Thursday, February 3, 1921 City Briefs Chas. Adams, of Long Beach, was an Anaheim visitor Wednesday. J. B. Fergus, of Placentia, is a patient at the local hospital. Chas. Kuntz, of Anaheim, is a patient at the local hospital. J. Van Dyke left today for Belle Plain Iowa, over the Santa Fe. W. E. Bartlett is out again following a severe siege of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hendricks are spending several days at Long Beach. A. T. Brown, of Los Angeles, was a business visitor in Anaheim Wednesday. Mrs. Ida J. Hughes is a guest for a few days this week of Los Angeles friends. Mrs. Wilbur Harper, of Garden Grove, was the guest of Anaheim friends on a recent evening. Miss Frances Smith will take supper with Mr. and Mrs. James Whittaker at Orange tonight. Mrs. J. C. Smith will be the guest over the week-end of Mrs. Fred Steech, of Orange. Mr. and Mrs. Bonfield, of San Diego, en route to Los Angeles, visited in Anaheim yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Steel and daughter, Vera, attended the Kansas picnic in Long Beach Saturday. Mrs. Myrtle Miner, of Birmingham, Ala., is spending a few weeks in Anaheim on a western tour. Mrs. Richard Melrose, of North Philadelphia-st, is slowly recovering from a severe attack of pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. Welcome M. Ward, of Santa Ana, were dinner guests last evening of Mrs. Ward's parents. C. W. White and Geo. Steel, of the Anaheim Variety store, were business visitors in Los Angeles Tuesday. Mrs. R. T. Shearme, of Santa Anna, was the guest today of her mother, Mrs. J. A. Githrie, 505-E. Adele-st. The French class of the Anaheim high school will hold an entertainment at the high school auditorium tonight. Adams, S. Claudina-st. The Anaheim first basketball team will meet the Santa Ana team tonight at the third league game of the season at Santa Ann. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hendricks and their daughter, Mrs. C. H. West, have returned after spending several days at Catalina. John Mold is erecting a new bungalow at the corner of Center and West-sts. Material is being furnished by the Gibbs Lumber Co. W. J. M. Helms has taken the agency for the Massachusetts Mutual Insurance Co. and is taking orders at his home, 525 S. West-st. Mrs. R. W. Tautenhahn, wife of Rev. Tautenhahn of W. Broadway, underwent an operation at the local hospital this morning. Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Clossen will entertain the members of the Evening Pinochle club this evening at their home on W. Cypress-st. Dr. and Mrs. William Gray and son of Artesia, were guests last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Shinn, of S. Buena Park. J. E. Miller, who for several months has been with the W. O. Lusk Co., has returned to Sacramento, where he will resume his position with the Cole Auto Co. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hartung and John Hartung were Venice visitors Tuesday, Mr. and Mrs. John Hartung are moving to their new home in Venice today. Mrs. J. B. Cassana and daughter, Miss Gertrude, who have been spending the winter at 201 Emily-st, will leave Saturday for their home at Cedar Falls, Pa. C. R. Harrison, of Minneapolis, Minn., who has been in San Diego, and was returning to Los Angeles, stopped off for a visit with Mr. M. E. Beebe, an old time friend. Mrs. D. R. Twinem of E. F. Bell ranch on the County-rd. have as their guests Mrs. Elizabeth Devitt, of Morningside, Iowa, and Miss Margaret Dodds, of Columbus, Ohio, who will remain for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dover, of Billings, Mont., who are spending the winter in Los Angeles with their daughter, a student at U. S. C., were the guests Tuesday and Wednesday of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Sheridan, of N. Lemonat. MRS. VIOLETT NAMED AS RED CROSS HEAD GARDEN GROVE, Feb. 3.-The local Red Cross branch met at the Garden Grove hotel Friday evening, for the purpose of electing officers and the transaction of other necessary business. The results of the election were as follows: Chairman, Mrs. C. C. Violett; secretary and treasurer, Miss Clara Lott; directors, Messrs. G. W. Reyburn, H. A. Lake, J. G. Allen, F. C. Thompson and R. B. Richey. A vote of thanks was given Miss Mabel Head for her services as treasurer during the past three years. J. G. Allen reported that $243 had been collected in the roll call drive. Plans were made for the opening of a salvage shop and for the presentation of a Red Cross film at the local theatre at an early date.
