BOOZELESS ANAHEIM MAKES DIFFERENCE There are hardly enough prisoners at the county jail to make up a ankgaroo court. Not in years has the jail population gone down to its present numbers. Within the last week rock-botton was reached when the total number of prisoners, including those under sentence and those awaiting trial, got down to 15. Center St. Anaheim The Orange County Plain Dealer, Anaheim, Calif. reason for the slack period in arrests on crime, is that there are very few men beating their way through the country. Among the wanderers there are always a good many who are petty thieves and vagrants, and naturally a good many of them are picked up. For some time there has been a feeling among officers that the removal of saloons from Anaheim has lessened crime among Mexicans. CHEVROLET BEATS TRAIN IN RAGE James N. Hough, manager of the Los Angeles branch of the Chevrolet Motor Co., has received the following telegram from Capt. Al G. Waddell, advertising manager of the same concern, who is in Spokane.on business connected with his firm: "Driving a stock four-ninety model Chevrolet touring car, carrying top fenders and windshield, Claud Miles of Pendleton, Oregon, accompanied by Frank Tiereny of Spokane, Wash., beat train No. 8, the fast train between Pendleton and Spokane via Walla Walla. According to agreement of race between train crew and driver of car, the machine used in contest was stock and car averaged better than 40 miles an hour, beating the train by a good lead after overrunning turn and going into ploughed field where it required several minutes to get car out of mud and back on road." MANY FAIL TO FILE INCOME TAX REPORT There are a lot of Orange-co people who should have filed income tax reports who failed to do so. Elmer B. Burns, deputy collector of internal revenue, is authority for that statement. "They are not delinquent internally," said Burns, "but they did not understand the law. The ones I refer to are those who had no tax to pay but who should have made reports. Inquiry shows that these people used their exemptions to determine their net income, and when the figure so reached was under $2000 or $1000 depending upon whether near the normal year's outlook, a good deal will depend upon the weather conditions from now on. That is always the case. A crop might start out with excellent prospects, and still not turn out a heavy crop. If there is a foggy, cool summer without any hot spells, the amount of beans produced may surprise the pessimists. SCIENTISTS BUILD The First Church of Christ, Scientists, of Santa Ana, is taking preliminary steps toward the building of a big new church at the southwest corner of Tenth and Main streets. One of the steps was taken when the church petitioned the Superior court for permission to sell the church's property at the southeast corner of Sixth and Sycamore-sts., where the congregation has been meeting for a number of years." IDT ANAHEIM ARE PLANTING BEANS Planting of lima beans on the Irvine ranch has been begun by a number of growers, three weeks earlier than in normal years. "We are planting beans as usual and hoping for good results," was the declaration made at the office of the Irvine company this morning. As such products are class condition and grade is invariably nation as when loaded in California The "so-called" F.O.B. Plan would be the ideal way to market Fresh Deciduous and Citrus Fruits and Grapes if it were possible to deliver these perishable fruits in sound condition at all times to the buyer in eastern markets. Some selling agencies talk about selling a large percentage of their shipments F.O.B. California, but generally F.O.B. with them means that the eastern buyer is given the "inspection and rejection" privilege and if the fruit shows decay or is not satisfactory to the buyer in all respects, it means a compromise on the original F.O.B. price or in many instances the car is diverted elsewhere for another sale. Such "F.O.B." sales have not been found to be conducive to pleasant or satisfactory business as between grower, agent and dealer. A sale of a car of fruit at a so-called F.O.B. California price, subject to inspection or rejection at destination by the buyer, should not be designated an F.O.B. sale. A sale for cash or its equivalent on board cars California is the only sale Stewart Fruit Company recognizes as an F.O.B. sale. Both North and Metcalf creeks are being worked. The "run" was three weeks late and is in charge of the veteran expert, Louis Phillips, one of the ablest fish culturists in the state. Bear lake will not be full this season, as hoped. The snows did not add the amount of water expected from their depth, but were fluffy and short lasting when the sun went to work upon them. Dr. J.E. "Signal Selling Service" covers three ways of selling: 1st—Cash or equivalent on board cars California. 2d—Delivered on track in eastern market. 3d—At public auction in eastern market. By the first method a certain percentage is sold. Many eastern dealers are willing to buy in this way and accept all risk in transit. Some growers prefer that a portion of their fruit be sold in this manner and such orders are available for grower-patrons if wanted, at fixed prices from time to time. There is no speculative feature in this method for either the grower or ourselves. Consequently we are strong advocates of this plan and exert every effort to increase this class of F.O.B. sales. Under the second method, the fruit is sold on track at eastern destination before unloading at prices determined on arrival, and confirmed by the sales offices in California. The price depends on quality and condition of the fruit and the supply and demand in that particular market. The third method is the familiar one—auction. The car of fruit being unloaded and displayed and sold to the highest bidders. California fruits have been largely sold in this manner for over 30 years. All three methods are open to you through Stewart "Signal Selling Service."
