Saturday, March 19, 1921 PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR MRS. KESTER CYPRESS, March 19—Special. A pleasant surprise was tendered Mrs. John Kester at her home in Cypress on Thursday evening, the occasion being her birthday anniversary. Thirty friends and neighbors gathered together and vied with each other to make this a most agreeable occasion. Games were played during the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Fuquay gave everyone a pretty rough aeroplane ride, which is a sure cure for indigestion, a malady which is pretty sure to result from so many night feeds, as Cypress folks have indulged in lately. Mrs. Spraker surely bit easy when it came to having her fortune told. Mr. Kester enjoys his jar of strawberry jam. Mrs. Kester was presented with a beautiful cut glass bowl. Refreshments were served, consisting oof coffee, sandwiches, ice cream and cakes. The latter were prettily decorated with the symbols of St. Patrick's day. Everyone enjoyed a pleasant evening and the party broke up about one o'clock. Wm. Beasley has lensed the Dugan place and the adjoining 20 acres and is going right ahead with his dairy, which is well under way. Mrs. Mary Sutherland's daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charlotte Hellman, is spending some time with Mrs. Hughes while Mrs. Sutherland is in Sacramento attending the R. N. of A. convention. Mr. and Mrs. Spraker are expecting to make their future home in Huntington Park. They recently sold their home here. Mr. and Mrs. Renule, of Cypress, are thinking of putting in another 1000 egg incubator, having had so many demands for baby chicks. Mrs. George Fels has been made Orange-co secretary of the Wyandotte club of California and has an article on "Wyandottes as I Find Them," in the copy of the year book, which is just out. The P.-T. A. of the Cypress grammar school held its regular monthly meeting at the school building on Friday afternoon. Plans were made for the purchase of a new equipment for the school yard. The Community club met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Walker, near Centralia school. The day were carried out in the decorations of the luncheon. These who were present included Mesdames Jones, Chandler, Rennie Hammond, Laue Miss Couts, Kester, Spraker, Shine Lough, Trefern, Eddy, Miss Trigg Tadlock, Abplanalp, Cutter, Shearer, John Fels, Dugan, Mrs. and Miss Wheelock and Mrs. Campbell were guests of the club causing the after-night. The Community club met on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Walker, near Centralla school. The first part of the session was devoted to a business meeting and the question of parliamentary ruling was discussed. A constitution and by-laws was drawn up and presented to the club. Also motion pictures, the plays and films, were discussed. The business meeting was followed by the social hour, during which a dainty luncheon was served. The Camp Fire Girls hold a St. Patrick's party at the school ball on Thursday evening. A very pleasing program was given which was much enjoyed. Sarah Muerhead sang and gave several readings; Miss Florence Schoer field favored with a solo and Miss Bill Sharp with a piano selection. A little playlet "The Man Who Talked Too Much" was fine, with Bertie Jobison as the husband, Buelah Nelson as the wife and Florence Schofield as the chum, who talked too much. Dorla Williams was the maid and Bill Sharp the waitress. Refreshments of cake and punch were served and pop corn and candy were sold. The proceeds will be used for Camp Fire work. Miss Mary Golden of Redlands is visiting with her son Mr. Jack Golden. Mrs. E. A. Smothers was a Los Angeles visitor on Thursday. Mr. Muerhead visited in Los Angeles on Thursday. The Jolly Neighbors met on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Wm. Longboro. The afternoon was pleasantly spent in sewing and conversation. It a late hour dainty refreshments of home-made cakes and tea were served. The Jolly Neighbors will meet in THE Franklin is a good car to own—merely some of the time, but all of the time.
