NEWS FROM THE OIL FIELDS
LONG BEACH
Drilling at 3900 feet Dabney Oil Syndicate No. 1 is in sticky shale and is not showing any signs of oil. It is the intention to let No. 2 stand until the oil sand is found at No. 1.
Huntington National No. 1 at Long Beach will not be drilled. The rig is being torn down and moved away. The failure of the Standard Oil Company to get oil on the Bixby spelled doom for the National.
Zemino No. 1 set pipe three weeks ago at 3815. The cement is now being drilled out. The results of the shut off are being awaited with interest. On the outcome of Miley's well three companies will either drill or relinquish their holdings. A fair showing of oil was noted in the Miley well prior to cementing.
At 3000 feet the National Crude began to show faint colors of oil. The showing increased gradually to 3100, where the real "thing" was struck. Preparations are now being made to set pipe 10 inch at 3000 feet.
The Ramsey Oil Company's well No. 1 on the Long Beach city reservoir hill passed the mining bureau's water test yesterday and is now drilling into the oil sands at 2800 feet. Ramsey figures he is fortunate in getting a successful water shut off the first time.
The Standard Oil Company abandoned the idea of carrying Bixby No. 1 to 6000 feet and stopped drilling on the well at 5540. At no time did this well show any favorable oil indications and the drilling stopped in blue shale. The hole is deep enough for a satisfactory test. Drilling on Alamitos No. 1 is now at 2800. Lomits No. 1 spudded in and made 1000 feet. Sylvester No. 1 is making hole at 1050. Long Beach Trust and Savings No. 1 sat 1600 feet.
The Shell Company's Alamitos No. 3 now drilling at 3445, has been in the oil sand for more than 200 feet. Alamitos No. 2 is rigging up the cable tools to drill out the cement at 2922. Alamitos No. 4 is building rig. Babbit Tucker was recemented at 3132. Goddard No. 1 spudded in and sailed 1200 feet. Jones No. 1 set 10 inch at 2696 Martin No. 1 set 10 inch at 2696 string of ten due to collapsing at 2225 and had to put in a second string, 8 inch and set this at 2255.
The Malis Oil Syndicate is determined to make a well out of No. 1 and is running a core barrel to determine conditions at 2900 feet. As a water shut off was not secured at 2590 it is the intention to determine where the oil sand is before making a second attempt to shut off water Malis-Aldhal No. 1 at 2591 did not prove much of a well and is being drilled deeper.
Drilling in the brown shale at 3655 the Miller Syndicate is in brown shale and looks rather good.
E. J. Miley spudded in on No. 2 and is drilling at 2200 feet. No. 1 one of the best wells in the field, flows steadily at 650 barrels.
Milley-Keck No. 4, the big wall of the west side, fell off from 550 to 450 barrels. No apparent reason is known for the decline in production. No. 1 is standing cemented at 2335. No. 2 continues to make about 40 barrels at 2920. No. 5 is a rig. No. 6 is in mechanical trouble and the rig will probably be moved. No. 7 at 3600 feet is in sandy brown shale, showing oil. No. $8$ is drilling at close to 2800 feet in sandy shale.
Sam Malis has taken over the property and holdings of the Anchor Oil Company, one of the early organized stock companies. The Anchor was unable to "get over" and the officers returned the money subscribed to the stockholders. Malis has organized the Malis Oil & Trust Company to handle the property. Rigging up is now in progress.
Fortune has finally smiled on the Peerless Petroleum Company. At 2850 feet the Peerless set 6 inch and got a shut off. Drilling ahead starts today.
Held up with a fishing job at 4020 the Petroleum Company's Brown No. 1 is at a stand still. Harriman No. 1 is standing at 680 feet and will not resume until the Brown is again underway. On the Porter property No. $2$ is building a rig.
