ELABORATE PLANS FOR COUNTY PARK
Elaborate plans for the improvement of Orange-co-park, prepared by Is Florence Yoch, landscape architect. Pasadena, have been submitted to supervisors for final acceptance.
Miss Yoch has submitted a large map showing the Santiago canyon road and various other highways leading to and through the park.
Among the more important features proposed by way of improvement are outdoor theater playgrounds, swimming pool, pavilion, zoo, concourse and parking areas.
The proposed entrance, which is still a matter of debate, calls for pillars and walls of yellow sandstone; iron grill with nameplate on each side; and heavy iron chains extending to a post in the center of the driveway instead of a gate. Indirect or flood lighting is also proposed.
The park is to be improved gradually, funds not being available for working out the plans on a large scale at this time.
The supervisors are of the opinion that the park will be one of the most attractive county parks in the state when the general plan is finally worked out.

Will Study Effects of Nematodes On Growths
Setting aside a plot of ground for the purpose of trying out various vegetable growths in a nematode infected area was planned at the meeting of the Buena Park Farm Center this week. John R. Waters, assistant Farm Advisor, spoke on the formation obtainable from a test plot a study of the effects and possible control of nematode growths.
Fred Bastady offered a plot of ground 50 by 100 feet, in a badly infected area. The Farm Bureau office, in co-operation with D. G. Millrath of the plant research department of the State Agricultural college, will plant various vegetables in this plot. Some of these will be of a species supposed to be immune and others of a highly resistant nature, such as velvet beans. The growth and actions of the nematode infection on these growths will be closely observed.
Waters was asked to explain the agriculture club movement. Following his talk on this subject, H. S. Horn, president of the center, apolished a committee to look into the matter of a Buena Park agriculture club. The members of the committee were Fred Bastady, George McNeill and David Mitchell.
W. M. Belding, president of the Orange County Farm Bureau, explained the efforts of the Farm Bureau to standardize values on barnyard manures through the analysis basis. The proposed laboratory under the direction of the Farm Bureau was mentioned by Belding, who urged the farmers to co-operate in testing for price on the analysis basis.
Dr. J. R. Schofield reported on the meeting with Congressman Phil D. Swing, at La Habra, February 3. He also urged the new members to attend at least one directors' meeting of the Farm Bureau organization.

PROTEST L. A. FILINGS
FRESNO, Feb. 25.—Protesting against the filings of Los Angeles on all available power sites in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the San Joaquin Valley, the Fresno-co C. of C. passed resolutions at a special meeting of the membership, attended by more than 500 people. These resolutions appeal to the business men of Los Angeles to dissuade the city officials from attempting to carry through their present plan of acquisition of water and power sites. The resolution points out that Los Angeles is not regulated by the State Railroad Commission; that Los Angeles can sell power both inside and outside the city limits; and that the power is needed for irrigation development locally.

FEARED Present Lemon Tariff Will be Vetoeed
With indications pointing to the passage of the Fordney emergency tariff bill by the National congress, lemon interests have little hope of the provisions of the bill ever becoming effective, according to E.B.Collier, manager of the Central Lemont association at Villa Park.
Collier stated today that it was the general belief of those who are in close touch with the situation that President Wilson would veto it should it come up to him for attachment of his signature.
According to the best information obtainable today, the bill is before the conference committee. Republican house and senate conferences have agreed to acceptance of amendments proposed in the senate. Confidence that it would be approved by the majority of the members of the conference committee was expressed by Senator Penrose.
"Lemon growers do not have much hope of the Fordney bill becoming operative, even if it is adopted by congress," said Collier.
"It is conceded that the president will veto it."
"The agitation, however, will be beneficial and will materially assist in putting over the regular bill when it comes up at a special session of congress, to be called by President-elect Harding."
Were it not for the weather, some people would never be able to break into a conversation—Kirksville (Mo.) Express.
