New York Letter by Lucy Jeanne Price
NEW YORK, Feb. 15.—The tired business man of Greater New York need no longer be forced to take his recreation in seeing musical comedies. He can chop wood. Park Commissioner Harmon, of Brooklyn, has issued a general invitation to any and all who feel that their nerves need toning or their figures improved. Two hundred and fifty cords of dead food gathered from the parks are all piled up and waiting the work of patriotic or health-and-beauty-seeking citizens. One such has applied for the job. Chas. T. Davis, wealth manufacturing chemist, says the doctor has ordered him to exercise and he'll take it in wood chopping, even if it does make him a fellow-craftsman of the one-time William II.

Rosalie Sparacino, a 19-year-old girl of Richmond Hill, is reviving here the almost dead art of tapestry. "Hand embroidered paintings," she calls the work she has done which is now exhibited for the first time. The work is like the tapestries of Italy and France in other centuries except that she works with silk. She drew her inspiration when she was ten years old from the ancient weavings in the art museums and has been working steadily away ever since that time. Her results now may truly be called art.
One auto storage company here has established an inexorable rule against new cars if they are the owners' first. "Did you ever put a car up for the winter before?" is the first question, unless the auto is old and battered. And if the answer is "No," the would-be customer must seek another storing place. "They're more bother than the storing is worth," explains the manager. "People hire with a first car, when it's new, just as they are with their first baby. They can't leave it in peace. They come down here on all sorts of excuses just to look at it and be sure that we're taking care of it properly." They want to cuddle it all the time.
