Tractor
... One reason there are so many Fordson tractors being sold is that every owner is a booster, and there are nearly one hundred enthusiastic users here in Orange County now.
Sam Coughran of Buena Park bought his Fordson on November 1st last and says it has more than paid for itself since that time. He has operated the tractor more than ONE THOUSAND HOURS, having plowed 445 acres and disced 400 acres.
The operating expense of the Fordson is remarkably low, and when it is necessary to buy repair parts you find they are reasonably priced.

ORANGE-CO MISER LEAVES FORTUNE TO GERMAN RELATIVES
Ernest Schroeder, a miser, for a quarter of a century the baker at Los Alamitos, left an estate today appraised at $32,704.38.
While Schroeder was a miser in his methods of saving, though he would suffer misery before he would spend a nickel, he was a modern miser. He did not hide his money under a loose brick or behind a secret panel in the wall. He bought stocks and bonds, loaned out his money, and made it earn more for him.
Most of his estate will go to relatives in Germany, some of whom fought in the German army.
When Schroeder drew up his will on July 23, 1918, he had no question in his mind but that his fatherland, Germany, would be defeated.
"The reason for leaving most of my property to people now fighting in the German army," says a paragraph of his will, "is not that I espouse their cause, but because I know the misery which will be suffered by destitute soldiers returning to civil life from a vanquished army, and I wish to see them properly provided for."
Schroeder's estate includes $1300 in Liberty Bonds. These bonds by the will are specifically to go to three nephews, who at the time the will was written were in the German army.

Schroeder had been at Los Alamitos for 25 years. At Los Alamitos his closeness in dealing with dollars and pennies was proverbial. Even when he got to that time of life when old age demanded more in the way of comforts than he had ever allowed himself, he denied himself. The cold, he would not buy enough fuel to keep himself warm. Taken with a heavy cold last February he went to bed in a chilly room. His cold turned into pneumonia. Neighbors, not seeing him about, broke into the place, and found him dead.
He was considered a miser, and it was common talk that he kept money hidden about his bakery or in one of the small buildings back of it. At one time a few months ago Sheriff Jackson was informed that a gang of boys schemed to hold the old man up, search his place, find the hiding place of his treasure and carry away the savings.
The robbery was never attempted.
However, Schroeder was not that kind of a miser. He kept his money in a bank, and loaned it wisely. In his estate are notes for $11,000 from a Los Angeles music house, $5700 in six per cent bonds of the Anabeim Masonic Temple Association.
Most of the estate goes to relatives in Luebeck and Plau, Germany. Only one relative, a nephew, Otto Schroeder, of Oakland, living in this country, is mentioned. To Otto two lots at Los Alamitos, some personal belongings and some money are left. The Los Angeles lodge No. 12, O. D. H. S., is to receive the property on which the bakery is located. The Deutscher Hospital Verein, known as the Lincoln Hospital, of Los Angeles, is left $250. The Security Trust & Savings Bank of Los Angeles is executor of the estate.
