ROUSING FIGHTS ON LEGISLATION There are going to be a number of interesting fights over legislation during the second half of the session of the legislature, says Assemblyman Walter Eden, home for the month's interim. "There are a number of theories or, rather, attitudes toward the question of economy in state government," said the assemblyman this morning. "There has been a decided movement, as every one knows, to do away with some of the commissions or to combine their duties, with the idea of economising in state government. There are some who are using that cry of economy in an effort to destroy the power of some of who want to wipe out the commissions, others who want to remodel the list and still others who will oppose any changes of consequence. A lot of preliminary work has been done that convinces me that there is to be some hard fighting upon the economy program and upon the extent that it is to go." My vote was recorder for the ratification of the national prohibition United States Food Administration License Number G-29177 Sam Hill Cash amendment. The cry forces were well organized, and it is well that they were. Had it not been for the fact that Wright was elected speaker, the waits could have upset that vote. "The sixth bill introduced into the legislature was one that I put in for this county by which it is proposed to declare the waste of underground waters to be a public nuisance. The bill has been referred to the conservation committee. "A few days ago I received a wire from Santa Ana relative to the bill for the proposed farm school. Senator Evans and Assemblyman Kline told me that a number of endorsements were given the Riverside location by Orange-co organizations two years ago." As the bill now reads, the wording is such that the farm school must be located in Riverside co. During the netx session those bills will go thru as they read or they may be amended. There is a movement here to have an amendment proposed by which Orange-co can be considered in the selection of a site." chairman of the assembly committee on rules. He is a member of the judiciary committee, which is the most important of the committees, and of the fish and game, the irrigation, the roads and highways, and the county government committees. EDISON CO. PLANS BIG DEVELOPMENT Developments and improvements in the Southern California Edison Company in Orange-co are made possible under $16,000,000 of eastern money now available to the company for expenditure by the company. The company will make preparations for extending and improving its general field and equipment, one of its purposes being to provide work for its hundreds of employees returning from army life. Over 625 former employee of the company went into army service, and every one of these who returns and wants employment will be taken back into his old position. Chairman John B. Miller of the company recently returned from the east with a contract for the sale of $16,000,000 worth of the company’s securities to a syndicate of bankers, and co-incentive with this the state railroad commission made an order authorizing their issue as follows: Eight million dollars in general and refunding 25-year 6 percent bonds and $8,000,000 in new 7 percent debentures. The decision of the commission (No. 6077), recites that the Southern California Edison Company applies for the authority granted as the first step toward placing the company in a financial position to resume the work of building up its properties. Comptroller A. N. Kemp of the company testiged at the hearing that the issue of $8,000,000 debentures is a temporary expedient, and that the company will sell to the public from time to time enough of its capital stock to pay off these debentures, as they fall due. Relative to the effect this new financing will have on the company’s activities, President W. A. Brackenridge says: “It will enable the carefully prepared program of hydro-electric development work to start in time to meet the frowning demands in the large region in which the Edison Co. plans big developments.” 2 can ... 20¢ Del Monte Pears, per can ... 25¢ Libby's Ripe Olives, extra large size, No. 2½ can ... 30¢ Cream of Wheat, pkg. ... 23¢ Cream of Barley, pkg. ... 20¢ Calif Flapjack ... 15¢ and 30¢ Makakake ... 12¢ and 28¢ Encore Pancake Flour...15¢ and 30¢ Valencia Pure Lard, No. 10 Pall ... $2.75 Just like home rendered lard.