On the Towers lease at 3625 feet the Petroleum Midway has just brought in a 1000 barrel well Had it No. $12$ has dropped to 1100 and is the second largest producer in the field.No. $13$ is drilling at 3200. Nos. $14$ and $15$ are new wells starting.Coat at 2250 did not prove much of a producer and is going deeper.No.E formerly Bolisa Chica No. $1$, blow out and for an hour and a half last Saturday presented a spectacular appearance. The blow was dry gas anshale only.Bolisa No.$3$ at 2571 probbed a small well and will probably drill deeper.Bolisa No.$4$ set pipet at 2480.Bolisa No.$5$ is rigging up and No.$6$ has been located.Surf NO.$1$ continues to make small wells $2905$ and will probably go on deeper.Sun NO.$4$ brought in at $227$ and making about $100$ barrels had doubled this production without sacrificing the gravity of oil produced.Drilling at No.$3$ is down $2450$ sandy brown shale.Nos.$2$ and $5$ rigs.
The final cleaning out work was being done on the Texas Holding Company's No.$1$ today and the well is ready for production at $3400$.No.$1$ drilling at $2900$ feet and is making splendid time.
The rods and tubing are being stalled in the Vista Del Mar's No.$1$ and the well is to go on a production test.Drilled to $2933$ the well was plugged back to $2725$ and looks as though it will make no less than $20$ barrels.
The Walker Western Oil Company and the Whittier National, two cern that have had rigs standing in the field for a number of months have spudded in and are now drilling.
At $3100 feet$ the United Security Syndicate is getting some oil shows and gas and will probably go pipe soon.
At Copeland No.$5$ the Union completed drilling at $3700 feet$ and brought the well in with an initial production of $100$-barrels.Answe clean up and gets under way it expected that it will do considerably better.Copeland No.$2$ in the oil sand at $2955$ set $2925$ feet of $10$ inch
The hole is deep enough for a satisfactory test. Drilling on Alamitos No. 1 is now at 2800. Lomits No. 1 spudded in and made 1000 feet. Sylvester No. 1 is making hole at 1050. Long Beach Trust and Savings No. 1 is sat 1600 feet.
The Shell Company's Alamitos No. 3 now drilling at 3445, has been in the oil sand for more than 200 feet. Alamitos No. 2 is rigging up the cable tools to drill out the cement at 2922. Alamitos No. 4 is building rig. Babb-Tucker was recemeted at 3132. Goddard No. 1 spudded in and shows 1200 feet. Jones No. 1 set 10 inch at 2696. Martin No. 1 at 2460 set 10 inch. Nesa No. 1 at 2800 is milling on a shoe. Pickler No. 1 recemented at 2570. Stakemiller No. 1 set 10 inch at 2102. Wilbur No. 1 spudded in and drilled 120 feet.
At No. 1 the Sandburg Petroleum Company has about completed the sidetracking job and will be ready to put 8 inch back in before the end of the week. Co-operative No. 1, now producing, is doing about 125 barrels. This well is showing some water and may have to be recemented.
Running in the 8 inch and making preparations to set at 3370 the pipe froze 118 feet off bottom. Efforts to pull the pipe resulted in its parting. Running in a die nipple the pipe was connected again. There is a possibility now of having to run in a string of 6 inch. The showing at 3370 was good, and the Syndicate is now almost assured of a well.
Striking what proved to be an excellent showing of oil sand the San Martens Oil Company pulled back to 3125 and set the 8-1-4 at No. 2. No. 1 is standing cemented at 3560.
HUNTINGTON BEACH
On the Dennison property the Amalgamated Oil Company started building a rig for well No. 1. On the Huntington lease a rig is about completed for No. 7. Fowler No. 1 is still held up with a sidetracking job at 3433. Fowler No. 2 at 3567 continues to produce close to 550 barrels of 25 gravity oil. Fowler No. 3 is rigged up and ready to spud in. Huntington 1-A cleaned out to 2912 and is on a pumping test. Huntington 2-A is now producing at 150 barrels. Huntington No. 3 at 2719 is flowing and is doing about 150 barrels. Pearce No. 1 connotes to be the A.O.Co.'s big well, it is flowing better than 500 and is making 24.5 gravity oil.
