Olmseead, manager of the Avery Company for Orange-co, announces the engagement of Mr. Bert T. Archer as sales manager. The announcement comes as a certain indication of the splendid growth Mr. Olmstead's agency has enjoyed since he opened here only six weeks ago. Mr. Archer has had years of experience in the tractor business, and comes from the position of Pacific coast distributor for another well known type of tractor. He is coming here because he prefers to represent the old and tried Avery line of tractors and because tractor men generally are realizing that. Orange-co presents one of the most fertile fields anywhere for the tractor salesmen. In speaking of Avery Tractors, Mr. Archer said that "it was a pleasure to handle Avery tractors, as back o' every Avery is the experience gain-labor saving farm machinery and over 43 years tractor building. The Avery tractors have passed through the experimental stage long before most of the tractors now on the market had been even thought of, the first Avery implement was the Avery planter and cultivator, which had its origin in the mind of Robert H. Avery while in Andersonville prison during the civil war. "Mr. Avery designed the planter and cultivator with a pointed stick." DAY OF HIGH PRICED MUSIC SHOWS GONE Monday night will be the big night in Los Angeles theatrical circles when the curtain rises at Clune's Auditorium and for the first time as a musical comedy and vaudeville house at popular prices. It will mark the passing of the high priced musical comedy shows on the Pacific coast. The quality of the shows that will be presented to the people of Los Angeles by Ackerman and Harris will be equal to any productions that have been seen here in recent years at much higher prices. When one stops to think how Clune's Auditorium can show a musical comedy with a cast of 50 people and six vaudeville acts for 30 cents, they will realize that it is only due to the fact that it is the largest theater in the west. It is the intention of W. H. Clune and Ackerman and Harris to give to the public of Los Angeles nothing but good clean musical comedy and not cheap burlesque shows. Will King. America's greatest character actor and singer. CHEVROLET CAR WHAT THEY WANT Mr. Chas. Rohr and Mr. Tim McDonough, of Cleveland, Ohio, just landed in Anaheim, to get away from the cold winter months of Cleveland. Not wanting to ship their heavy car here, yet wanting to tour Southern California, consequently they had to have a car. Not wanting to buy a car that would depreciate much in price, at the same time wanting one that would climb all the mountains that they wanted to visit, they knew that the Chevrolet would meet all of these requirements, so there was only one thing to do, and that was to find the local CHEVROLET Dealer. Being informed that the Taggart Motor Co. handled the CHEVROLET CAR, in less than ten minutes after entering the Taggart Motor Co. show room, they were the proud owners of a new CHEVROLET CAR. PROTEST AT R. R. HOUSES A petition from 117 prominent citizens of Fullerton has been filed with the city council protesting against the building of a concrete structure by the Santa Fe at Highland and Santa Fe avenues for the housing of its Mexican employees, for which a permit had already been issued and material placed on the ground. The petitioners asked if it would not be possible to prevent the erection at that point or at least the housing of the Mexican element in that locality. SOUTH DAKOTA PICNIC Clune's Auditorium can show a musical comedy with a cast of 50 people and six vaudeville acts for 30 cents, they will realize that it is only due to the fact that it is the largest theater in the west. It is the intention of W. H. Clune and Ackerman and Harris to give to the public of Los Angeles nothing but good clean musical comedy and not cheap burlesque shows. Will King, America's greatest character actor, and his company of 50 people will be the big feature of the opening bill. Mr. King has been the hit of the season in San Francisco and had several weeks more to run in the northern city. TRACTORS CUT DOWN NUMBER OF HORSES A census of the live stock of Ontario, figures on which are reported by the Grand Trunk railway system, shows a decrease in the number of horses for 1918 over 1914 of from 774,000 to 733,000, due, says the report, to the influence of the tractor on farming. There also has been a noticeable decrease in the number of fowl, due to the fact that the care of fowl is mainly in the hands of women and children who have been too busily engaged in the fields since 1915 to take care of poultry. The following table shows the number of head of animals of various kinds and of poultry on Ontario farms in 1914 and 1918: Total cattle ... 2,604,000 2,872,000 Livestock ... 1914 1918 Horses ... 774,000 773,000 Milch cows ... 1,006,000 1,102,000 Sheep ... 922,000 972,000 Hogs ... 1,770,000 1,656,000 Poultry ... 14,175,000 12,271,000 PLAN GREAT DISPLAY SAN BERNARDINO, Jan. 24.—San Gabriel valley, the big citrus fruit producing region of Los Angeles county, will enter a great display of choice fruits in the ninth National Orange Show, to be held here Feb. 14 to 23. It will be in the form of a great bowl, with golden fruit pyramided to the center, and out of which a fountain will send showers of sparkling water. The display will protest against the building of a concrete structure by the Santa Fe at Highland and Santa Fe avenues for the housing of its Mexican employees, for which a permit had already been issued and material placed on the ground.
