THE TIME TO BUY ORANGE GROVES Later on when crop is colored groves will show twice the crop and prices for groves will advance. It has been so every year. Many groves will then be taken off the market. Others will be higher. Let us show you some, regular paying groves. Will show packing-house records. We won't let you buy a bad grove. The finest and the best 20.4-acre orange grove that stands on "God's" footstool. The foregoing is rather a broad statement, but when I can produce figures which will show its financial power it must of necessity mean that I can show you something worthy of consideration. If you are a citrus man the big trees, so radiant in health, thrifty in appearance, with an exceptionally heavy setting for next bearing, will impress you. Every inch of soil is absolutely the best in Orange county. I have personally inspected this grove, and have failed to find a weak feature attached to this splendid acreage. This grove will show an earning power of over $1000 an acre for this year. Then there is its wonderful location to be considered, only three blocks from the new postoffice near the new city park a block and a half from the Park View tract, with the church on one street and the High School on the other, with a frontage on three streets. Just think what this will mean in a very short time. Can't you as a business man see the subdivision possibilities connected with this. The only reason this opportunity is offered is due to the fact that one of the owners is desirous of returning East. You can purchase this wonderful grove at a very reasonable price. Just fumigated. 5 acres of 5-year-old Valencias that would do your heart good to Harold Clairm GREATER ANAHEIM REALTOR EXCLUSIVE REPRESENTATIVE PHONE 741 236 W. He returned to his work on Monday, being much improved. Mrs. Hartung and Edgar are also much improved. 50 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK Quite a lengthy ordinance (No. 19) was passed by the common council last Saturday. Our citizens will do well to look it over for ignorancelegis neminem excusat. Article 1 section 1 forbids the throwing into the street of certain rubbish, such as nails, glass, etc. Article 2 proviles the following fire limits for the city of Anaheim: Commencing in Sycamore street 500 feet easterly of Los Angeles street, running thence southerly parallel with Los Angeles street, thence along Santa Ana street to a point 500 feet westerly of Lemon street; thence running parallel with Lemon street to Sycamore; thence along Sycamore to the place of beginning. Also defines pound limits; establishes office of pound keeper, provides for his duties and fixes charges for animals so taken up, etc. Ordinance was passed Oct. 28, 1871, signed by Theodore Rimpau, clerk of the common council, and John P. Zeyn, president. Approved Nov. 1st, 1871, signed H. Kroeger, mayor. The following item is taken from a communication signed Richland Farmer: I visited our charming neighbor (Santa Ana) yesterday. She stands the drouth amazingly well, tucked away under the shade of her broad sycamores. And the constant turning of cranks and hauling of ropes augers well for water if there be any between there and Constantinople. Spurgeon seems to like the fun. He and Mr. Bemis have nothing to do but turn the crank, lift the beam and the like, while the boys who sit on the lever do all the heavy work. This peaceful hamlet (Tustin) is progressing steadily. New but modest cottages are springing up and arranging themselves in beautiful irregularity among the trees. Here at Miss Zelma Bailey went to Los Angeles on Monday to attend the Yaw concert. Mrs. Hattie Mitchell was down from Pasadena on Friday for a short visit. The new band instruments arrived on Monday and were placed on display at Dickel's establishment. On Tuesday evening they were turned over to the city. The set consists of ten instruments and bass drum and cymbals from Blanchard and Fitzgerald's Los Angeles music house and are as handsome a lot of musical instruments as one would care to see. The members of the newly organized band and the instruments played by them are as follows: Chas. Schindler, E flat cornet; Joe Hatfield, C. Means, C. Lincoln, Tony Adams, B flat cornets; Frank Eastman, Fred Lewis, Fred Backs, altos; F. Alborn, slide tenor; Billy Fox, valve tenor; A. D. Porter, baritone; John Kellenberger, E. O. Boege, basses; George Murdock, F. Schwentker, clarioneta; C. Adams, snare drum; C. Pressel, bass drum. At the meeting of the city trustees on Tuesday evening Trustee Lewis offered the following resolution which was unanimously carried. "Whereas the city of Anaheim having received a full set of band instruments through the generosity and active efforts of Mr. John Hartung in soliciting subscriptions for same, aided by public spirited citizens of the community and the instruments having been placed in the custody of the boardfor the use of the Anaheim band, now, therefore, be it resolved, that the thanks of this board be extended to the said John Hartung and the public spirited citizens contributing to the fund and that the instruments be accepted on behalf of the municipality. J. union musical society meet every Saturday evening for practice and enjoyment. The new settlement of Riveride on the Santa Ana river 12 miles south-west of San Bernardino, contains according to the Guardian, 38 families and 17 unmarried men, all of whom have lands selected and are preparing to put in crops this fall. The Guardian calls for 17 unmarried women to go for these bachelors. The New York mammoth circus will be here on Saturday next with funny clowns, trained horses and India rubber acrobats. A good time may be expected. Mr. Benjamin Dreyfus, Esq., has gone to San Francisco. We have been favored by Mr. John W. Clark with a very sweet item for this issue. It is a sample of beef sugar made at Alvarado. The manufacturer of this article has proven very profitable to the Alvarado company and would doubtless make a most successful business here. When ever capitalists chose to invest money enough to put up the machinery. The cost of starting the refinery at Alvarado was, we believe, about $150,000. Railroad projects are being broached all around us, and it is probable in view of the great need for such improvements to develop our vast agricultural resources that som plan will be submitted to the next legislature for a general system of railroad building throughout the southern counties. Los Angeles county will be foremost in these plans, and Analeim occupying as she does, the position of a business center for all the southern part of this large county, with her present recognized importance and her hopes of still greater consequence in the future, should not be behindhand in putting in her claims for consideration in these calculations. We suggest a public meeting be held at Analeim on Saturday, the 18th inst., a noon and that citizens of the Santa Ana country, