OIL MASS MEET AT GROVE BIG SUCCESS GARDEN GROVE, May 2—The mass meeting called by the Andrew Petroleum corporation on last Tuesday evening in Price's hall was a big success. There were about 140 persons present when the meeting was called to order at 8 o'clock. Mr. W. Andrews, corporation attorney of Los Angeles, and president of the Andrews Petroleum Corp., was the first speaker. His remarks were clear and he was full of enthusiasm on the possibilities of oil in Garden Grove. He also spoke in a clear, brief manner of the splendid record the company he represents and of its future development. N. H. Barger followed Mr. Andrews and spoke for nearly an hour on the volume of oil securities and of the possibilities of the stock in the Andrews Petroleum Corp., paying much returns on one share of stock as 5% invested in other securities. Others on the program were Martin Brown, one of the corporation directors, and Porter Kelley, secretary. Short talks were also made by Mr. Crutchfield and Mr. Kenworthy of this place. The company already has several large stockholders in this community and seem to be enthusiastic and progressive and expect to begin work on their leases in this section soon. From the remarks heard at the close of the meeting the idea of Garden Grove being an oil center is getting a hold on the minds of the people. The Choral society of the Methodist church enjoyed a banquet Wednesday evening, about 20 members and guests being present. Buena Park News BUENA PARK, May 2—(Special)—Did you go one the trip around the world Friday evening? It was a rare treat and was surely enjoyed by all. There were 30 machine loads that left the church at 6:30, 7:00 and 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Herbert Bixby, representing Mexico, was the first country visited. The tables were decorated with red amarillis and pretty Mexican girls served tamale pie, Spanish beans, tortillas and coffee. The next country was Ireland at the home of Mrs. H. Haggarty. Upon entering the screen you were presented with a shamrock and invited to kiss the Hilary stone which was very amusing in some cases. The ladies looked very pretty in their white dresses with green sash and caps. The menu here was potato salad and wafers. Now we started on our way to Chinn and climbed a narrow pair of stairs to the Chinese den which was Calloway's barn in disguise. Three ladies dressed in oriental costume served you with rice and tea and we sat on the floor and ate with chop sticks. I am afraid that most rice found its way to the floor for no one seemed to be able to handle the chop sticks. Fred Bastaday's home represented America where Uncle Sam and Miss Columbia ruled in state. The house was decorated with flags and red carnations and delicious apple pie was served. Last but not least was Iceland in the church parlor where sheerbet and wafers were served. The parlors were decorated with pine boughs and snow and made a very pleasing appearance. The trip was now over but altho we had all eaten our fill we wished there were more countries to visit. Mrs. Lois Costis is spending the week at La Jolla. Miss Margaret Nelson was a Fullerton visitor Friday. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Shepard and son Arthur of Compton were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Berkey Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. John Rodefer of the Murphy Lease were in town Friday evening and went on the trip around the world. Mr. and Mrs. R. C.
