Fashions for America THE vogue for fabric combinations finds attractive expression in the evening wrap, combining velvet and brocade, as shown in the sketch. A fur collar, that gives a smart and becoming finish to the neck, may be attached to the coat, or of course a separate fur scarf may be worn. The fancy for making the garment proper of one kind of cloth and sleeves of another, featured in the evening wrap sketched, is also apparent in the first showing of spring apparel. One very smart early spring wrap recently seen was made of navy duvelyn, with sleeves of dahlia-colored self fabric. An appliqued motif of the navy was carried over the dahlia-colored sleeves, giving the general effect of a brocade or a figured fabric. One very smart early spring wrap recently seen was made of navy duvetyn, with sleeves of dahlia-colored self fabric. An appliqued motif of the navy was carried over the dahlia-colored sleeves, giving the general effect of a brocade or a figured fabric. The wide sleeves, that have been so popular so far during fall and winter, were featured in this spring garment, but they were given an out-of-the-ordinary touch in that they were slashed from wrist to armhole on the underneath side. In reality the appearance, when the arm was raised, was merely that of sleeve-shaped sections of fabric sewed into the armhole. With each edge finished with a border of the navy applique, the open effect was emphasized, and altogether the wrap was most charming and smart. The woman who is contemplating a southern resort trip during the winter months, and who is in the midst of preparations for it, may develop her separate skirts in vivid-colored fabrics. Sport coats or jackets also. As usual, very colorful apparel is being featured for southern resort wear. Paisley and other bright flowered silks appear in smart separate skirts, and jade or bright red are shades much favored in wool fabrics used for sports skirts. The peg-top skirt is again in the limelight, and in the plain tailored models, many feature side openings, the one-sided effect being accentuated by a single pocket. ASK YOUR GRO ANAHEIM DAILY HERALD EBELL CLUB HEAR INTERESTING SPEAKER The regular meeting of the Ebell club was held yesterday afternoon in the Y. M. C. A. parlors. The speaker of the afternoon was M. R. Maxwell of Parmelee-Dorhmain's in Los Angeles. His subject was "Progress of China in America." He spoke of the different kinds of chinaware used in America and of their importance to the modern housewife. His talk was very interesting and was enjoyed by all the members. After the program the regular business meeting was held and plans were discussed for the Christmas bazaar to be held Friday and Saturday of this week at the New Buick garage on South Los Angeles street. Mr. and Mrs. B. Jones of Prince Rupert, British Columbia, spent yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Alexander at the Roberts' apartments. The Bankerettes will meet this evening at the home of Philura Sparkes on the Garden Grove road. FARMERS OF COUNTY TO SEND DELEGATES TO RIVERSIDE MEET At a meeting of the regional directors of the Southern California counties farm bureau, at the Orange County Farm Bureau office in Santa Ana last night, it was decided that each county should have at least one man at the meeting in Riverside Friday. A thorough representation of agricultural interests is thus assured at the meeting of the League of the Southwest. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MORE PROSPEROUS THAN SOUTH That Southern California is a veritable paradise of prosperity in comparison with the southern states through which he traveled and in which he visited while attending the convention of the National Farm Bureau Federation in Atlanta, Ga., in November, is the opinion of R. B. Peters, California representative. Mr. Peters is vice-president of the California Farm Bureau Federation and is a leading member of the San Bernardino county farm bureau. He was in Santa Ana yesterday and last night for the meeting of the regional directors of the farm bureaus of the seven counties of California. That power rates and distribution are to play an important part in the continued prosperity of Southern California is an idea in which Mr. Peters is greatly interested. The proposed Boulder canyon dam on the Colorado river, which will mean an almost unlimited power supply for Southern California, is in his estimation of untold value to farmers using power for pumping and other purposes on the ranches. Representatives from the majority of the farm bureaus in the counties of Southern California will be sent to the meeting of the League of the Southwest in Riverside, opening Friday. This meeting will deal almost entirely with the proposed Boulder canyon dam and the distribution of the hydro-electric power developed from the project. More than 3000 organizations are already represented in the League of the Southwest and the vital interest of the questions dealt with by that organization has led to the farm bureau organization to join forces. 50 Years Wed, They Still Are Sweethearts LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6.—Childhood sweethearts after fifty years of matrimony! They are Gen. Charles Henry Whipple and his wife, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday at their home at 318 North Fifth Street. At a meeting of the regional directors of the Southern California counties farm bureaus, at the Orange County Farm Bureau office in Santa Ana last night, it was decided that each county should have at least one man at the meeting in Riverside Friday. A thorough representation of agricultural interests is thus assured at the meeting of the League of the Southwest. Los Angeles and Orange County regional directors submitted plans and suggestions for improving the state program of work for the farm bureau federation in the coming year. The suggestions include the re-organization of practically every department, changes in the public utilities department, work on financial and taxation problems that directly affect the farmer as well as other problems of vital interest to the agriculturist. These projects are to be referred to the other county agencies in this regional district for further recommendations and suggestions after which they will be turned over to the state federation executive committee for consideration and action. Representatives who will attend the league of the Southwest meeting in Riverside Friday for several of the Southern California farm bureaus are: Sidney Saunby, Orange County; Dr. H. S. Gordon, Riverside County; R. B. Peters, San Bernardino County and J. B. Vail, Los Angeles County. All of these men are regional directors for the farm bureau in the county they represent and were present at the regional directors meeting in Santa Ana last night. A lot of valuable time is wasted by trying to make people over into what you think they should be, instead of taking them just as they are. 50 Years Wed, They Still Are Sweethearts LOS ANGELES, Dec. 6.—Childhood sweethearts after fifty years of matrimony! They are Gen. Charles Henry Whipple and his wife, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday at their home at 318 North Fifth street Alhambra. "Oh! My, yes, we are very happy and still sweethearts," said Mrs. Whipple. The general is very popular and is widely known from coast to coast. He is a member of many patriotic organizations, including the Loyal Legion, Colonial Wars, and the Society of the War of 1812. He came to California from Washington, D.C. “What can I do for you sir?” asked the salesman. “Oi want a motor car,” said the Irishman. “A first class ottymobile.” “Is it for yourself, sir?” “Sure, ye’re inquisitive, but if ye must know, ‘tis for me woife.’ “Long body, sir?” “Listen to the man!” exclaimed Pat. “Long body? Begorra, no! She’s built like a barrel, same as me.
