EXCELLENT EBELL MEETING
Members of the Ebell club enjoyed an excellent meeting and program yesterday afternoon when they met in the club rooms of the Masonic Temple at two-twenty o'clock for their regular monthly meeting.
The guests of the afternoon were graciously met by the day's hostesses, the Messdames Seymour, Nagle, Riley, Waite and Jones. The club rooms had been pretty decorated in peach blossoms and every one was in the mood to enjoy the program of the afternoon which was one of rare excellence.
The program was in charge of Mrs. Kathryn Dyer of Long Beach. Mrs. Dyer is a writer of lyric and verse and at present is winning much deserved success as a song writer. Mrs. Dyer was one of the founders of the Ebell club, the first president of the Anaheim Ebell club, and comes to the club annually to entertain them in this pleasing manner.
She is a member of the Southern California Woman's Press club and has an extensive range of subjects to write on and a wide range of beautiful poems to choose from when she appears in readings.
One of her numbers which gave particular pleasure to her hearers yesterday was, "When the Sunflower Makes Love to the Rose," a poem as dainty and pretty as the title suggests. Another poem which was also especially pleasing was one pertaining to her early childhood home in Nevada. Mrs. Dyer had the pleasure of re-visiting a number of scenes of her youth last summer and the poem which she read yesterday was the result of these visits.
Another feature of yesterday's meeting was the lovely singing by Mrs. Trotter of Seattle, Wash., who in the house guest of her slater, Mrs. Holland, and who favored the company with two selections, "Twaa April," and "One Fleeting Hour." She was accompanied by Miss Dorothy Garrison.
At the close of the program a social hour was enjoyed during which the hostesses served punch and wafers.
Mrs. Dyer very charmingly pre-en her check for her entertainment she graciously returned it to the club to be used to erect its new home.
There were several visitors present during the afternoon, among them being Mrs. Clark and Mrs. Wells of Santa Ana, the former being president of the Ebell club at Santa Ana.
PLEASANT SURPRISE
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Thornberry and Mr. Thomas Stephenson were victims of a pleasant surprise Monday evening when a number of friends arrived at the Arthur Stephenson home, 600 N. Olive-st, and shared the pleasures of the dinner hour with them. The three honorees have been spending some time in and around Anaheim and will leave Thursday morning for their homes in Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Thornberry are the parents of Mrs. Arthur Stephenson and Mr. Thos. Stephenson is Mr. Arthur Stephenson's father.
The self-invited guests had brot with them some bulging baskets and were liberal with the contents, to such an extent that the tables were soon grooming under the good things to eat.
Following the dinner a pleasant social evening was spent. The three guests of honor were loaded with good wishes of the company, wishes for a safe journey and the hope that the memory of their happy days in sunny California be very pleasant ones.
Those who were present to enjoy the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Thornberry, Mr. Thomas Stephenson, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Snyder, Mrs. Mott, Mr. A. Lammert, Mr. and Mrs. B. Haws, James Haws, Mr. and Mrs. Hazlett, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Schlotter, and Thelma Iola and Roy Stephenson and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Stephenson.

MISS HOCHULI HONORED
Miss Stella A. Schwentker has received a very interesting letter from her former pupil, Miss Edna L. Hochull, a student at the Sherwood Music School in Chicago, telling of her appearance in a large recital program at the school. This is her second program since she entered school in September, and from her modest comments upon her work, Miss Schwentker can tell that it was a marked success. She received so much praise from the large number of teachers and critics present and especial congratulations and praise from the president of the school who also told her she is a very talented young lady. Miss Schwentker knew Miss Edna could do wonderful things and this is proof of what she is capable of doing and will continue to do in the future. Her numbers on the program were selections by Bach and Liszt and were given with a clear technique and musical feeling.
Another item worthy of mention is the honor of having been offered a position as a teacher at the school in Chicago after her graduation in June. She will not accept this tho., as she expects to take up active teaching in the Anaheim Branch of the school.

