Drilling on Bradford No. 2 the Chansler-Canfield Midway is down close to 4000 feet in sticky shale. Bradford No. 3, completed at 4270, is a small well. It is not making much more than 10 barrels daily. Bardford No. 6 spudded in and is drilling at 1200. Richfield No. 3 is drilling in the conglomerate at 2300. The Richfield Giant set the 8 inch at 3920 and is now making water tests in an effort to trace the entrance of water into the well. A bridge will be set at 3960 and should this fail to get the water the well will go on drilling deeper. To date the Comanche Oil Company has had little success fishing on the Richfield Union Petroleum at 3670 and the intention now is to go in with a string of left hand drill pipe and recover as much of the pipe as possible. Drilling at 4430 the Ridge Oil Company's No. 1 is in sticky brown shale, showing a little more oil and gas than usual and also looking a little more encouraging than usual. On the property adjoining the Union's Bell on the north side the Chansler-Canfield Midway is building rig and will start drilling as soon as the rigging up work is completed. The General Petroleum has some 50 acres in community holding at Santa Fe Springs and is under obligation to commence drilling soon. The Fullerton Oil Company has some scattered holdings at Santa Fe Springs on which development work will have to be done in the near future. The Nevada-Ventura Oil Company, backed largely by Long Beach capital, spudded in last week at Santa Fe Springs and has close to 1000 feet of hole drilled. On the Bell Community holding the Petroleum Midway is building a rig and will start immediate development work. The Petroleum Midway holds ten different properties in and around Santa Fe Springs. With a bit in the hole at 1450 feet the Scientific Oil Company has been unable to make any progress for more than two weeks. In keeping with the usual speed that the Standard Oil Company moves the Standard Oil Company has started work on six of the properties secured in the new field. On the Brownrigg-Keller a rig was erected and 1000 feet of hole drilled in ten days. On the Los Angeles Security Trust and Savings a location has been made. Sanchez No. 1 is located. Pacific Clay Pipe Company No. 1 is located. On the Wolfskill lease the boilers are being set, and South Whittier Community No. 1 has been staked. Immediate deevelopment work has been scheduled by the Shell Company of California on the G. H., & N. Community lease. Drilling will start in thirty days. The Union Oil Company has mapped out a heavy development campaign for Santa Fe Springs. On the Bell property three locations have been made. Lumber is on the ground for Faerwell No. 1. Hoard No. 1 has been located. Lumber is on the ground for Sanchez No. 1. Flood No. 1 is building rig and will soon be ready to start drilling. Eggleston well is still doing 1200 barrels not clean oil. The Standard Oil Company is starting Howard and Smith No. 1 off with a 21 inch hole. The idea being to start off with a big hole and carry it as far as possible in order to get a good deep test well down. On the Baldwin the Standard Oil Company has No. 59 drilling at 1500, a grade made for No. 60 and No. 61. On the La Merced the Union completed No. 10 at 3063 and is putting the new well on production. It will probably make 200 barrels. No. 9 is 3063 in the hard sand. No. 18 is cleaning out at 2869. No. 21 is in the hard sand at 3050. No. 23 is cleaning out at 2869. No. 21 is in the hard sand at 3050. No. 23 is in the oil sand at 2600 and should be the Union's next producer. PUENTE HILLS Failure of the water to entirely disappear in the Bardeen well at 2260 resulted in the pulling of the 4-1-4 and the recementing of the well. The Chino Corona United has about completed the getting out of a 6 inch casing string and will be making new hole at 3678 in a few days. The work is proceeding with cable fools. The Mahala Oil Company's No. 1, while not on steady production as yet, has made a little better than 300 barrels for several days and gives evidence of doing better. Gas has been working on the standing valve and when this is remedied it is thought that the production will improve considerably. The big feature of this well lies in the fact that it is producing 25 gravity oil, and the oil is coming free from any water or sand. Preparations are going forward for the starting of No. 2. The finding of water below the shoe in the Pasadena-Puente's test well, drilled to 1340 feet, puts the outcome of the well in some doubt still. Ten inch was set at 816, the bottom of the hole being at 1340. Drilling at 3300 in sandy brown shale the Pomona Oil Company has encountered no showings that would cause any excitement. Drilling now at 2200 in sandy brown shale the St. Helen's Garnier No. 1 has passed through some favorable oil showings. Drilling is going good and the formation changes are being watched closely. LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17.-After three days ten jurors were selected yesterday in the court room of Superior Judge Frank R. Willis so that the eleven defendants charged with violating the criminal syndicalism law by being I. W. W.'s. The defendants are being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Reymond I. Turner and H. S. G. McCartney. The defendants are their own attorneys. The case was resumed today. —Formal opening of the Cedar Chest Gift Shop Friday and Saturday, November 18 and 19. Civil service examinations for a postmastership never disturb the deeserving gentleman who has been selected for the position. Underwood & Underwood Immediate development work has been scheduled by the Shell Company of California on the G. H. & N. It is understood that Wilshire Oil Company will reopen its 5200 foot weel at Santa Fe Springs and make tests to locate if possible the strikes made by the Amalgamated and Union. Drilling at 4955 the Union Oil Company's