HOSTESS AT CHARMING PARTY
Miss Frances Schumacher was hostess last evening at a very charming party given at her home on N. Clandiina St., when she announced her engagement and approaching marriage to Fred Scott. The home was prettily decorated for the festive occasion with jugs of white roses, pink carrations and fern. In the living room where the guests were received, a pink and white color scheme was used. Pink and white crepe paper streamers were festooned from the chandelier to the corners of the room, and over the archway leading into the dining room was a large lovers' knot of the crepe paper.
In the dining room the same color scheme was used. In the center of the table were two kewpies, dressed as bride and groom. The chandelier was festooned with pink and white crepe paper, and suspended from the center was a white wedding bell.
The early part of the evening was spent playing hearts, with the prize for high score going to Miss Esther Pember, and the consolation to Mrs. E. Voss Herrington.
While the game was in progress the bell rang, and when the front door was opened, little Billy Kirby, small nephew of the groom-elect, came into the room. He represented the postman, with his pack of mail, and to each guest he presented a small letter, which, when opened, was found to contain the pleasant information, "Frances and Fred, June 5th." The bride-elect was showered with congratulations, and the groom-elect was also induced to come into the room and receive his share of best wishes.
He hostess, then displayed to the admiration of the guests the many very beautiful things in the "Hope Chest." This was followed by two beautiful vocal dues by Mrs. W. J. Lewellen and Mrs Ida Devinney.
Late in the evening the guests were invited into the dining room, where dainty refreshments of ice cream in brick, with a pink heart molded in the center, small cakes ice in pink and white were served buffet style. The favors were hand painted cards bearing the name of the guest, and in one corner was a small kewpie fastened onto the card, and dressed as a bride and wearing the wedding veil.
The invited guests included Messam W. J. Lewellyn, Ida Devinney, Welcome M. Ward, Arthur A. Kemper, E. Voss Herrington, H. K Boyd, Stafford Sims, R. E. Campbell, J. Lloyd Moore, Fred Lautenbach, Viola Kirby, Norbert Anderson, G. J. Mauerhan, F. S. Gates; Misses Carrie Lou Evans,

WOMEN MAKE WAR ON MACHINE POLITICS
CLEVELAND, Ohio, April 12.
Woman, the newly enfranchised, is going to drive machine politicians and ward heckers out of the American political system.
This was the keynote of the annual report of Mrs. Maud Wood Park, chairman, delivered before the second annual convention of the National League of Women, Voters, in session here.
The committee on uniform laws is to present the following recommendations: An equal interest of husband and wife in each other's real estate; removal of all common law disabilities of married women; wife and child abandonment should be made a criminal offense; common law marriages should be abolished.
The state should require health certificates before issuing marriage licenses.
There should be uniform state legislation on marriage and divorce and statutes prohibiting the evasion of marriage laws.
