ELKS LADIES' CLUB MEETS
The Elks Ladies' club was charmingly entertained last evening at the home of Mrs. C. W. Blattner, Newell-ave, Placentia. The ladies meet once a month, while their husbands are attending lodge meeting, and spend the time playing cards.
Last evening the time was spent in the usual diversion, playing Five Hundred. After a number of games, scores were counted and the first prize was awarded to Mrs. Frank Anderson, second, Mrs. Fred Cline, and the consolation to Mrs. Vic LaMont.
Late in the evening the ladies were joined by their husbands, dancing was enjoyed. At midnight the hostess served delicious refreshments.
The members present were Mmes. Vic LaMont, Joe Stroup, F. W. James Frank Mauer, Henry Heyling, Chester Harrison, William Lake, L. P. Bonat, Ed Schneider all of Anaheim, Mmes. T. McFadden, William Berkenstock, Fred Cline and the hostess all of Placentia. Mrs. George Taylor of Lankershim who is the house-guest of Mrs. Blattner, and Mrs. Frank Anderson of Anaheim were guests of the club.
MRS. A. B. McCORD HOSTESS
Mr. A. B. McCord, of S. Los Angeles-st, entertained yesterday afternoon for the members of the Wednesday Afternoon Five Hundred club. Following a number of spirited games, prizes were awarded to Mrs. Joe Carroll and Miss Sophia Rimpau.
Late in the afternoon the hostess served dainty refreshments, the guests being seated at the card tables, which held cut glass baskets of sweet peas.
Those present included Mmes. Joe Carroll, Fritz Yungbluth, E. Borchert, W. A. Dolan, J. W. Truxaw, Fred Backs Jr., G. W. Clossen, J. J. Schnelder, Misses Annie Everhardy, Sophia Rimpau, Annie Ryan and Marle Rimpau.
The next meeting of the club will be held the fourth Wednesday in February at the home of Mrs. G. W. Closson.
REGULAR MEETING HELD
The regular meeting of the Domestic Science section of the Anaheim Ebell club was held in the Masonic Temple club rooms Wednesday afternoon. About 20 ladies were in attendance at the meeting was a most pleasant one.
Following a short business session, at which it was decided to give another informal dance on Tuesday evening, Feb. 8, in Presswell's hall, the meeting was turned over to Miss Betty Conlin, of the Bake-Rite Co., who gave a most interesting and very instructive talk on the art of baking. Miss Conlin served delicious cake to those present, at the close of her talk.
The next meeting of the section will be held the fourth Wednesday in February, and the hostesses for the occasion will be Mesdames M. E. Canby, Joe Collings and Miss E. Costello.
CHARMING INFORMAL AFFAIR
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Newell, of Placentia, were the delightful host and hostess Tuesday evening at a charming informal affair in honor of Mrs. George Taylor of Lankershim, who is the guest of Mrs. C. W. Blattner.
A pleasant evening of cards was enjoyed with Five Hundred as the game. Prizes for high score were awarded to Mrs. E. Knight and Mr. Knight, and the consolation to Mr. Lahoffer and Mrs. Christie.
Late in the evening Mrs. Newell served dainty refreshments. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. E. E.Knight, Mr. and Mrs.Banks, Mr. and Mrs.Eric Lamhoffer, Mrs.Cristie, Dr.Lester Keller, Mrs.Geo.Taylor, and Mr. and Mrs.C.W.Blattner.

MONTHLY Y. P. S. C. E MEETING
The regular monthly business meeting and banquet of the northern Orange-co Y. P. S. C. E was held in the Placentia Presbyterian church on Tuesday evening. There was a good representation of members of the different C. E. societies in the north half of the county.
At 6:30 a splendid banquet was served in the dining room at which the Placentia young ladies were hostesses. Following this all adjourned to the auditorium where a business stop paying rent — Buy a lot and build your own home.

BOOK LOVERS CLUB TUESDAY
The regular meeting of the Book Lovers club will be held next Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Henry Adams, Balboa. The regular noon luncheon will be followed by the study of the author chosen for the afternoon.

