Suspends Classes as
Fire Destroys Store
VENTURA. Oct. 30. - Firemen,
battling for more than two hours,
today extinguished a Main St.
fire that for a time threatened to
spread to historic Buenaventura
Mission and the Holy Cross Parochial School.
Flames, which Fire Chief C. E.
Dawley said were ignited when
a gasoline truck overfilled a tank
at the L. N. Diedrich Auto
Supply Co., destroyed the Diedrich
store and burned part of the
Meagher McMannamy automobile agency building adjoining.
Romaine Inmane, employee of
the Diedrich company, suffered
second-degree burns and was
taken to Foster Memorial Hospital after he was caught by the fast-spreading flames. Damage was estimated at from $20,000 to $50,000.
The proximity of the fire to the Holy Cross School caused officials to suspend classes and remove the children.
$50,000.
