The Foreign Missionary society of the M.E. church held their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Frank Mills Wednesday afternoon with a good attendance. PROGRAM AT CYPRESS SUCCESS CYPRESS, April 4.(Special)—The program and social given at the Cypress grammar school Friday evening was a big success. There were over 100 present, and $36 was cleared which will be used for playground equipment. There was some fine local talent on the program, and Miss Ithea Poster of Artesia also gave some fine piano selections. Miss Dorothy Winter, nine years old, a second Margaret McKee, gave some fine whistling solos. Little Claire Barnett convinced everyone after giving his mock Brutus speech, that he would some day make a fine orator. One of the students, Harold Nolan, reproduced a very long story, which he had never heard before, almost word for word, and everyone considered it remarkable. Edna Rennie, Marjorle Cutter and Wanda Badla did fine with these recitations. Earl Barnett came out to give a cornet solo, but began to eat pop corn instead and held up a sign which said "April Fool." Beatrice Grindlay played on the piano, and there were many other good numbers on the program. Mr. Cathbert Miller concluded the program with an interesting speech. After supper there was a great deal of fun made by those who took an airplane ride to the crazy house. Miss Leona Luther told fortunes over in one corner of the room. Name: Street: City: State: YORBA News YORBA, April 4. — (SpL)—Holy Week in Yorba was celebrated with a greater solemnity than ever before in local history. Odd, as it may now seem to those that are unacquainted with the history of Yorba, it was here where the church first flourished, and not at Anaheim, Santa Ana, or Fullerton of more recent date and whose churches — Roman Catholic — were built in the order named after the one here in Yorba had been long in existence. The ceremonies, as usual, began on Palm Sunday, with the blessing of the palms and boughs from olive trees, and a procession, in memory of the triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem, formed and marched around the church, the doors of which are closed until the celebrant knocks with the foot the cross carried by an aculete; then the doors are thrown open and all march in the priest takes his place at the altar and mass begins. There are appropriate services for each day and are very solemn and interesting, notably those of Holy Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and finally Easter Sunday, so much celebrated in all other Christian churches. A special choir had been formed for the occasion and under the direction of Mrs. A. D. Velasco, organist and directress, assidiously practiced masses of the highest classical music and the difficult Gregorian chant so much used in the offices of Holy Week. Rev. Fr. Guadalupe del Río of the Order of Franciscan Mendicants, who had come from the San Luis Rey Mission for the purpose, was the celebrant, or priest officiating. The choir members and voices are as follows: Misses Alvina and Lillian Davignon, lyric soprano; Mrs. Amelia D. Velasco, dramatic soprano; Miss Blanche Boissoranc, contralto; Mr. Vincent Velasco, baritone profundo; Mr. Joe Sanchez, baritono leggiero, and Messrs. Willie Sanche and Louis elasco, tenor lirico. The Misses Hattie and Mattie Walker, of Los Angeles, also assisted on Palm Sunday, the one with her mellow contralto and the other with her beautiful coloration tones. Many people from surrounding towns and ranches took occasion to visit here during the YORBA Linda News YORBA LINDA, April 1. — (SpL)—Mr. R. A.
