LOCAL FISHERMEN WILL OPEN TROUT SEASON THURSDAY
The trout season in District No. 4, which includes Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties, opens on Thursday. The motorist-fishermen of Anaheim and northern Orange-coast are busily preparing for the annual rush to the trout waters and for their guidance there has been gathered information by the Security Motor-Dyas Trout Scouts. The party, consisting of Celph Salisbury, one of the best known sportsmen in Southern California, S. E. Bedford of Anaheim, sales manager for the Walter and Day agency for Mitchell and Premier motor cars, and C. F. Crank, made a five-day trip of 500 miles in a Mitchell "six" to collect careful and reliable data on road and stream conditions and prospects for accommodations.
Outside of the mud and snow on the San Bernardino side of the Big Bear district, the party encountered no trouble in the Mitchell and motorists this year will find the roads in better condition than usual at the opening of the season. The automobile has truly become the means of transportation for the fishermen and he can now get into his motor car at home and drive right to the edge of the stream, catching the limit and getting back home quickly and in complete comfort.
Carried Complete Equipment.
The Security Motor Dyas Scouts carried a complete equipment on the running board of the car when they were not near a hotel or resort, pitched their camp and did their own cooking, and as they carried folding spring beds, enjoyed all the comforts of home with the starry heavens as a roof. According to Salisbury, who has fished in this district the last twenty years, this is one of the most promising seasons on record for the fish are plentiful in most places, although, because of the slight rainfall some of the streams are rather low.
Big Bear Lake has more water in it this year than for many years and the prospects for fishing are, as a re-this time of year and should provide excellent sport through opening days.
The road conditions at this time, and with the prospects of being the same on opening days, are such that it will be necessary to enter Big Bear Valley by Tejon Pass. This is one of the few years in which Mojave Creek has no water in it which makes it possible for the motorist to cut off 18 miles of travel as well as saving an hour and a half in time by going via Hesperia. The Security Motor-Dyas Trout Scouts report this road in excellent condition and good time can be made over it.
Forest Road and Mill Creek Road will not be open until at least May 20, snow and falling trees making travel impossible.

In the Placentia-Orange-Fullerton-Anaheim district may be found the most productive and biggest income-orange, lemon and walnut groves in the world. Situated mid-way between the foothills and mountains on one side and the ocean on the other, the climate is ideal, and as the main underground water shed from the mountains to the sea lies under this section, the water supply is neverfalling.
We are in a position to show you some of the very best groves and homes that may be purchased in Orange County. Write for grove folder.

Al Reed reports that the fish are so plentiful in the streams around Big Bear District when they are going to spawn that they fairly crowd each other out of the water. One fish in particular, measuring thirty-three inches and weighing about nine pounds, went up stream as far as possible and became stranded and it became necessary for Reed to throw the fish back into the water. Deputy Wardens are patrolling all of the streams to keep the fish from becoming stranded on the sands.
The spawning station, which is on Big Bear Lake, reports that they expect to take about two million eggs

Marino Dam, also near San Diego, should have one of the most favorable openings as the large mouth bass are taking the fly hungrily and any one man could get the limit by going after them.

Lytle Creek is low this season, although there should be a few limits for those who arrive first on opening day. The roads are in excellent condition and good camping sites are available.
San Antonia Creek, on the road to Mt. Baldy, is not over-stocked this year and there will be few limits.
The San Gabriel River is also very low this season. The Opids Camp on the North Fork is in fine shape. The water is low and clear and it is free from moss. The prospects here are better than usual for the opening.
Rincon Outlook Good.
At Camp Rincon all indications point to fine fishing for the opening day.
Follows Camp, also on the San Gabriel, should provide excellent fishing for the first few days of the season.
Camp Bonito on the East Fork of the San Gabriel, reports fish in abundance and the water is in fine shape for opening day.
The Big Bear Creek, near Saugus, reached via the Highway, is a very swift stream this year and should produce limits for a couple of weeks, and it is the advice of the Security Motor-Dyas Scouts that those going to Big Rock Canyon do so early as its accessibility usually means that it is fished out early.
For those who wish to go farther away, Cuyamaca Lake, near San Diego, should be good for the first month of the season. This spot is

PRICE SAYS EXPERT
Mr. S. E. Bedford, a motor car expert, for many years with the Security Motor Cor., formerly the Leach Motor Car Co., and who the past week has located in Anaheim to take charge of the distribution of Mitchell and Premier cars for Walter and Day, Orange-co. agents, has the following to say for the Mitchell car:
"Driving the Mitchell continuously for five days on the Scouting Tour, the real test came the last day with over 300 miles to go and three rivers to follow: we ran the car over some of as bad grades as there are in this part of the country, and the car did not heat or show any signs of weakening over the whole trip, averaging a little better than 15 miles per gallon, which is good considering the grade and sand we had to pull thru.
'On Lyttle Creek the Dyas man wanted a picture of the river and his out-fit and we drove the Mitchell over the sand and dropped into sand up to the housing. Everyone thought we were there till someone pulled us out but we just put her into low and stepped on the throttle and came out to the wonderment of a crowd of auto owners who had collected.
'As long as I have been in the auto business I have never seen any car to equal the Mitchell for power, easy riding, and economy on both fuel and tires. Anyone thinking of buying a car from $1400.00 to $1,900.00 should see the new Mitchell before they buy. We believe we can show you more car for the money in the new Mitchell than any other car near the same price.
'Let us show you, take a ride in the car and drive it yourself.'"
