount of real oil sand found Chapman No. 2 is not expected to be a very big well, probably will not go over 200 barrels. Chapman No. 2 came in a few days ago a 125-barrel well. Thompson-Godwin No. 2 is in oil sand at 3290. Towell No. 4 is drilling at 2850.
