THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA PROPOSES DAMS TO CONSERVE S. A. RIVER The construction of a series of concrete dams across the Santa Ana river is advocated by W. P. Howe, a civil engineer and expert on water affairs. Howe's home is in San Bernardino. Howe proposes these dams as a method of conserving the flood waters of the river for irrigation and power purposes. Howe's plan is outlined by him in the San Bernardino Sun as follows: "As San Bernardino is my home and will be the home of my progeny I am necessarily interested in their future and the future of the entire San Bernardino valley. I have spent six years of continuous study of the underground and surface water of the contiguous country and submit the following plan." "The Santa Ana river is the one unit source that offers the city of San Bernardino an adequate future supply of water. The city should immediately file on the entire flow of the Santa Ana river beyond the existing needs of other parties. This should cover the flood flow and the city should seek to conserve and control this flood flow. It could do this in co-operation with those parties or districts desiring relief from the flood menace and with the power companies which desire an increased steady flow of water. The city could develop its own power or might accept power from the electric companies in exchange for the added power developed by the increased flow. There is also the power that could be developed by the fall from the mouth of the canyon to the city." "I would suggest dams of concrete or masonry at every possible dam site regardless of the storage capacity. The dams should be of an economical height and 50 feet should not be prohibitive." "The dams need not all be built at once, but may be added as requirements demand. It would not be necessary to start the work in the upper reaches of the watersheds and work down as is required when light check dams are used, but they could be put where they would do the most good. The dams need not be built to this full height at first, but could be in" Plain Dealer Wants Bring Suit Place Your Wants Before the Greatest Number of WANTED — SITUATION WANTED — By married man, tracting, walking or general farm work on ranch. However, they landed safely home, at the rate of 10 or 15 miles per hour. Ha! Ha! Just listen to this! We often hear of children playing hookey from school and also their homes, but this happens to be neither. Just milk cows. CENTRALIA PROTEST FILED WITH COUNTY A formal protest against annexing the Centralia school district to the Anaheim Union high school district was on file in the county clerk's office today. The protest was addressed to supervisors. The supervisors made an order on Nov. 23 annexing the elementary school to the Anaheim Union high school district. The petition, which is signed by a majority of the electors of the Centralia district, urges the board of supervisors to rescind this action. It is understood that Centralia's action is taken under the state law passed by the legislature two years ago. A number of children living in Centralia district attend the Anaheim Union high school. In order to secure compensation for teaching those children, the high school district proceeded to secure the annexation of the common school district. With the protest that is now filed, if it proves sufficient, the annexation will be set aside. Thereafter Anaheim Union will determine what it costs per pupil to run its school. Centralia district will then be taxed to pay that amount for each pupil who goes to Anaheim Union from Centrailia. BUICKS COME WITH CORDS & ALAMITE Judging from the stacks of tires that are arranged about the shop and the numerous Alamite systems that are in evidence, the Anaheim Auto Co appears to be preparing to enter the tire and accessory game. Manager Goodrum, however, assures us that this is not the case. He states that starting with Jan. 1, all Buick cars are equipped at the factory with either United States or Goodyear cords and the Alamite lubricating system. The Anaheim Auto Co is the Anaheim and Fullerton dealers for the Buick and as several were in transit previous to the date that installation of the new equipment began, they are being fitted with same after their arrival. This accounts for the large stocks seen on the floor of the local auto firm.
