CYPRESS CENTER TALKS DRAINAGE CYPRESS, April 20.—(Spl.) — The Cypress Farm Center hold its last meeting at Centralia hall. There was a good turnout despite the cold, windy evening. Drainage was the principal topic of discussion. Engineer Hildyard told of his observations in Utah where the formation is very similar to a part of the local district, the difficulties coming from running or quick sand under the surface. Mr. Hildyard stated that after much time and expense the engineers in charge of the work in Utah had overcome all problems and were able to drain successfully formation with underlying quick sand, but new and different machinery was employed from any the local engineers were using. Consulting Engineer Laucks of the local district told of the progress made. The plans are all finished and estimates completed. Under the present law, the original three mains are all that can be put in. The other ditches must be brot in under a new petition or if a law now pending is passed may be brot in under the new law. The estimated cost is $220,000 or about $18 per acre. The right of way across the Sugar Co.'s land will necessitate 6000 feet of double 20-inch tile which is the greatest expense of the outlet. From the Sugar Co.'s land to the bay will be thru an open ditch which will be an enlargement of the present Bixby drain ditch. The estimates and plans will be presented to the supervisors May 10. There are expected protests. Some have never wanted the district and some believe the law under which the district is organized is not just what is wanted. The meeting, thru a motion, unanimously approved of Mr. Loucks' work so far. A rising vote of thanks was tendered Mr. Hildyard for his information and suggestions. A committee was appointed to look into the ways and means of obtaining a lighting system for the Cypress school house. Refreshments of sandwiches, cup cakes, doughnuts and chocolate were served. Mrs. H. Cutter was a business visit, or in Los Angeles Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. B. Miller saw the Los Angeles Angels beat the Vernon Tigers Saturday. Mr. W. A. Sirran was enjoying Sun-day's paper when the Gol Dorned gas meter blew up. The Gas Co. was 18 months placing the meter and connecting the gas. Now, how long will it take them to fix one that is all blown to smithereens. A. S. Feagan, on the B. C. Sconce place, is still gasless. In the rush of connecting the Cypress consumers up the company overlooked Mr. Feagan. The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Wicker is quite ill with pneumonia. It is that the little one is past the critical staggle. J. Faguay has just completed a four inch well for S. S. Duntley and is ready to run the casing in a six-inch well for C. Harding. There is still considerable excitement over the land purchase of Jim Jeffries. The land is not considered very valuable for agricultural purposes, so the general belief is that it is an oil gamble. MAKES FAST TIME IN SKIDDING RIG Montebello The Arcadia Oil Co. made some fast in skidding the rig to a new location and is now spudging in and drilling on the new hole. Skidding the rig and rigging up again was accomplished in better than two weeks. The knowledge of the first well drilled to 2700 will greatly assist in the drilling of the second well. The Columbia Oil Producing Co. has two wells drilling at Montebello, Scott-Arnold No. 1 is rigged up waiting on electrical service. On the Adobe property No. 4 is putting in a string of eight-inch and will go ahead with cable tools. Adobe No. 5, at 2650 is drilling in hard sand. Sand creeping into the La Merced Oil Co.'s Manly No. 1 is preventing this well from becoming a commercial producer. As rapidly as the tubing is installed the sand fills it up and shuts out the oil. Calkins No. 1 is to be cemented and deepened from 2745. Trouble in getting lost casing out of the hole at the Keeler Oil Co.'s No. BARN DANCE BY MRS. CO. BUENA PARK, Apr Mrs. B. A. Calloway was a barn dance Saturday guests were all attire aprons and overalls given in honor of Mrs. Calloway's niece Burgess, Mr. Williams Be Calloway. After the guests Mrs. Calloway poetry which told them were celebrating thrill On the same night But not the same year They were Donna and Ben Then they will celebrate day Many's the winters a tween them The Now, if you will listen toll You will know each quite well The first and fairest is a blushing malden But her age—It would not do to say The other two stand Which is the older To add the three up One twenty-five is we The younger one of Take two times Mac ten To one-half the age man Add Donna Mae's and This will give you three During the evening served delicious refresh bread sandwiches, birtf fee and lemonade. The guests included Will Duncan, Miss gess, Mr. Ray Carr and lowoy of Los Angeles Fullerton; Mrs. Bonhom Bonham and Landon press, Stinley and E Delia Foote, Margar trude Nelson, Ruth have never wanted the district and some believe the law under which the district is organized is not just what is wanted. The meeting, thru a motion, unanimously approved of Mr. Loucks' work so far. A rising vote of thanks was tendered to Mr. Hillday for his information and suggestions. A committee was appointed to look into the ways and means of obtaining a lighting system for the Cypress school house. Refreshments of sandwiches, cup cakes, doughnuts and chocolate were served. The next meeting will be held in the Cypress school house the second Thursday in May. The Pig club will close Saturday, May 14, when the pigs will be on exhibition at the Orange-co farm center picnic at Orange-co park. Prizes will be awarded at that time. The girls and boys have worked hard and the competition is keen. The judges will have a job on their hands to pick the winner. Mr. E. O. Pike has returned from a lengthy visit in the east. Mrs. Pike had intended staying longer but ice and snow kept reminding her of her little home in sunny Calif., so the visit was cut short. Mr. and Mrs. O. P. Bunyard, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Gillison and Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Bunyard attended a real old time dance at Talbert Saturday evening. There was "balance all," "sawing the corper then your tan," and waltzes and two steps but no shimmying. