News Notes of the Oil Fields At Booth No. 1, the San Marten's Oil Company has received and set 8 inch at 3246. No. 2 Freeman is balling for a test at 3135. The water seems to come in slowly, indicating that there is either a leak in the pipe or that it is coming in from some other well. The United Oil Company has both Denni No. 1 and Denni No. 2 standing cemented. No. 2 set the 10 inch at 2941 and No. 1 set the 8 inch at 2590. The Walker Western Oil Company is rigging up to go ahead with drilling at 2998 with cable tools. San Martenas No. 1 makes Walker Western look like the real thing now. RICHFIELD The Amalgamated Oil Company's new producer, Thompson No. 1, completed at 3052 feet is good for 150 barrels only. The well is making some water. Breen No. 2 cemented at 3090. Bahya No. 3 is rigged up, and Kammerer No. 1 is making hole at 2250 feet. At 4255 feet the Clark Oil Company's Wetzell No. 1 is showing gas and oil colors. The showing is just enough to lend encouragement. Merchants Petroleum No. 3 is now drilling. The Keck Drilling Company spudded in Saturday and the log now shows 600 feet of hole. No. 2 is drilling at 2775 in the brown shale and expects the sand soon. The Placentia Oil Company has a mystery in the way of water. Cemented at 3005 the water does not seem to be entirely shut off and rises to a point higher in the well than ever known before. The water comes in slowly, the mystery lies in the extreme height the level seeks. More bailing tests are to be made this week. The Chansler-Ganfield Midway Oil Company has four wells drilling at Richfield. On the Bradford property No. 2 stands cemented at 3908. No. 4 is drilling out the cement and testing water at 3010. Bradford 6 is making hole at 1375. Drilling on Richfield No. 3 is at 2600 feet. OUR FOREBEARS DIDN'T MISS MU IN GRANDPA'S TIME THEY SAWED AND SPLIT THEIR WINTER FUEL AND KEPT WARM THEY RARELY GOT ANY NEWS FROM WASHINGTON THEY HAD STIRRING ADVENTURE The Chansler-Canfield Midway Oil Company has four wells drilling at Richfield. On the Bradford property No. 2 stands cemented at 3908. No. 4 is drilling out the cement and testing water at 3010. Bradford 6 is making hole at 1375. Drilling on Richfield No. 3 is at 2600 feet. The Petroleum Midway's Richfield Yorba deep test well is down 4812 feet. At times the showings are quite encouraging and then again they are not. Screen pipe will be put in and a production test made. With the heavy mud off and the hole washed down the oil may come in and make a producer. The outlook however is doubtful. On the Krug lease No. 6 is drilling at 1300 feet. Krug No. 7 shows 2200 feet in shale and boulders. Richfield Consolidated 5 is drilling at 2845 and lumber is on the ground for No. 6. Richfield Giant No. 1 drilled to 4114, plugged back to 4160 and still shows some water. The next move will probably be made soon, and that will be to go deeper. Deepening Richfield-Yorba to 3447 feet has made a real oil well out of it. Before all the oil string could be put in the well came in and started flowing. The present production makes the well look good for 350 or 400 barrels. Efforts will be made to get the rest of the production screen pipe in and perforated before putting the well on final production. The Ridge Oil Company's No. 1 is now drilling at 4460 in brown sandy shale. The water job in the 6 inch was perfect and now the 4 14 oil string is going in. The outlook is rather favorable for a well. The Standard Oil Company's Kraemer A TALE OF THE ROAD They were driving along in a big limousine that was varnished and tufted and shined. That was polished, enameled, upholstered and made with an elegance rich and refined. They were riding along and they sat up so straight and so stiff and so formal they were. And there was not a smile or a laugh or a sound but the engine's smooth humming and purr. And they sat far apart and they looked straight ahead, as though they were strangers or near; And he looked out one side and she looked out one, and with looks that were cold and severe. And as the big car rolled along on its way, with the two of them looking so bored. 2-16 now drilling at 4265 looks like the next Richfield big producer. This well is showing all the oil and gas necessary. Kraemer 2-17 has a fishing job at 3950. Kellogg 2 is going deeper and is drilling at 3800. Selby-Root-Hoge at No. 3 prepared to set pipe a month ago at No. 3. The pipe failed to go down and now the hole has been reamed to bottom and the 8 inch will be set in a few days. No. 7 is drilling at 2600 in shale. Drilling on the Wents Syndicate is now at 2400 and excellent progress is being made. Geo. Wents is on the ground and personally superintending the drilling. The Wonder Company Ltd. has put No. 2 on a pumping production test for water at 4382. No. 4 is rigging up and will start drilling soon. Richfield is the development home of the Union Oil Company. This company now has 25 wells under way. Eight of the wells drilling are on the Chapman lease. Five of the Chapman wells are in the oil sand—No. 5 at 4196, No. 11 at 3385, No. 14 at 4045, No. 18 at 4184 and No. 1 at 4300. On the Thompson-Goodwin three wells are drilling—No. 3 at 2400, No. 5 at 1700, and No. 6 at 1300. J.W.Newell 4 stands cemented at 3240. McFadden 3 shows 3100 feet of hole. The General over the holding Canfield Midway Santa Fe Spring troleum is plann It