Thursday, January 27, 1921 UNION'S BREA CANY'N PRODUCTION AT 2700 The Union has just completed and brot in two wells in Brea Canyon. Stearns No. 61 looks good for a 250 barrel well. Stearns No. 68 came in a few days ago and is making approximately 400 barrels. These two wells with the others that have been brot in during the past few months brings the Union's Brea Canyon production up to about 2700 barrels daily of 27 gravity oil, the very cream for refining. With the striking of a deep sand that is showing lots of oil and gas at 2500 feet the Brea Canyon Oil Co.'s No. 32 is looking very much better. The sand at the present depth of 3675 feet still continues. Re-drilling on No. 33 is making progress at 1160. No. 2-A an old producer is to be re-drilled and deepened. No. 34 is a completed rig waiting for crew. The Columbia Oil Producing Co. is now making hole at Orange No. 7 after drilling on iron at 2800 feet for some time. Orange No. 7 is now drilling and making new hole at 2-276. Pleo No. 2 is going ahead in the hard sand at 3000 feet. No. 4 is standing at 600. No. 5 is drilling at 300, and going good. Menchego No. 1 is deepening and looking good in the oil sand at 3025. Menchego No. 1 is deepening and looking good in the oil said at 3025. Menchego No. 2 is at 3100 feet drilling in hard shell. At 2645 feet the Fullerton Oil Co.'s No. 16 is drilling in shale that carries considerable oil. No. 6 one of the old time producers is getting ready to go down deeper with the rotary. No. 15 the deep sand test well is still holding up to its initial production of 200 barrels. On the Tonner property in Brea Canyon the General Petroleum has three wells drilling. Tonner No. 5 is redrilling and making hole at 2-300 feet. Tonner No. 6 is drilling in the shale at 2685 and is looking rather good. Tonner No. 5 is still held up fishing for drill pipe at 3000 feet. The National Exploration Co. is now making some real progress at Olinda. No. 1 Olinda seemingly has gotten away from all its past difficulties and is now drilling in the hard shale at 1165. Drilling at Chino No. 1 is at 550 in the shale and boulders. The West Coast Oil Co. did not bring in its No. 77 as scheduled last week. At 2780 the oil sand looked so good that it was decided to drill deeper. At 2845 this good looking sand still continues and the drilling will continue until the sand is drilled thru. No. 49 at 2435 is drilling in hard sand. No. 88 is still pounding away in the conglomerate at 1-750. Nos. 83 and 87 are new rigs ready to start drilling. The Union Oil Co. still continues developing on the old Graham-Loftus and Naranjal properties. Graham-Loftus No. 51 at 3100 feet is temporarily held up with a fishing job. Graham-Loftus No. 52 is at 2650 in blue shale and shell. On the Nranjal an attempt is being made to make an oil well out of No. 10, where re-drilling is now under way at 2600. SPEEDWAY TI AID SALES K.C.Ll, one of the industrial princes of China, departing for the Far East from Victoria, B.C., said, "The walls of Canto City are to be pulled down to make way for an automobile speedway, China has 6000 autoes and she should have 6,000,000.Many cities in China, hoarding a population of hundreds of thousands, cannot boast of an automobile. C. B. BERGER CO. “HEADQUARTERS FOR GOOD GROVES” MALGAMATED GOING FAST AT FOWLER 1 Huntington Beach. The Amalgamated Oil Co. is going head rapidly with its Fowler No. 1 and Huntington 2-A. Fowler No. 1 is drilling and sidetracking a bit at 1150, huntington 2-A is making hole at 1700 on the blue shale. At Huntington No. the lost drill is being washed over, out in sections and pulled out. The Bell of Montebello spudded in and started actual drilling the first of the week. The well started with theable tools. Work of rigging up is going ahead rapidly on the property of the Huntington Central and actual drilling is scheduled to start within the next 10 days. The good showing the Keck & Miley well is now spaking adds considerable weight to the position of the Huntington Central. Lumber is on the ground for Huntington Central No. The Mid-Central Oil Co. is now drilling in the brown shale at 3800 feet. While the wel is getting a little deep, the indications are getting more favorable as the hole goes down. Some strong colors and a quantity of gas have been showing for the past 100 feet. Present indications and conditions at the Keck & Miley well point strong to production before very long. On drilling out the cement at 2100, the sand heaved up some 300 ft and it was with some difficulty that the well was prevented from blowing out. Drilling is now going ahead in the sand at 2200 with the showing and indications very good. On the Vollmer-Heyer property adopting the Union and Western Union the Petroleum Midway is about ready to spud in and start drilling. Columbia 3-1 is drilling in the brown shale at 2175. Wigle and McBride are making splendid progress drilling Republic Petroleum No. 1. At 2750 the formation is hard shale and the oil showing is increasing as the hole goes deeper. Pipe will probably be set at 3000. An effort was made early in the week to bring in Huntington B-1 on the Standard Oil's property. Completed at 2550 the well showed up pretty strong, but on bringing it in it produced for a couple of hours only and sanded up. Sand seems to be the big menace of the field, and screen pipe does not seem to help the situation. Huntington A-8, A-4 and A-6 are standing cemented. At A-5 the cement is being drilled out to resume drilling at 2045. Huntington A-7 is drilling at 1550 and A-8 is rigging up. Bolsa No. 3 spudded in a few days ago and is now drilling. Surf No. 1 will set 6 inch at 3500 and them resume drilling. The quality of the oil has been getting better as this wel deepens. Torrance No. 1 is now the deep well of the field, being close to 3900 feet. The Texcal Oil Co. is being held up temporarily at 2500 feet, fishing for some lost drill pipe. The drilling has been going good and it is not expected that the fishing job will hold up the work very long. Preparations are being made to start well. The well will be drilled by Wigle and McBride whose work on Republic Petroleum demonstrates their ability beyond a question. Operators are anxious to have the cement drilled out at Vista Del Mar and a test made. Prior to the cementing this well looked very good. Just when the cement will be drilled out could not be learned. Good time is being made by Orange County Drilling Co. on the Venture Oil Co.'s well. The drilling is now at 3200 feet, formation shale. Pipe will be set in a few days. The Western Union is going right down. Already 1200 feet of hole has been made. The drilling has been mostly in sand and soft shale so far. The West Whittier was unable to pull the drill pipe after shooting off a four-way bit at 2800 feet. The lost drill pipe is now being drilled by at 1875 feet. It will be a little time before the hole will be in condition to set pipe. Drilling at 2700 feet the Union Oil Co.'s Newland's No. 1 is showing as nice as looking brown shale as any oil well ever showed, but the shale is not showing any oil. DODGE ATTAINS 500,000 MARK Before a great crowd of workmen assembled within the gates at the Dodge factory, Detroit, the 500,000 Dodge motor car was completed July 10.
