Mrs. A. S. Bradford and daughter, Katnerine, spent a day in Los Angeles last week.
The Better Mothers' club held a St. Patrick's party Thursday afternoon, March 17, at the home of Mrs. Riddlebarger. The business meeting was dispensed with and the fun began with a contest of guessing advertisements. Mrs. J. E. Scott was the winning contestant and was awarded a pretty cut glass basket vase in recognition of her skill. The booby went to Mrs. Mulch. Two humorous readings were given by Mrs. Harold Bender. Then the game of "Grunt, Piggy, Grunt," being very appropriate to the day, was played by all. This was done by running to a goal, squealing and running back to the starting point and squealing again. This game added much to the merriment andilarity of the afternoon, as each squealer was trying hard for a prize. Mr. Roy Fordham arrived as this was finished and sang two delightful songs and an encore. He was accompanied by Mrs. J. E. Scott. Delicious refreshments, all carrying out the Irish colors, green and white, were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Riddlebarger and Mrs. Bender. Following this an announcement was made that the program committee could not decide upon the best squealer and had decided to give each one a reward of merit. Then favors of little green baskets filled with green candies were passed around. The rooms were tastefully decorated with shamrock leaves and green paper festoons.
Mrs. Robert Keee entertained with a 500 party last Monday afternoon at her home on Placentia-ave. Following the games a dainty and elaborate luncheon was served by a lovely Irish maid to the guests present.
The Social Circle was entertained at the home of Mrs. Wm. Krick Friday afternoon, assisted by Mrs. Wm. Vogole.
Mrs. Delmar Solesbee was an Anaheim visitor Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Mary Hatch is spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Lewis Edwardson, after a protracted visit to San Diego and vicinity.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lemke entertained the "500" club at their home on Bradford-ave. Saturday evening. It was "husbands' night" and they were out in full force. The prizes were as follows: Miss Annie Johnson, ladies' first; Mrs Lee Meyers, ladies' second; and Mrs Russell Bean, ladies' consolation. california. They were part of a train of emigrants who made the journey with ox carts. After nine months of hardships and travel they landed at San Diego, from where they came to Anaheim and have lived in Orange-co about 50 years.
Mrs. Wright, or Grandma Wright, as she was known, was converted in middle life and soon after was sancified and was identified with the Free Methodist church and after ward as occasion seemed to demand, with the Salvation Army, and then with the Church of the Nazareth these all being one in essential doctrine, the last of which she was a member when she died.
Her friendship was warm and true; her motto being truth and right.
Her love was tender kind and constant.
Many are the wayfarers, even who will recognize these traits as personal to Grandma Wright.
In her religious life her love for Jesus, and lost, suffering and needy souls never waned. In her passion, in her life, in her sphere and in the hearts of those who knew her, she was a second Mother Booth, and like her, the tears of a host of friends will dampen the shroud.
It was the blessed and sacred privilege of the writer to be her pastor for the past两 years, tho in fact I have been her parishioner, and as a church we will miss her greatly. She always willing with her presence, prayers and finance We shall not be so sad lonely for we know that we shall be reunited over there.
Her last testimony at the church was from John 14: "Let not your hearts be troubled, ye believed in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, you may be also." Then she said: "I may never get back to the little church again, but if I don't, I want you all to be true."
During her six months of suffering she would say: "I must be patient a little longer, for when Father gets my mansion finished He will take me home."
The last song that we sang at her
