Swindle spent several days last week in Los Angeles on business. Geo. Theodore underwent a minor operation at the sanitarium Saturday. Jack Cadman of Los Angeles visited in this city yesterday with friends. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Randall and family visited friends at Riverside yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Leslie and Mildred Leslie, motored to Los Angeles yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. J. Hall of Uplands visited with Alice Grimshaw Sunday afternoon. Born—To Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Cruncleton of Orange, at the Sanitarium, Jan 3, a boy. Mrs. George Stout left today for Elsinore to spend a month at the hot springs. Miss Mae Frahm, of the gas office force, is confined to her home with a severe cold. Mrs. S. R. Walters, Mrs. Elliott and Mrs. Brewer visited in Long Chas. E. Schneider, of South Olive-st, who has been ill at his home for a week, is still ill and is about the same. Miss Lura Mull, who has been ill at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Carrie Adams, with the flu, is again up and around. Miss Mildred Carter returned to work this morning at Woolworth's, after being ill with the influenza for a week. Wayne Amack and Fern Quarton motored to Long Beach last evening and were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. I Jewell. Mrs. Lizzie Tuggle returned last evening from Los Angeles where she spent the past week visiting friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. L. Dahlman and Mrs. Eva Boyd attended the installation of officers O. E. S. of the Orange lodge Friday evening. Clark Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Scott, of 122 E. Alberta-st, arrived home last evening from camp at New Orleans. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Bradley, not Amy Wisser, have returned from their honeymoon and are at home to their friends in Riverside. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Reeks, Miss Gladys Reeks, Mrs. M. Bragdon and Miss Vera Bragdon motored to Pasadena yesterday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Rimpau, Mrs. Smythe, Misses Beatrice and Z. Siemann motored to Hollywood yesterday and visited with some South Dakota friends. Miss Margaret Butler of El Centro has been the house guest of Miss Edna Leep. Yesterday Miss Leep, Miss Butler and Ben Yorba joined friends in Los Angeles and motored to Venice for the day. W. Campton of the Kafateria Shoe Store, spent yesterday with his wife and mother, Mrs. Wardell, in Los Angeles. They will come to Anaheim this week and will make their home at 111 Lincoln-ave. Mrs. D. Bryce and Robert Birch of Mineral Wells, Texas, both navy men, have returned to San Diego after spending ten days with their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Ingram of Kroeger-st. Mrs. J. Probst of E. Broadway, has returned from Pasadena and Los Angeles, where she visited her niece, Miss Juanita Hansen, who plays in pictures with Wm. Hart. This time the attendance of pupils was good, but there has been a shortage of teachers. Miss Olive Shong has been employed by the board to take the place of the late Miss Welk. Miss Shong is a graduate of Chicago university. Che has been employed in the Groceteria since coming to Placentia, being a stockholder in the establishment, but prefers school work. Miss Nanile Williams has taken her place in the store. J. S. Feffett, of Bellflower, has rented the Vogele building at 115 E. Santa Fe and will open a plumbing and tin shop. Tony Martinez, one of Placentia's representatives in the navy, spent his holiday furlough with a brother in Phoenix, Ariz. J. A. Poore has sold his residence on Bradford-ave and has moved to Pasadena. The Poores were among the early settlers in Placentia and have many friends who will be glad to see them when they run over for an occasional visit. The members of the Presbyterian congregation, with a number of guests, enjoyed a very interesting watch night service at the church Tuesday evening. Mr. Ed Cline and family are reported down with the flu. Mr. Cline has pneumonia. Mr. Walt Hilburn and daughter, Louisa, visited their ranch near Corvina, Sunday. Mr. Rodger and Mr. Aldrich, tank builders, are erecting a new tank on the Columbia lease. Mr. Hugh O. Gerlach was in Pomona on business Thursday and Friday. Their daughter, Mrs. Alice Reynoldson, of Albion, Neb., came to make them a two or three months' visit. J. D. Case, formerly of the Columbia lease, now a government employee of Taft, came down Friday to get his wife, who has been staying with her parents at Riverside. They will make their home in Taft. Mr. C. P. Scott, accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Billie Robinson and husband, motored to their ranches near Corona Sunday. Mr. J. B. Case and wife called on his sister, Mrs. W. H. Clark Saturday. Bradford is recovering from an acute attack of asthma which kept him at home for about two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Luzier spent New Year's Day with their daughter at Anaheim. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins, with their daughter, Miss Eloise, arrived from Fayetteville, Ark., Tuesday, to visit their daughter, Mrs. W. H. Bates. The Christmas roll call added 272 new members to the local Red Cross auxiliary. John Pike had a letter last week from his son, Vernon, who is still engaged in reconstruction work in France, being now occupied in the fitting up of a model farm. He expects to go to England in the near future and come home via Australia, hoping to reach California some time in May. Sergt. Walter Schmuacher has returned to Riverside after 12 days at home. He expects to be discharged in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Stradley paid Placentia their periodical visit Tuesday. Since their last visit Mrs. Stradley has had the misfortune to lose her father, Samuel Kunz, who died in Los Angeles Dec. 22. He was nearly 78. TRACTOR MAKES FOR SPEED UPON RANCH George Dunton, Fordson agent, reports an increasing number of inquiries from ranchers interested in tractors. "One of the principle things that appeals to them," says Dunton, "is the speed with which they can get a large amount of work done. Dunton delivered a Fordson Saturday to the experimental farm at Villa Park, operated by the University of Redland. The school officials were very careful in making the selection, and accepted the Fordson only after a severe demonstration. Dunton unloaded another carload of Fordsons today; the fourth carload received in two weeks. A fifth carload is on the way here. S. M. WALLOPS PASADENA The Standard-Murphy met the Pasadena Baseball team on its own ground yesterday and walked away with a score of 11 to 7 in favor of the Standard.