ONE O'CLOCK LUNCHEON
Mrs. S. C. Hartranft, N. East-st,
was hostess today at a one o'clock luncheon. The affair was in the nature of a courtesy for her house guest, Mrs. Harriet Lager, of Aberdeen, S. D., who has been spending the winter months in Pasadena.
An abundance of sweet peas was used in the decorations for the rooms of the Hartranft home, pink being the predominating color. This color scheme was also used as much as possible in the menu. A fine course menu was served.
The pleasing part of the affair was the fact that the guests were all old time friends from Aberdeen and the conversation and entertainment consisted largely in the recalling of old times.
The guests were Mrs. Lager, Mrs.
C. F. Euston of San Diego, Mrs. J. L.
Browne of Venice, Mrs. Z. Spitler of San Bernardino, Mrs. M. E. Carnine of Fresno, Mrs. F. C. Benjamin and her house guest, Mrs. Burnham, of Frederick,S.D., Mrs. H. H. Benjamin and Mrs. Charles Eygabroad.

The result of the determination is The National American Ballet, Inc., Social Register, with Mrs. John W. Alexander, wife of the noted artist, as prime mover. The professional at the head of the organization is appropriately Mme. Dealree Lubovska. I say "appropriately," because that isn't her name at all. Her regular name is a good plain American one and she admits it, but explains that managers insist she become a Russian before they would do anything at all about her dancing. Aside from training American girls, the society hopes to train the managers to recognize them.
The particular achievement of "Blue Eyes," the new musical show at the Casino theatre, is that it has brought Lew iFelds back to his public. The musical comedy is good and the costumes and the music are good. But just good. Nothing remarkable. But Lew iFelds is decidedly himself again and is almost funnier than ever back in the days when the words "Weber & Fields" stood by themselves in the world of comedy.
One automobile salesman waxed so enthusiastic over his car the other day that he persuaded the reluctant wife of his prospect to agree to his sending it around the next day for a demonstration. "It will be there at 10 o'clock in the morning," he said, "and you just let the driver take you wherever you want to go." The woman was ready and waiting when it drove up the next day, and carried a fair-

boxes of lemons and then threw them on the ground because we could not sell them.
"Naturally the farmers are depressed, are hard up and are not buying. As the agricultural population makes up 65 per cent of our total, the condition of the agricultural interests affects the whole country. I do not favor reduction of wages but I do believe labor should show a greater efficiency, which will be a big factor in reducing the cost of living. When the farmer can buy things cheaper and thus produce his crops more cheaply, the whole country will benefit.
"I think that as soon as President Harding and his administration get down to business they will arrange for peace, which will react favorably upon foreign finances and tend to put foreign exchange back where it belongs. That will help this country.
"And I think that the new administration will keep its hands off business, not pestering it the way it has been pestered; will remove the excess profits tax, for one thing, and enable business houses to save some capital in years when they make money to help them out in the years they don't.
"The prospect of the early spring crop are just fair," continued Mr. Marcy, when asked about the general store outlook..." The margin of the world's supply of wheat at the present time is not large. If the United States has a short crop this year, the world may face a shortage. That may send the price of wheat up but it will not benefit the farmers much, for what difference will it make if prices are good and they haven't the wheat to sell?"
WICKERSHEIM SAYS BUSINESS VERY GOOD
Last Friday and Saturday the Wickersheim implement Co. deliver three Fordson tractors to the Sam Kraemer ranch at Placentia, one Fordson to the B. P. Bryan ranch at Yorba Linda and one to the Frank Day ranch, Yorba Linda. Recently they delivered Fordson tractors to S. L. Pugh and Jas. J. Moolitch, R. 3, Anaheim; K. Oto, Buena Park; B. M. Selover, of Fullerton, and Riverside Portland Cement Co.
Altho this enterprising firm had 31 new Fords on hand Jan. 1st, and have received 98 since their stock of new cars will be exhausted in a few days. Mr. Wickersheim says that the used car business is very good, altho not as good as last year and the previous one, which might be considered abnormal years on account of the great shortage of new cars.

What's the Answer?
What's the Answer?
—Scattered along the roads are battered wrecks of automobiles. A miscalculation in speed, a slip on the pavement, awkward turn of a green driver, and there is a car or two for which someone must pay the damage.
—No doubt you are a careful driver. If all people would drive like you there would be no accidents. But that's no reason why you should be without insurance. You've got to figure that the other fellow is going to "slip-up" sooner or later and "get" your car. The only wise thing to do is to carry an adequate insurance policy on your car. Join our club. Then you'll get the kind of auto insurance you NEED and get it at the lowest rate for which dependable insurance can be procured.
