MISSIONARY SPEAKS AT OLINDA SUNDAY
OLINDA, Feb. 8 Special) — Rev. Charles A. Kent, returned missionary from Africa, spoke at the Olinda M. E. church Sunday morning, being greeted by a large attendance despite the threatening weather.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Clark and children, Mrs. Alice Reynolds of Nebraska, motored to San Jacinto visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John Elliott, formerly of the Columbia lease. They report Mr. Elliott's health about the same.
Mrs. Lem Greene, of the West Coast lease, who has been quite sick, was able to sit up a little Sunday.
Mr. Beltz, of the Olinda lease, is suffering with pneumonia following the influenza. His wife is just able to be around.
Mr. Lyman, of the Olinda lease, is reported quite sick.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Waller, of the Columbia lease, entertained Miss Margaret Waller and Ray Chambers, sister and nephew of Mr. Waller, over the week-end. Ray Chambers will soon go to his former home in Kansas.

Rev. E. A. Lewis and Ernest Matthews, of Chicago, Ill., will begin a series of revival meetings in the Nazarine church of Olinda Sunday, Feb. 9. These talented young preachers conducted a very successful meeting here three years ago and won the hearts of the entire community with their splendid preaching and singing.
Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Emery, of the Olinda lease, are the proud parents of a nine-pound girl, born at the Fullerton hospital Tuesday morning, Feb. 4. The little miss has been given the name of Ruth. Mother and baby are doing well. We are wondering how Grandpa Schrubner's hat fits. Rather tight, is it not, Grandpa?

The Brea P.-T. A. invited the Olinda P.-T. A. Thursday of last week to a general meeting. Five ladies responded. Dalty refreshments were served and a good time reported.
A kitchen party was held by the alluminum demonstrator at Mrs. Campbell's, of the West Coast Boarding house. Ten ladies were present and a pleasant and profitable afternoon spent.

SAN BERNARDINO, Feb. 5 (Special)—Rapid progress is being made in the construction of the ninth National Orange Show, the doors of which open Friday night; Feb. 14, next week, and continue open for nine days and nights, until Feb. 23.
Two Sundays and one holiday, Washington's birthday, fall during the exposition period and General Manager F. M. Renfro is expecting a record breaking attendance.
The big tents are in place and a big crowd of carpenters and workmen are hurrying the construction to be ready for the arrival of approximately 1,000,000 oranges that will be used in the exposition.
The pageant of victory and peace, with which the citrus fruit growers of California are to pay tribute to the successful conclusion of the war, is now being rehearsed. Eighty of the most beautiful maleds and matrons of Southern California are to participate. The central figures will be Mrs. J. O. Gossett of Riverside, princess of peace; Miss Katherine Shults of Santa Ana, princess of victoria; and Miss Freddie Cobb of California missed against Dr. A.of Los Angeles. TRIAL IS POSTPONED
On account of the illness of Attorney Clyde Bishop, the trial of Marshall A. Pierce upon a charge of murdering his mother-in-law, Mrs. C. H. Frazier of Orange, was yesterday continued to Feb. 17 at 10 o'clock.
Feb. 17 was the date set for the trial of William Oliver on a charge of killing Joe Morales at Anaheim at the County Hospital for observation as to his sanity, escaped and has not been caught. The case set apart for his trial are now set apart for Pierce's trial. All witnesses in the Pierce case summoned for today are ordered to return to court Feb. 17.
RUSH STATE ROADS
That there is a movement afoot to secure another state bond issue for highway construction was evidenced when the Board of Supervisors of this county received a letter asking that it send one of its number to San Francisco for a state conference Feb. 12. The purpose of the conference is to ask the legislature to submit a bond issue large enough to complete the "original state highway system and new highways as may be decided upon." Every board of supervisors, every county association table being suggestive of the approaching Valentine season. The ladies present were Mrs. Riley of Fullerton, Mrs. William Lee, Mrs. E. E. Brus, Mrs. J. C. Callaway, Mrs. Dunsmoor, Mrs. Reeves, Mrs. H. T. Hathaway, Mrs. R. B. Herman, Mrs. J. Kellenberger, Miss Wood, Mrs. Stock, Mrs. L. Dahlman, Mrs. J. W. Sackett, Mrs. J. E. Baker, and Mrs. H. M. Peterson, who was the club guest.
