ARTHUR MAY PREACHES OPTIMISM; BOOSTS GOOD CAR Arthur May, of the May Motor Company, is one of those optimists in the business world who it is always a pleasure to meet. Mr. May is of the opinion that conditions are decidedly improving and that there will be an abundance of prosperity with the opening of the new year. The motor industry, which is one of the best barometers, is showing great improvement, prices have reached the bottom and the manufacturers will be on a firm foundation in the future, according to Mr. May. The May Company is making a leader of the new Nash Four, which is a fine car in every way and a great value in the modern priced class. This car has been greatly improved and refined and yet it has dropped $380 in price since July 2. It now sells de-livered in Orange County at $1,265. It is a beautiful car, big, husky, durable and economical. Mr. May says that no man can afford to walk with the new Nash Four selling at $1,265. It has the largest tire of any four-cylinder car on the market and in riding comfort it is equal to many of the sixes for which a buyer would have to pay a third more, says Mr. May. Mr. May reports the sale of a 1922 Nash Four coupe to Linwood Anderson of Laguna Beach. STAGE SOON Final arrangements have been completed by Morris Gest for the presentation of the super-spectacle "Aphrodite" at the Philharmonic auditorium, Los Angeles, entire week commencing Monday December 5 with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday. This romance of ancient Egypt, presented on a scale of great magnificence by F. Ray Comstock and Morris Gest, with a cast of 300 people, promises to be the sensation of the year in Southern California just as it was last winter in New York and is now in Chicago where at the auditorium it is playing to the biggest receipts in the history of that mammoth playhouse. "Aphrodite" is partly historical and partly fiction. The two historical characters are Demetrios, a sculptor, whose mutilated statue of Aphrodite still is exhibited as one of the prizes of the Louvre in Paris; and Berenike, Queen of Egypt, at the period of the novel, 69 B. C. Demetrios is loved by Berenike, but he repulses her advances because of his pure love for his statue of Aphrodite; only to fall a victim to the wiles of Chrysis, a courtesan of Alexandria, and the most notorious of women from the Temple of Aphrodite.