SURPRISE FAREWELL TO ERNEST THURMAN
BUENA PARK, Jan. 27—Special—A surprise farewell party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Horn in honor of Ernest Thurman, who left with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Thurman. Wednesday morning for Lodd, where they expect to make their future home on a ranch. The evening was very enjoyable spent in games after which delicious refreshments of ice cream, cake, candy and orange were served. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Horn, Mr. and Mrs. Geo Thurman, Miss Nila Paulkner, Wilhelmina Sharp, Bertha Sharp, Beulah Nelson, Eunice Mann, Doris Williams, Mable Robeson, Bertha Robeson, Dora Benton, Florence Warren, Dorothy Murhead, Florence Schofield, Elizabeth Berkey, Lester Schofield, Everett Berkey, Everett Nuttall, Tommie Nuttall, Clifford Clyde, Delford Benton, Eugene Childers, Noel Dodd, Paul Horn, Leona Horn and Mildred Bacon.

Githens, of south town of town; were held at Backs & Terry's funeral parls on Tuesday afternoon; Mrs. Githens was March 6, 1835; at Mount Holly, Ohio; She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 65 years; initiated in Hamilton chapter; Illinois later affiliated with El Mirn as secretary for many years.

The Mexican government may send Villa, whom Gen. Pershing invaded Mexico to catch and hang, as the general in charge of troops to rescue a colony of Americans who are being menaced by Mexican outlaws under command of the Arleta brothers, the most dreaded bandits now at large in Mexico.
FULLERTON LOSES TO YORBA LINDA 48-28
Fullerton J. C. basketballers were forced to accept the short end of a 48-28 score with Yorba Linda yesterday. The best playing of the season was displayed despite the fact that Hitchcock, star forward, was unable to play at all and Witter, center, could play only a part of the game, on account of temporary injuries to their feet.

Mrs. B. Lawrence and Mr. and Mrs.J.Wilsey were Huntington Beach visitors Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs.Wilsey are from Jacksonville, Fla., and are spending the winter here with Mrs.E.E. Thurman.

A very calorieable evening was spent at the Masonic dance Tuesday night.The music was fine and the same on two weeks.Doughnut and coffee were served during the intermission.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kohl and son Robert, of Chicago, have been guests this week in the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. Klstler, on E. Center-st. They will be in California until April and will then return to the east for a time, but hope to return to this state for the permanent home.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Pressel, 203 South Clementine-st, were delightfully surprised yesterday when their friends, Mr. and Mrs. August Hahn and three children, arrived from Winnipeg, Canada. Mr. and Mrs. Hahn and family will visit at the Pressel home for some time, and if a suitable location can be found will settle in Anaheim.
Mrs. Roy Vanatta and Misses Zola and Marion and Billy and Dewey, of Olinda, came yesterday and took Miss Kate and Carl Vanatta to Los Angeles with them. While in the city they attended the afternoon performance at Grauman's and then set out on a shopping tour in search of electric fixtures and rugs. But not finding anything suitable in the city, they returned to Anaheim and made satisfactory purchases here.

ATTEMPT TO KILL ARMENIAN CHIEF
PARIS, Jan. 26—An unsuccessful attempt was made here to assassinate the president of the Armenian mission. Several shots were fired but all missed their mark. The Armenian delegation came to Paris to put the case of their country before the allies.
PARIS, Jan. 26—Uncle Sam today became an invisible attendant at the allied council meeting here. The attitude of the U.S. toward Germany and the League of Nations became a question shutting out consideration of Austria, and the Near East temporarily. The report of Sir Auckland Geddes, British ambassador to the U.S., will form the basis of the allied debate.
ORANGE BANK INCREASES STOCK
With deposits approximating $1,-300,000, a surplus of $60,000 and an increase in the capital stock of $50,-000 absorbed by the issuance of stock dividends, stockholders of the Orange National bank today were congratulating themselves following the annual meeting. Capitalization was increased from $100,000 to $150,000.
