Walker, Mrs. Van Cleave and the hostesses Mrs. Hargroves and Mrs. Logsdon.

SEEKS MEMBERS OF SOCIAL CONFERENCE
Strong support by social workers of this county and locality for the coming convention of the California Conference of social Work is sought in a membership drive being held here under the direction of Mrs. J. H. Leebrick, conference chairman for this county.
The conference, which is the state wide organization of persons interested in public health, recreation, crime, juvenile delinquency and similar problems, will convene at San Francisco for four days beginning next Feb. 23rd.
As preliminary work to the convention, each county in the state is being organized. Chairman Mrs. J. H. Leebrick explained the movement today as follows:
"After a dozen years of scattered activity, the conference of Social Work has undertaken permanent organization. The reason is simply that California has awakened as never before to the value of social work.

AUTHOR OF BIBLE
"Is the Bible the word of God and is God the Author of it in a sense that he is the author of no other book?" was the subject of Dr. Loren Howe's sermon at the services of the First Christian Church last night. He showed wherein science and the Bible do NOT contradict as many suggest and by quotations from the Bible and from science showed where the smartest infidels had been confounded.
"The Bible is the only book that will fit people of all nations and all creeds," declared the minister. "The devil would not have written it and man could not have written it without being inspired by the Lord. It is the universal book and filled from title page to finish with good logical, sound common sense that could have been inspired only by the maker of the universe."
TWO IN COURT KISS AND DECLARE TRUCE
After fully airing their marital troubles before Justice of the Peace Cox, thru the medium of an interpreter, Sildardo Gomez and his wife, Natalla, were in their home, 310 South Flower-st, today, reconciled.
Too much mother-in-law on one side and too much father-in-law on the other appeared to be the cause of the temporary estrangement.
Young Gomez was arrested on a battery charge preferred by his wife. She declared her husband struck her on one occasion when she did not have supper ready on his return home. Gomez maintained that he did not strike his wife, but admitted that he pushed her to one side and admonished her for not preparing his meals regularly.
According to Gomez, his wife's mother is the cause of all their troubles and his wife on the other hand blames Gomez' aged father, who makes his home with them.
The mother-in-law on the stand claimed that she had a right to visit her daughter whenever she pleased and give her advice. Each witness took the stand several times and charges and counter-charges were made by each.
Justice of the Peace Cox and Interpreter Carrillo both urged the young couple to kiss and make up concerned.
