Kafir and Rolled Oats Are Relished By Hens The seed of kafir, one of the grain sorghums, has been used as a substitute for corn in the scratch mixture used by the Poultry Husbandry Division of the United States Department of Agriculture with good results, which indicate about similar feeding value for these two products. Rolled oats were found preferable to ground oats for use in a poultry mash, and resulted in sufficiently greater egg production to justify the additional expense associated with using this costlier feed. The hens ate the mash more freely, and, although they consumed more feed, their egg yield was enough larger to produce greater profit. "I'm de strongest of de bunch. This question has been bothering hundreds of theatrical managers for some time past, but this week it will not worry Managing Director Jack Retlaw and Business Manager G. T. Ingram of the California Theater, according to statements made by these two local theatrical impresarros today. The reason for this, among other things, is the very unusual program coming to the California Theater beginning today. None other than the famous Charles Chaplin will head the great bill in his latest scream-comedy, "The Idle Class." This picture, says the theater managers, is without a doubt one of the funniest plays ever staged on the local screens. Chaplin has won an enviable place for himself with the theater-going public and today he stands unquestionably at the "top of the heap." There is only one Chaplin, and consequently there can be but one picture like "The Idle Class." The management is making every effort to present this picture to the California patrons in a novel way, and according to the dope of yesterday, it should be a winner. Chaplin plays a dual role in this picture. He is a tramp, and also a society "loungelizard." In both parts he is at his very best, and the critics proclaim this as among his very best pictures. An added program of high caliber features will also be included upon the same program. These include Eugene O'Brien in "Clay Dollars," an exceptionally clever story and also that great vaudeville novelty, Mack and Mack, direct from "big time" circuits successes. Charles Hawley at the main moth Wurlitzer pipe organ will be among the notable features at the theater, and his musical program has been selected with care. The entire bill is worthy of any show, if the advance reports are to be credited. AUTOMOBILES INCREASE EARNING CAPACITY SAYS HAUSER "Few people fully realize the importance of the automobile in the daily life of the world," W. E. Hauser, of Hauser & Van Buren, representing the Frank P. Taggart Chevrolet agency in Anaheim. "From a unique creation from pleasure, the automobile has become one of the great indispensible factors in human existence. "People buy more autos now to serve some actual need than for pleasure merely. It's a plain matter of dollars and cents. A lot of men who would hesitate to buy an automobile for the pleasure and convenience it affords, buy one mighty quick when they see that it increases their earning capacity far beyond the cost of its maintenance. "And so the responsibility of the automobile dealer has become much more important than that of merely a minister to pleasure and comfort. The performance of a car nowadays means profit or loss for the man who owns it and uses it in his business. "And here it is that the real money value of the responsibility of the dealer comes in. Customers' satisfaction from the view point of pleasure is one thing, but from the dollars and cents viewpoint of the business man it still more important."
