New York Letter by Lucy Jeanne Price NEW YORK, Feb 21.-After all a man does have considerable feeling of appreciation, or sympathy, for a girl who selects him as her husband, even if she goes on and selects another one too. And a pretty girl in distress is a pretty girl in distress even if she hasn't treated you just right. All of which explains the remorse of Mrs. Anna M. Burney's husbands. First Anna married William Burney, last June. She was 19 and he was 22. He blackened her eyes once or twice, and she being a blonde by nature, up and walked away from him. Last month, she married Oscar S. Lee, 28, whose added years she thought would make him a less controversial husband。但 as is apt to happen some peevish person told Oscar about William。他 went to see him and the two had Anna arrested for bigamy。但 when the judge held her in $3500 ball and put her in jail, they suddenly realized that they had got Anna into an uncomfortable position。所以他们 seized both their hats and rushed out together arm in arm to find the $3500 How they will arrange matters later has not as yet been determined. Charles Schofler, playing in "Welcome Stranger," is leaving the stage before long in order to practice his certified profession, that of an undertaker. A guard on the Third-ave elevated is authority for the statement that the Chinese are the most satisfactory passengers." We have our trouble with all different kinds of people." he said. There's every nationality in the country using this line and we have some special difficulty with each one—including Americans. But the Chinese are about the most peaceful of all They get on quietly, sit down quietly, and know where they want to go Maybe they're come such a long way from home that they're good travelers." Sometimes even fashions are news. The spring show at the Commodore certainly proved to be Just when he had all not used to feeling depressa terested in small deposits for checking accounts." People are afraid of the currency that around now." he said." So those who never before have opened checking accounts are scurrying in to do so It always has been that way, in the recurring periods of bills such seem to abound just now." Some of the testimony in the investigation of the police auto squad sounds like a Chapill reel For instance; one policeman recovered a brand new Cadillac reported as stolen He has a family and is known as a good provider So he decided to hold the machine News of his negligence reached the ears of the police auto squad The squad was covering the city in a weather-beaten craft that threatened to fall apart So a part of the squad one day drove up to the policeman's house just after he had parked the Cadillac The members moved from the worn car to the nice shiny one and drove away The policeman and his family came out discovered the exchange but made the best of it and took their drive with no protests Then one day,the policeman passed headquarters and saw the Cadillac He stopped, got out of the worn car that belonged to the auto squad, jumped into his family's pride, and likewise drove away. A crap-loving newsboy wandered into the Pennsylvania station the other day and decided it was an unjust world Only the day before had he been warned that if ever again that cop saw him shooting craps on the corner It would be the reform school for him And there in that beautiful station right in the lee of one of the large square pillars were gathered four eminently respectable commuters finishing the pinocchio game that had been too long for the trip in from their Long Island home." They do it every day." said a porter." These same men Seems like they just can't get enough o that game in the 25 minutes on their train So they have five minutes more right there each morning."