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Chase spent Saturday and Sunday with friends in Ontario. ARNI NELSON, do hereby certify that I am transacting the business of buying, selling and dealing in lumber, hardware and building materials, at both wholesale and retail, at the Town of Buena Park, Orange County, State of California, under the fictitious name and style of "Buena Park Lumber Co."; that I am the sole two wells drilling at Montebello Scott-Arnold No. 1 is holding the drilling at 3010 feet. Walters No. 2 is standing cemented at 2440, 12-inch being set at the depth. One of the biggest wells brot in in the old Montebello field for some time was Just brot in by the Petroleum Midway Oil Co. The well is Baldwin No. 10 finished at 3525, and went on production at 400 barrels. Baldwin No. 7 drilled to 3027 feet will probably be abandoned on account of mechanical trouble. Drilling or redrilling rather has been commenced on Germain L-B at 3700 feet. Prugh No. 9 shows, 2000 feet of hole in the shale. P & B. No. 2 is drilling at 3020 in gray shale. The Standard is about ready to start drilling on Temple No. 14, a new well. Drilling on Temple No. 12 continues in the oil sand at 3225. On the Baldwin No. 55 is drilling in the oil sand at 3400, cable tools. Water continues to be an ever present menace with the St Helen's Nutt No. 1 Drilled to 4007 in search of deep oil sands the well has been cemented three times without success. Monterey No. 5 set 10-inch at 2960 and is standing. Eggleston No. 1 is drilling with rotary at 2500. The 3050 the Western Pacific Oil Co.'s No. 1 is deepening and the showing of more oil at 3000 disappeared at 3050, shale an dshell being the formation combination. The Union Oil Co. is the heavy developer in the Montebello field. With three wells in the oil sand, two drilling and two new ones starting the Union is making considerable progress. INDICATIONS GOOD AT SANTA FE SPGS. Santa Fe Springs With 64 feet of good oil sand in the Wilshire Oil Co.'s No. 1 indications for a bigwell are good. A string of four-inch casing is now being put and will be cemented. This string it is expected will complete the shutting off of water and after that the well will be ready to go on production. The Union Oil Co. has two wells drilling on the Meyer lease. Meyer No. 4 os at 3850 in blue sandy shale and not showing anything yet. Try Plain Dealer Want Ads. COLLOWAY BUENA PARK, April 20.—(Special) Mrs. B. A. Calloway entertained with a barn dance Saturday evening. The guests were all attired in bungalow aprons and overalls. The dance was given in honor of the birthdays of Mrs. Calloway's niece, Miss Donna Burgess, Mr. William Duncan and Mr. Be Calloway. After the arrival of the guests Mrs. Calloway read a piece of poetry which told the guests that they were celebrating three birthdays. On the same night in April But not the same year. Three babies were crying And that's why we're here. They were Donna and Willie and Bennie then But now they are just plain Don, Will and Ben. Altho they will celebrate on the same day. Many's the winters and summers between them they say. Now, if you will listen to the story I tell, You will know each of their ages quite well. The first and fairest of the day Is a blushing maiden, Donna Mae, But her age—sh— It would not do to say. The other two stand out to view Which is the older, I leave to you. To add the three up in a row One twenty-five is what they go. The younger one of these two men Take two times Mae's and then add ten To one-half the age of the younger man. Add Donna Mae's and five ten. This will give you the age of all three. During the evening the hostess served delicious refreshments of nut bread sandwiches, birthday cakes, coffee and lemonade. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. Will Duncan, Miss Dona Mae Burgess, Mr. Ray Carr and Mr. Arvol Callowoy of Los Angeles; Mr. Ellis of Fullerton; Mrs. Bonham, Mr. Leiland Bonham and Landon Bonham of Cyprus, Stanley and Elizabeth Berkey, Delta Foote, Margaret Nelson, Gertrude Nelson, Ruth Meyer, Thomas Mr. and Mrs. Charles Te Winkle of Costa Mesa and Mrs. Frank Bell of Redlands were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Golen Sunday. During the afternoon Goldens motored to Huntington Beach and were driving along the boulevard when a guahcer came in and their car was very liberally sprinkled with oil. Mr. and Mrs. Leiland Bonham are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Callowoy. Mr. and Mrs. Bonham have rented the house no the McDowell ench and will move in this week. The Woman's club will meet at the home of Mrs. George McNeill Thursday afternoon. COALINGA-MOHAWK NEAR 4000-FT. MARK Newport Field Coalinga-Monawk No. 1 now drilled to close to 4000 feet continues to hold the interest of those connected with the Newport field. This well has shown up so strongly that a test will be made at once. The light oil that has made its appearance leads one to predict a good well. The Interstate Oil Co. has drilled Mesa No. 1 to 3250 where a string of perforated pipe was put in. It is the intention now to cement thru the perforations and catch the bottom water that has prevented the Interstate's first Newport venture from becoming an oil well. The H. T. & K. Syndicate is making great effort to locate and shut off water in its No. 1 well drilled to 2367 feet. With the water shut off on this well an important and very progressive move will have been made. Drilling on the Long Beach Consolidated's No. 1 is going nicely, the depth now being 2375, the formation shale and hard sand. Wirscher and Gray, a new concern that just recently entered the Newport field is now drilling. Wiggle and McBride are the contractors. STANDARD 2800 AT HAWTHORNE The Standard Oil Co.'s Land Owners No. 1 is now drilling at 2800 feet. The shale and sand do not show any oil indications to note.