may be sometime you have seen it yourself, just the thing I am trying to tell; The big limousine with its eloquent shine and the rusty old Ford car as well; And the eloquent pose of the persons within, of the two who seemed hopelessly bored. And the two who'd forgotten the cares of the world and were snuggling up close in the Ford. The two looked ahead where the chauffeur sat stiff, and heard the fine engine's soft purr. And one of the others was drive himself, and he looked at the road and at her. And so they drove past as I stood on the street, the limousine big, without jar. And the two who were laughing and snuggling down close in the rusty and rattling old car. I may be mistaken in thinking, of course, as while I stood watching I thought, That the two snuggled down in the small car were glad and the two in the big car were not; It might be just habit the two looked ahead, where the engine's soft humming and purr. And it might be just chance that the one driver looked at the road and then looked down at her. But the laugh that I heard o'er the rattle-bang of the rusty tin Lizzie was glad; And the big limousine with its purr and its shine seemed somehow a little bit sad. And if I should ride in a big limousine I'd feel that I could not afford. To miss some such laughter as those youngsters knew who were snuggled down close in the Ford. GARDEN GROVE The Standard Oil Company's wildcat test well at Garden Grove is now drilling at 4700 feet and is not showing anything. Going on the ruling that few wells ever come into production below 4500 feet in the Southern California field the Garden Grove well is passing into the doubtful list. WHITTIER-SANTA FE SPRINGS Bandini Petroleum has recemented. Persistent efforts are being made to get a shutoff at 3600 feet. A well is declared just as soon as the water trouble can be overcome. Drilling at 2865 the Southern California Oil Company's Sanderson No. 1 is getting some very good oil showings in the brown shale. Production is confidently expected now at 3200. The Whitley Oil Company's No. 6 located above the discovery well No. 1 is drilling at 3285 and expects to hit the oil sand soon. No. 5 is drilling deeper and makes new hole at 2580. Drilling on the La Habra Midway No. 1 is now at 1865, the formation is hard brown shale. None other than the usual shale showings have been found thus far. SANTA FE SPRINGS Butterworth No. 1 continues to surprise its owners. Last week the production stood at 323 barrels. This week the well is up to 350 barrels and the gravity has increased to 36,7. The General Petroleum has taken over the holdings of the Chansler-Canfield Midway Oil Company at Santa Fe Springs. The General Petroleum is planning on drilling fourple. The flow nipple was enlarged to 34 this week and the well is now doing 3100. The pressure stands at 500 and the capacity of production has not been found yet. Bell 2 and 4 are building rigs. Bell No. 3 is rigging up. Flood No. 1 and Sanchez No. 1 are drilling at 1000 and 700 respectively. Alexander No. 1 is rigging up. Farewell Nolis building rig and Howard No. 1 has been located. Meyer No. 3 is cleaning out and is coming back on production. The production got down as low as 30 barrels, it is now 70. Meyer No. 5 at 4977 is fishing for 7 joints of drill pipe. Meyer 4 is redrilling at 4075. BIXBY HILLS The Bixby Ranch Syndicate has plugged its 4675 foot well back to 4700 and will make a test for a show-injected there. The National Exploration Company's Olinda No. 1 is now drilling at 4100, the formation is brown shale, no oil showings of any importance as yet. Chino No. 1 got out of the pipe trouble and is now going ahead at 1790 in hard brown shale. MONTEBELLO FIELD What has looked like the impossible for the Arcadia Oil Company for four months or more has been accomplished. The water has been shut off. The work was done at 2828 after cementing about twenty times. Some interesting developments can now be expected as some good showings have been encountered below the shutoff. The Comanche Oil Company has completed the rigging up work on the Manly well and is about ready to start drilling. The Comanche will put this well down into the deep sands that made the Eggleston well famous and make the stockholders of the old La Merced some money. Keeler No. 2, the well that went on production test last week at 100 barrels, has increased its output to 300 barrels. About 30 per cent thus far of the production is cut. The gravity is good, 24. Five wells are on the Petroleum Midway's Montebello development. Baldwin 7-A cemented through performances at 3003. Baldwin 11 is rigging up the rotary to proceed at 2900. Germain No.1-B is drilling on iron at 2670. Jrugh No.9 is deepening at 3555, and Mulholland No.4 is drilling at 1300 feet. The Standard Oil Company was the heaviest loser in the late wind storm that swept all the oil fields and blew down derricks. The Standard had eight blow down on the Baldwin Hills. Baldwin No.5 shows 3000 feet of hole. No.60 is rigging up and No.61 is located. Drilling on the Howard-Smith is going better now, hole is being made at 2100. PUENTE HILLS The Bardeen Oil Company will drill cut the cement set in the 6-inch at 2250 probably the latter part of the week. With a shutoff an oil well of commercial production is assured. The Chino-Corona United is about through pulling cut the 6 