Meyer No. 5 is in sandy shale and not showing anything to speak of. Meyer No. 4 is drilling at 4200 and is in hard sand. Meyer No. 4 and No. 5 are located on either side of Meyer No. 3, a well that has produced 36 gravity oil for more than two years, the oil coming from a sand struck at 4595. BIXBY HILLS Not getting as much as a showing at 4675 the Bixby Hills Syndicate on the J. F. Danziger lease will probably abandon its well soon. Recently the well was plugged to shut off bottom water. The National Exploration Company's Olinda No. 1 is now drilling at close to 4000 feet in blue shale. As yet the indications for oil have not been encouraging. Chino No. 1 at 1700 is in the brown shale. The National Security Company, a subsidiary of the Beatty .Oil Company, cemented at 3093 three weeks ago and is ready to drill out. WHITTIER The recent strike at Santa Fe Springs makes the Bandini Petroleum Company's No. 1 look a little better and special effort is being made to get the water shut off so that drilling can go ahead. The last cementing was done at 3602 and it is believed the Bandini Petroleum Company will get a well as soon as the water problem has been solved. The Southern California Oil Company's Sanderson No. 1, drilling at 2545 is showing an appreciable quantity of gas. The Whitley Oil Company's No. 6 is now drilling in the borwn shale at 3045 feet and is beginning to show some colors. On the Murphy-Coyote the Standard Oil Company has eight wells in the course of drilling. No. 79 is at 4000 feet and making a balling test. No. 80 at 3900 is being brought in and make a 300 barrel well. No. 84 stands cemented at 2992. At 4054 No. 86 is sidetracking pipe. No. 87 shows 3200 feet of hole and No. 88 is standing cemented at 2937. Nos. 89 and 90 are new rigs. On the Bastanchury No. 1 is drilling at 4500 feet and is showing only fair. With a bit lost in the hole at 1800 feet, the La Habra Midway made no finding of water below the shoe in the Pasadena-Puente's test well, drilled to 1340 feet, puts the outcome of the well in some doubt still. Ten inch was set at $816, the bottom of the hole being at 1340. The Puente Hills Oil Company, a new company that has just entered the field, has a rig going up on the Alvarado property adjoining the St. Helen's Petroleum. NEWPORT AND SAN JOAQUIN HILLS Drilling at 2475 the Nu Santa Oil Company has been passing through some very good gas and oil showings. At times the colors run strong enough to warrant the existence of a commercial well. The brown shale carrying oil colors appeared at 2100 and has continued unbroken to the present depth. The Northland Oil Company failed to get a shut off on the water at 1250 feet and recemented. That the Wirscher-Gray interests think well of Newport and vicinity is attested by the fact that they have four wells underway. The original Wirscher-Gray well is at 2900 in hard shell. The Wirscher-Gray Oil Company is drilling at 2890 in hard shell. A subsidiary concern called the W.A. G.O.I and Petroleum Company is spudded in. A second subsidiary known as the San Joaquin Hills Oil Company is rigging up. At Newport proper two companies are operating. The Long Beach Consolidated deepest test well now at 3120 feet is held up waiting on tools. Drilling by the Interstate has been resumed on two wells. The Heights well is making hole at 450 and the Mesa well resumed at 3350. HAWTHORNE The operations of the Kitselman Oil Company is the only thing now keeping the Hawthorne fiel dalive, and little progress has been made for a month or more. The water shut off failed in the 4002 foot Hisk's well and it will be recemented at 3920. A little showing at 3800 led to the continued work on this well after abandonment had been considered. At Playa Del Rey No. 1 the casing froze at 1750 and the well is saturing temporarily suspended. ANAHEIM PLEASED BY QUICK RESULTS Everyone is pleased with the quick results of simple witchhazel, camphor, hydrastis, etc., as mixed in Lavoptik eye wash. We guarantee a small bottle of Laven. THIS latest addition embodying all that comfort, beauty, tablished so enviable squarely the demand On the Murphy-Coyote the Standard Oil Company has eight wells in the course of drilling. No. 79 is at 4000 feet and making a bailing test. No. 80 at 3900 is being brought in and will make a 300 barrel well. With a bit lost in the hole at 1800 feet the La Habra Midway made no drilling progress during the past week. GARDEN GROVE The Standard Oil Company's Garden Grove well, Chaffee No. 1, is now drilling at 4100 feet. At 3900 some colors in the "ditch" created a little excitement. The old residents figured that their fortune has been made. The showing was a temporary one only. MONTEBELLO The Arcadia Oil Company's Montebello well presents a problem in cementing that has remained unsolved for three months. Drilled to 2975 repeated attempts to shut off water at 2828 have failed. Examination of the water shows that it carries considerable alkali salts. These salts prevent the cement from setting. The premature explosion of a shot intended to be fired at 3000 feet went off at 1200 feet nad parted three strings of casing, the 8, 10 and 12 inch, for the Keeler Oil oCompany at No. 1. No. 2 stands plugged back and cemented at 3865. Flowing consistently at better than 400 barrels Prugh No. 9 is one of the best wells the Montebello field has produced for some time. Drilled to 456 Prugh No. 9 is flowing under heavy pressure and makes 25 gravity oil. Work was resumed on Germain B at 3640. A deep test well is complained. On the Mullholland property a rig for No. 4 is going up. Eggleston No. 1, the latest wonder Montebello, gave signal for much new work. The St. Helens is drilling tree off set wells. Monterey No. 4, former producer at 2435 is deeping oil, is drilling by 8 inch at 2525. Monterey No. 6 is 2000 feet in the hard sand. Monterey No. 7 just spudded and is drilling at 500.
