HEFFRON WELL NOW DOWN 1100; GAS AND OIL IN APPEARANCE WITH THE OILMEN The Helfron Oil Co., or perhaps better known as the No Name Oil Co., has ceased to be the laughing stock of the Kramer field. This well drilling on a sand wash or river bed is now down 1100 feet, drilling in hard conglomerate, but making good time. At 800 feet gas pockets and small showing of oil began to appear. These encouraging features continue and at the present depth the oil operators are beginning to sit up and take notice of the well and many of them are now predicting a producer anywhere from 50 to 500 barrels. All employees on the well are taking stock and as they are working for themselves they are putting in 12 hours a day. The advent of Chapman No. 1 and the encouraging showing now appearing make the well that a few weeks ago was regarded as a joke to the oil industry look quit promising. The stock has already doubled in value and none is for sale. The property recently leased by the Union Oil Co. in Lock 21 of the Yorba Linda tract is to be known as the Goodwin-Thompson, the owners of the property. The well has been located and lumber is now being put on the ground for the rig. This venture is regarded by many as one of the most daring wild cat moves ever made, as it is a mile east of the producing Chapman well and nothing near that would lend any encouragement. commenced drilling seven years ago. The Strain well No. 1 was drilled six years ago to 1700 feet, a bad fishing job developed and the rig mover over and the drilling of No. 2 started. After about six years the hole got down to 4200, where bottom water developed, preventing the well from producing much oil. Te work now will be the installation of a string of 4 1-4 pipe and an attempt made to shut off this water, drill on and ear out the well thoroughly. Columbia Co. Has Deep Well The Columbia Oil Company is now drilling the deepest well in the Olinda Field. No. 28 is now making hole at 4050 feet and is drilling in a fine-grade oil sand that speaks well for a good well. The oil sand has been running now for several hundred feet. At 31 no progress has been made in overcoming a bad fishing job encountered at 2000 feet. No. 31 is a new well and was scudded in a few days ago. The Columbia continues to lead the development work in the old Olinda field by keeping four strings of tools going. West Coast Showing Oil The West Coast Oil Company has a bright promise for three good oil wells. The company has three wells drilling and are showing oil. No. 62 is drilling in the oil sand at 3104 feet and is showing up very strong. No. 69 is 2550 feet deep and is in the oil sand, showing good. No. 79, drilling at 2825 feet, is in a brown sandy shale and is showing some oil and considerable gas. No. 62, the first mentioned well, will be completed before the end of the week and is scheduled to increase the production of the Olinda field very materially. Ibbitson Nearing 2300 The Amalgamated Oil Company's Ibbitson is now drilling close to 2300 feet, the formation being a sandy shale with no showings of oil as yet. It begins to appear that the sands off to the side of the producing Kramer dip deep. On the Yorba tract the Amalgamated's No. 1 is drilling in blue shale at 1000 feet and has had no showings as yet. However, the Yorba property is held in high esteem as an oil bearing property and another 1000 feet of hole may reveal the liquid black treasure. Bastanchury No. 5 Improving A few weeks ago Bastanchury No. 5 was completed at 4738 feet and put on the beam. Previous to completion the well goes dry. Bastanchury No. 5 Improving A few weeks ago Bastanchury No. 5 was completed at 4738 feet and put on the beam. Previous to completion the well gave evidence of being a big producer, but when tried out disappointed its owners by starting off at 15 barrels a day. The production has steadily increased to 45 barrels. However, the quantity of water is also increasing and may continue so as to necessitate further work on the well. Strain Resumes Development After allowing his well to stand idle two years, Thos. Strain has resumed his quest for oil on his orange ranch near Placentia. The well was closed down soon after the discontinuance of U.S. drilling of the Copa de Oro. The Gold Seal had previously made 2000 feet of hole and had a number of very encouraging showings of oil in the shallow hole. Orange County's largest music house, Schmidt Music Co., Anaheim.
