SIX NEW RIGS AT HUNTINGTON BEACH (Huntington Beach Field) There are six new rigs in sight in the field since last report, being D-1 on a Huntington Beach Co. lease at Twenty-third and Mansion, southwest of the high school, to be drilled by the Standard Oil Co. The derrick has been completed. J. T. Hurst John Leonis, J. Frank and Geo. S. King have purchased lots 1 and 2. block 1014, Main and Wesley, and are constructing a rig preparatory to drilling a well on these lots, which are 56x155. Mr. King resides in Huntington Beach, and he and Mr. Hurst recently came from Wyoming. Some material has been delivered on the ground for a new well to be drilled by Vista Del Mar Oil Co. on lots 13, 14 and 15. Wetson's addition, east of Huntington ave between Knoxville and Memphis, known as the Henry R. Dabney lease. D. Huston owns lot 13 and S. A. Moore 14 and 15. Lumber is being delivered on the ground for new wells to be drilled by the Venture Oil Co. on the Clark lease, northeast of Bolsa No. 1, and for the Peerless Petroleum Co. on the Griffith-Thompson community, a short distance southwest of the Union Newland No. 1. This land is owned by Mrs. Rosa Griffith of Huntington Beach and Irving Thompson of El Toro. The other rig is to be erected by the Texcal Oil and Refining Co. on the Grant lease. Since last report two new wells have been spudded in by the Standard Oil Co.—Well No. 1, Jones community, southeast of Bolsa No. 1, and A-8, Huntington Beach Co. original lease, southwest of Bolsa No. 1. The showings of oil in the Jones well have been better than any other well in the field, when depth is considered, as at about 500 feet a sand was struck carrying considerable oil, believed by some to be sufficient to produce 20 of 25 barrels per day. If tested, this well was between 800 and 900 feet deep Thursday morning. About 200 feet of the 15-inch casing has been set to proceed Thursday morning, the cement having been broken in the work of ripping the casing and sidetracking the portion remaining in the hole. It looks as tho A-4, the offset well north of Reservoir Hill, is to be one of the big producers of the field, as after drilling into the sands only 10 feet the well was capped, as the gas pressure was so strong that those in charge that "the might drill herself in," so they "hooked her up to give her a chance." The water shutoff at A-5 was a success, and the well is being drilled in with rotary tools. A-3 is still cemented. A-7 is about 1800 feet deep. Drilling has been delayed at Bolsa No. 2 on account of a fishing job at about 1400 feet. The derrick has been completed for the rig of E-1 on the Huntington Beach Co. E lease, covering the Wesley Heights tract, in the city limits. Work was delayed for several days at Torrance No. 1, near the Bolsa Chica club house, due to a cave-in, but the hole has been cleaned out and drilling is under way again at about 3950 feet. Drilling has been resumed at Surf No. 1, Surf Land & Water Co. lease on the lowlands east of the city limits. The well is about 3600 feet, in sandy shale carrying oil and gas. The work of laying a pipe line to this well is in progress, and will probably be completed in a few days. B-1, south of Reservoir Hill, which came in Sunday, Jan.-22 at about 1500 barrels, and dropped down to about 500 barrels per day, has been doing considerably better since last report, the flow having increased to between 700 and 800 barrels. Well No. 1, Ray Walker community, southeast of the high school, was spudded in at 11:40 Sunday morning, and 108 feet of stove pipe casing was being set Thursday morning. The drill is going in the well on the Columbia lease No. 3, east of Reservoir Hill, at 2900, and the showing indicates that casing will likely be set soon. The derrick has been completed on the Columbia lease at Main and Clay streets, and the work of rigging up is in progress. This will will be spudded in in about 10 days. There is nothing new to report on gas indication casing will produce days and the heat. West Wind The work of string of tools lined Hill, is going rails jobs almost invasions was 1940 feet during. Texas I There is not this week at the company on the lease east of Reservoir Blue Shale C Nothing has Stebbins lease in Del Mar tract, Huntington The work of pressing on the Gunny town at Mall indications are be spudded in so far. Texcal Oil & The Texcal Co throw up the spot the Burks lease, Hill, and the derrick 24 feet east when be drilled. About all the calendar has fallen The showings of oil in the Jones well have been better than any other well in the field, when depth is considered, as at about 500 feet a sand was struck carrying considerable oil, believed by some to be sufficient to produce 20 of 25 barrels per day. It tested. This well was between 800 and 900 feet deep Thursday morning. About 200 feet of the 15½-inch casing has been set to protect the hole in the surface soil. Bolsa No. 1, the gusher that made the field famous, was being cemented. YOU MAY WANT A Walnut Grove. We have a fine one located close to Anaheim on the boulevard, too. The derrick has been completed on the Columbia lease at Main and Clay streets, and the work of rigging up is in progress. This well will be spudded in in about 10 days. There is nothing new to report on the Vollmer-Meyor lease, southeast of the Bolsa No. 1. Altho the rig has practically complete for some time, it will be the last one of the four-wells to be spudded in. Altho the showing in the well being drilled by the Union Oil Co. on the W.T. Newland lease is nothing to get excited about, there is evidently a gradual improvement, and of course there should be is there any hopes, as the well is now about 4000 feet deep. The formation is still a brown shale, but there is now some sand in the shale, which is considered a good sign, and establishes the belief that there will soon be enough oil in this shale to make a well. Well No. 1 on the Copeland community, southeast of Bolsa No. 1, is about 2000 feet deep, in blue shale. This well is showing enough oil and gas to warrant the statement that it will be ready for casing cery shortly. This well is about 1100 feet from Bolsa No. 1, where casing was set at a little over 1900 feet. Analgamated Oil Co. The work of cutting and pulling out the tools in the hole of well No. 1, east of Reservoir Hill, is progressing slowly. No. 2, south of the Hill, was cemented at 2000 feet. This is the well where the rig was destroyed by a gas blow-out several weeks ago. Well No. 1, on the G.F.Powler community lease, is drilling at 2045 feet, with a fair showing of both oil problems. Your PRINTING Problems We Can Solve Them! The Plain Dealer Job Printing Department The Petrie The work of rigging the C.J. Porter oak and Summit, is slowly.
