AMALGAMATED FALLS BELOW EXPECTATION HUNTINGTON BEACH ACTIVITY The Amalgamated Huntington No. 2-A came in about 500 barrels. The week has not held up to anything like this and now preparations are being made to swab the well. In order to do this properly the rig is being closed in boarded up solid. Huntington 1 A is at 1800 feet. Fowler No. is drilling at 3050, and lumber is on the ground for No. 3 Huntington. The Bolsa Chica Oil Company spudded in and started drilling the first of the week. Backed by Irving Augur, formerly of the California State Mining Bureau, this well will be watched with a great deal of interest. The Bench Oil Company is the new concern of the week to make its appearance at Huntington Beach. The new company has acquired property north of the Vista Del Mar No. 2 and has the lumber on the ground. The Hurst well started off making all water when it went on production the middle of last week. In a week's time this well has cleared up from being all water to about 50-50 water and oil. The opinion is held by some that this water will disappear in time. However, it looks as though the well will have to be re-cemented before it is entirely satisfactory. The oil produced is about 18 gravity. Owing to the high pressure the Huntington Central No. 1 is showing after being cemented two weeks ago, no chances are being taken with the well and it is not to be opened up until the required high pressure fittings can be secured. No. 2 is still standing cemented. The Moor Special now drilling at 2985 is backaging along a bit and is waiting on the findings of the Potroleum Midway on the Columbia prospect just across the road. The Miller Keek Oil Company is boiling out mud and water at No. 2 and will know in a few days the water condition. Work on No. 1 is to be resumed soon. The State Consolidated's No. 1 came in Sunday and flowed along nicely for a few hours and then quit. The rods and tubing are now being put in and ARCADIA FINISHES RIG MOVING WORK Montebello Field The Arcadia Oil Co. has completed the work of moving its rig to a new location and is about ready to start drilling on the new location. Sand coming into the well in great quantities has prevented the La Merced Oil Co.'s Manly No. 1 from making a satisfactory showing on production just recently the well filled up 150 feet with sand. Until all the sand can be cleaned out no regular production is expected. Work on the local Calkina be expected. Work on the local Calkina and shuttling off of water on always ago. No. 1 was resumed a few days ago. No. 1 was resumed a few days ago. The Keeler Oil Co. is being Walters No. 1 and is now tainted with the cement set-in-inch casing at No. 2 is standing 2440 feet at 1650 inches. The Petroleum Midway is moving the rig at Baldwin No. 7 and will start drilling a new hole in a short time. No. 7 Baldwin was lost at 3025 on account of very complicated mechanical troubles. Drilling on Baldwin No. 9 has passed 3100 and is in sandy shale. No. 19 shows 2500 feet of hole and No. 11 about 2300. Work has been resumed on German I.B and will be carried to completion. P. & B. The Laguna Beach Oil Association's well is now drilling at 1500 feet at which depth some good showings are claimed in the shale. and Flags Transform Show Into Motor Wonderland P. T. A. Told Need of Playgrounds And Apparatus Here Continued from Page 1 are no trees, a short rail fence six feet high with rails clear to the ground so children from kindergarten up may use horizontal ladders slides, etc. Miss Von Hagen said that Anaheim schools have not near the playground space they should have, from 10 to 15 or so acres of playground. There should be tennis courts, basketball courts and baseball diamonds for each school. The aims of physical education are threefold: 1—To teach activities to be played outside of school. And to give the childer opportunity for playing them on the playground after school. 2—To have handicaps to growth removed. One shoulder becomes lower than the other from habitually carrying books on the same arm. Children should be taught to change books from one arm to the other. Many children are under nourished and need a mid-morning glass of milk and a hot lunch at noon. Many children leave home in the morning with no breakfast at all. Children should be taught to sleep in a straightened out position rather than all curled up. 3—The third aim is to teach good citizenship through the games, especially in the gang instinct period. Games teach them to be good losers, generous winners, leadership, and to obey the laws of the game joyfully. The boys and girls who have formed these mental habits in childhood are going to carry them onto mental activities of business life. They are going to be brave losers, generous winners, possess the ability of leadership in affairs of the town and willingly obey its laws. Childhood is the time of up energy and strength and durence for future years. Play and hard work are the avenues for both boys and girls. It is cheaper in the end to pay for volley balls, bats and boxing gloves than it is to pay doctor's bills. Each town should have an employed supervisor or organizer of children's play. Playgrounds should be kept open the year around. Surveys show that at the end of vacation children are worse off The Nu Santa Oil Company and the Wiescher & Gray Oil Company are to spend in and start drilling at Newport this week. Westminster District Drilling is going nicely on the Westminster Oil Company's No. 1 at 1290 feet. It is understood that the gas blow out rumored last week was not a fact. Grove Petroleum The Garden Grove up in the town Company has grown Grove and an open site of farrecee is scheduled for Saturday, the sixteenth. Long Beach Activity The K J Miley well is having a little trouble getting under way on account of sand running in About 250 feet of hole has been made. The Shell Company is making the best progress on Signal Hill, a late report gives the depth of the well at 1600 and the drilling done nicely. The Standard Oil Company's Bixby test well is now close to 2800 feet and is making hole as rapidly as careful and exploring work will permit in the new territory. The well has not shown anything promising yet. Hawthorne-Inglewood-Redondo Casson Oil Company has a rig completed and standing. Commonwealth Petroleum Company is battling with water at Rosecrans. No. 1 well will re-cement at about 2800 feet. Kitselman No. 1, Merton, is drilling out the cement for a test at 1900. No. 2, Rohon, stands cemented at 1050. No. 3, Hicks is making hole at 2000 feet. Milwaukee Fountain Trust, Lawndale, No. 1 stands cemented at 1050. Lausanger, No. 1, stands cemented at 1200. Lausanger, No. 2, is to be re-cemented at 1025. Huntington-Hawthorne No. 1 is drilling with a water well outfit at 500. Union Oil Company Somers, No. 1, is drilling at 1750, shale, and boulder. Petroleum Development Company met with casing trouble at can feet. The Sturgeen cemented at 1100, and the Sandowners, No. 1, is making hole at 2300 feet. Union Oil at Canistrano San Juan Capistrano well, O'Neal No. 1 is now making hole at the feet, the formation is a brown shale that looks good enough to carry oil but it does not. Going below the 4000 mark and not striking anything, the outlook for the well is not considered very promising. However, the Union will continue the drilling and make a deep test well before abandoning. The Union believes in staying with a well until thoroly tested out. MAHALA DRILLING IN SANDY SHALE Chino-Corona Field The Mahala Oil Co.'s now drilling in a sandy shale that is showing oil and gas in rather encouraging quantities at 2000 feet. A showing was reported first at town. Drilling has not been resumed on the China-Ondarlo well. It is understood that operations will commence soon as additional capital has been secured for the well. No further work has been done on the Pomona Oil Co.'s well since the cement was drilled out and a water test made at 2725 feet. The Pasadena-Puente reported a showing of oil at 175 feet, the showing was light and the drilling is going on. The Shell Co.'s Hart No. 1, a wild eat well drilling in Turbulb Canyon, is now at 2500, and the formation is hard sand, is not showing any oil. This well has been drilling for about a year.