Flowing at 450 barrels the Argonaut Oil Company's Wilson No. 1 is one of the best wells in the east side of the field. Johnson No. 1 is scheduled to spud in today. Turley No. 2 set 600 feet of 15-1-2 and is two drilling ahead.

On the Towers lease at 3625 feet the Petroleum Midway has just brought in a 1000 barrel well. Had it not been for the coming in of the Western Union's Ashton No. 1 some five months ago the Petroleum Midway would have given up their holdings. Columbia-2-1 stands cemented at 3186. Vollmer O'Meyer No.4 set 504 feet of 15 inch. Ray Walker is being perforated at 3005 preparatory to bringing in. Smythe No.1 got a water job at 3886 and is now drilling ahead in the oil sand at 3426.Smythe No.2 is rigging up.
Drilled to 3012 feet the Republic Petroleum was fortunate in getting a water shut off and is now making preparations to put the well on production. On account of an exceptionally good showing a well of some capacity is expected.

Showing no signs of oil at 3800 and drilling in hard shell the G. P. Community No. 1 is either going to be a dry hole or a deep test well.
Getting a nice showing of oil at 2880 the Golden Dome pulled back to 2862 and set 8 inch.
The Gypsy Oil Syndicate No. 3 started drilling yesterday and now shows 1000 feet of hole. No. 1, the producer, continues to average 200 barrels daily. At No. 2, the cement is being drilled out at 2419.
The Holly Sugar Company failed to get a shut off at 3410 recently and today the well was recemented.
Huntington Central No. 1 is getting back to old time performance. Drilled to 2345 the well came in at a hundred barrels and since has doubled this production. No. 2 still stands cemented at 3645.
Additional capital has been secured for the Huntington Midway and work on the well resumed today. Drilled to 2292 the well has had some showings and looks promising enough to continue drilling. Huntington Midway is needed to prove up the south side of the field.
Hurst No. 1 is nearer being free from water now than at any time since the well was brought in almost a year ago. Making approximately 150 barrels the oil is carrying but little water and will probably clear up entirely. The Hurst Oil Company has secured 500 acres in Santa Barbara county and will drill a prospect well at once.

YORBA LINDA NEWS
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hargrave of Yorba Linda received the sad news of the death of Mrs. Hargrave's oldest sister, Mrs. Nettie Folk, near Rialto Sunday. Mrs. Folk who was near seventy years of age was on her way to Sunday school and in crossing the street she was struck by an auto and instantly killed.
Edgar Hargrave and mother, Mrs. J.W., motored up to Rialto Monday and remained until after the funeral service, which took place Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Rialto M.E. church where deceased was a devout and faithful member.
J.W. Hargrave went up to be present at the last sad rites which were attended by a large number of sorrowing friends whose many beautiful floral offerings expressed the esteem in which she was held. Mrs. Folk was the eldest of six sisters, the youngest of whom met death in a similar accident at Pasadena nine years ago.

CARDINAL TEAM WORKS BEHIND CLOSED GATES NOW
STANFORD UNIVERSITY, Cal.. Nov. 16.-California shall not know Stanford's plays until some time after 2:45 p.m. next Saturday.
"Silent Gene" Van Gent, Cardinal coach, is seeing to that. He is keeping his plans as secret as does a claim its opinions on disarmament.
Behind tightly closed gates, with guards at the knot holes in the fence, the thirty-eight men on the Card squad are working out formations and passes which Van Gent has never let the public gaze upon.
Word that "Brick" Muller will start Saturday at end or halfback for California has been going around the campus, but it has failed to get a rise out of Van Gent.
"That So?" he commented on the report. "Well, we'll see."
On the campus, Van Gent's "I should worry" attitude is hardly reflected.
"Muller" is a magic word among the student body and the great "Brick'" work, especially in forward passing, is feared.
