CANYON DEEP WELL NOT LOOKING GOOD The Brea Canyon Oil Co.'s deep test well now drilling at 3975 is in a sandy shale showing a little gas, but no oil. The outlook for the deep well is not promising, and it may be that an attempt will be made to come back up to 3800 or thereabouts and try for production. The Brea Canyon's No. 33 is at 2375 in brown shale, and No. 34 a new well is rigged up and ready to start drilling. According to the present indications found in the Columbia Oil Co.'s Menchego No. 1 this well will have to go deep to get production in quantity. At 3225 the present depth the formation is showing a fine sand that carries some oil, but not enough to insure much of a well. Menchego No. 2 is now at 3200 in sandy shale and is showing some oil. A fishing job has halted the drilling record being made on the Fullerton Oil Co.'s No. 6. Pipe trouble caused the lost of 300 feet of hole. Drilling by is now at 2925, the bottom of the hole being 3200. No. 14 is going nicely at 1450, and No. 15 is in the hard sand drilling at 3225. At Brea Canyon on the Tonner property the General Petroleum's next producer will be No. 6, now drilling at 3425 and showing up strong. Redrilling on No. 5 has reached 3424 and Nos. 11, 12 and 13 are standing cemented at 1200 each. The richest oil sand ever found in any well in this or any other field, in So. Calif., has been unearthed in the Union Oil Co.'s Stearns No. 57. The rich sand began showing at 1.-20 feet and at the present depth of 1525 this same sand still continues. The finding of such a rich oil sand at the shallow depth mentioned probably means that the new Union will be a record breaker when it comes in. The Union is rushing other new work as rapidly as possible. Grades are being made for five wells a new rig is up for No. 75 and 58. The Union's No. 58 the last big well to be brought in in the Brea Canyon district is holding steadily at 1400 shake. The cementing job at 1392 failed and a second attempt will be tried deeper. The Petroleum Development Co.'s deep test well No. 88 drilling in the old Olinda fields now at 4000 feet. The formation is a hard sand and the best that the well is showing is a little gas. Drilling on the West Coast Oil Co.'s property at Olinda is moving steadily forward. No. 49 looks like the next producer, now drilling at 2825, it is in the oil sand and showing very good. Nos. 83 and 87 are new wells ready to spud in. No. 88 is still held up with a fishing job. The Standard Oil Co. has started work on the big Bastanchury ranch at Fullerton. The location for well No. 1 has been made and the rig is now going up. It will be remembered that this property was partially developed by the Union Oil Co., several years ago, but failed to get much of a production. The Union has abandoned the property and the Standard will now try a hand at developing oil if it there. O'FARREL WITH BEBE AS SHE WAS HALTED Traffic Officer Vernon ("Shorty") Meyers, chief witness in the trial of Bebe Daniels, well known film star whom a jury found guilty of speeding and who was sentenced to ten days in the county jail by Justice of the Peace Cox, today stated that one point in connection with her arrest and conviction on the charge of speeding had been overlooked. That, he said, was the fact that at the time of her arrest there was a young man friend in her car as well Miss Daniels mother, Mrs. Phyllis Daniels. According to Meyers this man was Martie O'Farrell, well-known lightweight boxer of Los Angeles. It was also learned from a reliable source that the Marmor car that the motion picture actress was driving belonged to O'Farrell and not to Miss Daniels.
