MIDWAY PAYS $150,000 FOR LEASE Placentis-Richfield One of the largest oil land leases since the days of the advent of the Chapman gusher was put thru a few days ago by the Petroleum Midway Oil Company when it purchased the Keystone interests lease in the Olive Kruge property at Richfield. The Olive Kruge property adjoins the Richfield - Consolidated and now looks like one of the choice properties of the field. The Keystone Iron Works of Los Angeles leased the property some time ago and held it until the success of the Richfield-Consolidated began. A few weeks ago it decided to start drilling on the lease and built a rig. The Petroleum Midway stepped in and bought the property, taking over the rig and the improvements. It is the intention of the Petroleum Midway to go right ahead with the development of the new lease. The Petroleum Midway Isaacs No. 1 now has all the appearances of a good well. A few days ago the well made a sudden spurt and threw out quite a quantity of oil. Drilled to 2990 feet the formation has shown enough oil sand to ensure a nice producer. Splendid progress is being made at Richfield No. 1 in the few weeks that this well has been drilling. Already close to 2000 feet of hole has been drilled. On the Yarnell property No. 4, 11, 12 and 14 are drilling., Steiner No. 1 is at 2-450 in shaft. The Richfield-Consolidated is getting the sand cleaned out of its No. 2 and will have the well in first class production condition before the end of the week. No. 1 has been cleaned of all the lost tubing and is about ready to be drilled 100 feet deeper. No. 3 is rigging up. The report that the Richfield-Yorba will put in an air compressor for lifting the oil from its No. 1 has been confirmed. It is expected that the work on the plant will commence in a few days. The Richfield-Yorba well has shown considerable oil from time to time but fails to produce when put on the pump. The Ridgge Oil Company's well is now drilling at 2500 feet in clay and the showing of oil struck at 2245 has entirely disappeared. Drilling on the S. R. H. Oil Company's Wardman No. 1 is now at 2250 in hard sand and is going very nicely in spite of the hard formation. Two more and possibly three big producers are in sight for the Standard Oil Company at Richfield. Krasner 2-11 drilling in the oil sand at 4200 feet is showing very strongly and will be the Standard's next gusher. Krasner 2-1 drilling plotted last week is holding steadily at 350 barrels. No. 6 cleaning out in the oil sand at 4056 looks good. No. 7 also in the oil sand at 4260 is the field's next big producer. No. 2 at 3150 flows while the drilling is in progress and looks like a nice well. Drilling started the beginning of the week on No. 12, a new well. MRS. THOMPSON HOSTESS Mrs. T. J. Thompson was hostess on Wednesday noon at her home in the Mann-spts, 117 N. Olive-st, when she entertained a number of friends at a 1 o'clock luncheon. The affair was given as a courtesy for friends from Santa Monica who were her guests for the day. Covers were laid for six at a table which had been tastefully decorated with accacia blossoms. The afternoon was pleasantly spent in mooring about New City and thru There Is No Consider —Governor Stephens and other speakers stunned of the iniquitos King excess tax bill have de cl treasury. State officials estimate our income at Charge up against this the 1919-1921 $47,000,000; and add the $18,000 people for the next two years, funds, for children, and for interest and the total is We should have left in the treasury —Two Million Dollars left, after paying even to pay! —Two Million Dollars left, after paying for rate we had to pay when costs were higher than —Two Million Dollars left, after re-appropriation The Ridge Oil Company's well is now drilling at 2500 feet in clay and the showing of oil struck at 2245 has entirely disappeared. Drilling on the S. R. H. Oil Company's Wardman No. 1 is now at 2250 in hard sand and is going very nicely in spite of the hard formation. Two more and possibly three big producers are in sight for the Standard Oil Company at Richfield. Krasmer 2-11 drilling in the oil sand at 4200 feet is showing very strongly and will be the Standard's next gusher. Krasmer 2-1 drilling in the oil sand at 4025 feet is looking extremely good and bids fair to equal K-2-8 the biggest producer in Southern Cal. The pipe is on the ground for the continuance of Krasmer 1-5 and the drilling of this deep test well will be resumed at once at 3860. 1-12 is in the hard sand at 3200 and 1-13 is rigging up to start drilling. On the Collins property preparations are being made to bring in No. 2 at 4635 feet. The well has been looking good and something around 300 barrels is expected. Cuff No. 1 stands cemented at 4360. Leftus & O'Bryan is also standing at 4300. Drilling on the Vejar is at 4400 and as yet no showing. At 3297 the Wonder Oil Company's No. 1 showed a lot of gas under high pressure and was cemented at that depth. Offsetting the Standard's deep Krasmer No. 2 wells the Wonder should bring in a nice well at 4200. The Union Oil Company's Shepard No. 1 now drilling at 4675 and the deepest well drilling in the Placentia-Richfield district is showing considerable gas, constituting the first and only encouragement the well has ever given. The hole is in good condition and the drilling is going ahead nicely. J. W. Newell No. 1 failed to hold up to its original production and is now being deepened. At 3174 the well is flowing some and makes drilling rather difficult. On the same property No. 2 a new well spudded in and is drilling. C. & B. No. 1 is in the oil sand at 4025 feet and is looking good. Stern No. 1 is beginning to look like a good well at 3275 where a nice oil sand is being drilled through. On the Chapman property No. 1 the old stand by sticks around 700 barrels with a uniformity of production that is remarkable.
