City Briefs Mrs. Fred Minyard is visiting friends in Colton. Mrs. Martha Stedman has returned to her home in Hector, S. D., after spending the winter here. Mr. and Mrs. F. N. Hineman and Beulah and Howard, will enjoy an outing Sunday to Marietta and Elsinore. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. M. Heina will spend tomorrow in Los Angeles, where they will look after business matters. C. C. Phillips, head of the local office of the Auto Club of So, Calif., went to Los Angeles today on business. M. F. Andrade, John Blecker and Frank Morales made a hurried trip to San Fernando Tuesday on business. Las Cordes was the guest of Los Angeles friends on Thursday evening, party spent the evening in Long Beach. Mrs. M. A. Cohen and daughter, of Hollywood, were guests today in the home of their son, Arthur Cohen, and wife, on E. Center-st. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar J. Hartung spent Wednesday in Venice and on Thursday had the pleasure of spending the day in Newport. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Holland and children will spend Sunday in Long Beach, where they will be guests in the home of Mr. Holland's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Holland. Mrs. C. R. Ficken will arrive tomorrow from her home in Ventura and will visit for the coming week in the home of her sister, Mrs. Dean W. Hasson, 322 Melrose-st. Dr. J. F. Pember, wife and daughter, of Janeville, Wis., Dr. Nusum and son, of Santa Barbara, and Mr. and Mrs. George Sibley, of Los Angeles, were dinner guests on Wednesday in the It. A. B. Andrade is up from Redondo Beach visiting his father. He states that the climate of Redondo agrees with him and that he has practically recovered his health. Fred Minyard of the Fire department, made a trip to San Bernardino Wednesday. He stated that the heat along the way is so excessive that he experienced three flat tires. The A. C. Holmes family, enlist of the city, had the pleasure last week of entertaining Mr. Holmes' sister, Mrs. Nell Hart of Mounds, Okla., Mrs. Emma Smith, of San Bernardino, and Mrs. Bryon Rownd, of Long Beach. The cooked food sale given by the P.-T. A. will be held at Schneider's Market, 121 W. Center-st, tomorrow afternoon, beginning at 1 o'clock. The proceeds will go towards purchasing playground equipment for the schools. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heyling, Mrs. Fred Heyling and Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn enjoyed a pleasant drive this afternoon to Brookhurst, where they were guests of old time friends who were former Missouri residents. Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn are residents of Reineland, Mo., and have been spending the winter here. Mrs. C. W. Hedges, Mrs. E. W. Hedges and daughter, Ernestine, and Mrs. E. S. Fletcher attended the Nebraska state picnic Thursday at Sycamort grove, Loos Angeles. They report a fine crowd, a splendid day and delightful visits with many old time friends. Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Heyling will spend Sunday in Montebello, where they will be guests in the home of Mrs. Heyling's brother, A. L. Segelhorst, and family. They will have the pleasure of attending birthday festivities for little Elaine Segelhorst, who observes her fourth birthday anniversary on that day. The Book Lovers' club held a business meeting yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. H. Swan, whom plans for the coming year's program were discussed. There were ten ladies present, and a very delightful informal afternoon was spent. He is to leave New York April 7 for France. The better part of 100 days will be put in by Hell in travel in France, in Switzerland, in which country his mother was born, England and Scotland. President Mac O. Robbins and Secretary J. C. Hayden were elected the club's representatives at the sixth annual conference of the 26th Rotary district at Long Beach March 31 and April 1 and 2. R. commission to transfer to Motor Transit Co. the permit under which he has been operating an auto passenger service between Los Angeles and Santa Ana via Long Beach. A summer camp on Catalina Island were arranged at Pasadena Wednesday when George S. Chessum, Orange-co Y. M. C. A.secretary, conferred with R. W. Payne, boys' work secretary of the Pasadena Y. M. C. A., teoptative arrangements for the use of the camp were made. Pasadena will be first to use the camp. Orange-co will come next. The dates on which the local association will go to Catalina have not been definitely set but are expected to be about the second week in July or June 28 or 29. Information in this regard will be given out as soon as the matter is settled, Chessum stated today. The Orange-co Y. M. C. A owns the equipment at Camp Wilkie and the Pasadena association owns the ground and tents. Arrangements are to be made with associations throughout So. Calif., for the use of the camp so that it will not be idle at any time during the summer months. ABOUT 25 MEMBERS PRESENT AT CENTER YORBA LINDA, March 18.(Spl) The Yorba Linda Farm Center met Tuesday evening at the G. W. Corbit home There were about 25 members present. After the usual business had been disposed of, Professor Horne introduced Prof. Jacobsen state commissioner of horticulture who gave a most interesting talk on rodent control. Then Farm Advisor Waliberg gave a talk on bridge grafting as applied to cases of gopher girdling and gummosis. The meeting closed with the serving of light refreshments.
