Every department of the great fair was ready for the inspection of the vast throng that began to pour through the gates at noon and expressions of surprise and delight were heard on every side. The motorcade of 600 visiting realty men from the south, en route to the State convention at Fresno, reached the fair grounds at noon and, after a dinner served under the giant cottonwood trees of Lunch Grove, scattered throughout the grounds for an hour's inspection of the various exhibits. It was when the 20,000 school children reached the grounds following the big parade downtown that the huge inclosure took on a real circus aspect. The youngsters poured through the numerous exhibit halls and all parts of the grounds, constantly finding new things to excite their wonder and admiration. This afternoon a program of racing and vaudeville stunts was given in front of the grand stand with special emphasis on events to please the children. Late yesterday it was decided to add a bicycle race to the program of the afternoon and in a short while twenty-seven entries were obtained. Local dealers are donating prizes for the winners. The advance guard of out-of-town visitors began streaming into the city today and tonight and apparently every road in Kern county leads to Bakersfield. Proud of the exhibits made by their sections and anxious to see the fair as a whole, residents from all parts of the county are here for the big fair, many of them planning to stay the entire five days.
