EVANS RESIDENCE
RIFLED WEDNESDAY
Expert house-cleaners rifled the home of Leonard Evans on No. Lemon-st about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Evans is missing a new overcoat, expensive, new blue serge suit, dark gray coat to a new $60 suit, bearing his name and Yungbluth's trade mark, striped silk shirt, pair new tan gloves, an all-leather traveling grip with Mr. Evans' name stamped in indelible ink on inside and a heavy gold watch.
Mrs. Evans is missing a new wine colored satin dress and plush coat of same color trimmed with black velvet collar, white wool coat, brown beaver muff and neckpiece, some georgette waist and dress goods, gold locket, gold triangular Anaheim high school pin on the 1905 class bearing initials "L. A. E." on back and A. H. S. lettered in blue on the gold, also a dollar bill taken from a pocketbook.
Dark Complected
Mrs. W. G. Seimann who lives two doors south of Evans' noticed two foreigners pass her home going north about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday. A half hour later she noticed them go south carrying some clothes and grip. The men were dark complexioned about 25 to 30 years old and of ordinary build. A short one wore a gray suit, light soft hat with dark band. The other wore a dark suit.
A Crown stage driver remembers bringing two men answering this description from Santa Ana to Anaheim and of their having barely enough money to pay their fare. Later they returned to Santa Ana, tendering a dollar bill for fare and bearing a grip and clothing.
Cut Screen to Window
Entrance was gained to the Evans' home by cutting the screen wire to a back kitchen window and raising the window which was unlocked.
Mr. Evans believes they were in the house only 30 minutes, but that they were experts, going thru every drawer and box down to an inch square and even separating the sheets on the bed in search of valuables.