inch string and will be ready to go ahead deepening at 3700 feet in a few days. At 2700 some good showings of light oil have been reported. Authentic production performance of the Dhala Oil Company's No.1 puts the production at 150 barrels. A recent test of hours pumping produced 55 barrels. Sand trouble, gas working on the standing valve and sloughing off continue to bother Each successive cleaning out improves the production. No.2 has spudded in and is now drilling There is a possibility of the Mahala starting a third well with the rotary. The Pomena Oil Company lost a shoe joint at 3310 and is now fishing. The Central Oil Company is rigging up at Los Nietos No. 1 and will be ready to start drilling before the end of the week. The General Petroleum has taken over the holdings of the Chansler-Canfield Midway Oil Company at Santa Fe Springs. The General Petroleum is planning on drilling four wells at once. Why this move was made is not known. It is the supposition that the Chansler-Canfield did not want the light oil production of Santa Fe Springs and as the oil the company produces all goes to the railroad the light product could not be used with economy. The interstate commerce commission prevents the Chansler-Canfield Midway from selling its production on the open market. A railroad company cannot engage in the oil business. The Fullerton Oil Company is about ready to start drilling on the Burmudey property. No. 1 is rigged up and ready to spud in. Drilling on the Nevada-Ventura is close to 1200 feet. A lot of hard shell from a 1000, on has slowed the drilling progress. The Petroleum Midway spudded in at Los Nietos on the Bell Community lease and is now drilling. Brownrigg-Kellar is showing some real speed. Three weeks' drilling put the hole down 2650 feet. L.A.T. & S.No. 1 is drilling at 1300, Pacific Clay Pipe at 1200 and Sanchez No. 1 at 600. Helper No. 1 is rigging up, also Whittier Com, No. 1 and No. 2, and Wolfskill No. 1. The Shell Company intends to be in on the "big stuff" at Santa Fe Springs and is rigging up at Golay Community No. 1. All the Union Oil Company has to do is to increase the flow nipple an eighth to get another 500 out of Bell No. 1. Last week the well was making 2640 barrels through a 5-8 nip. Keeler No. 2, the well that went on production test last week at 100 barrels, has increased its output to 300 barrels. About 30 per cent thus far of the production is cut. The gravity is good, 24. No. 6 Monterey is drilling at 2700, and No. 7 is making hole at 2100. The ten inch string going into the St. Helens Petroleum Garnier parted and held up the cementing planned at 2333. The cementing will probably be completed early this week. At 2333 three feet of good oil sand.was struck. The showing is good enough to test out. COMB SAGE TEA INTO GRAY HAIR Darkens Beautifully and Restores Its Natural Color and Lustre at Once. Common garden sage brewed into a heavy tea, with sulphur and alcohol added, will turn gray, streaked and faded hair beautifully dark and luxuriant. Mixing the Sage Tea and Sulphur recipe at home, though, is troublesome. An easier way is to get the ready-to-use preparation improved by the addition of other ingredients a large bottle, at little cost, at drug stores, known as "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound," thus avoiding a lot of mussa. While gray, faded hair is not sinful, we all desire to retain our youthful appearance and attractiveness. By darkening your hair with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound, no one can tell, because it does so naturally, so evenly. You just dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning all gray hairs have disappeared. After another application or two your hair becomes beautifully dark, glossy, soft and luxuriant and you appear years younger. Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound is a delightful toilet requisite. It is not intended for the cure, mitigation or prevention of disease. Advertisement Take a glass of Salts to flush out your Kidneys and neutralize irritating acids. Kidney and Bladder weakness result from uric acid, says a noted authority. The kidneys filter this acid from the blood and pass it on to the bladder, where it often remains to irritate and inflame, causing a burning, scalding sensation, or setting up an irritation at the neck of the bladder, obliging you to seek relief two or three times during the night. The sufferer is in constant dread, the water passes sometimes with a scalding sensation and is very profuse; again, there is difficulty in avoiding it. Bladder weakness, most folks call it, because they can't control urination. While it is extremely annoying and sometimes very painful, this is really one of the most simple ailments to overcome. Get about four ounces of Jad Salts from your pharmacist and take a table-spoonful in a glass of water before breakfast, continue this for two or three days. This will neutralize the acids in the urine so it no longer is a source of irritation to the bladder and urinary organs which then act normally again. Jad Salts is inexpensive, harmless, and is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with lithia, and is used by thousands of folks who are subject to urinary disorders caused by uric acid irritation. Jad Salts is splendid for kidneys and causes no bad effects whatever.
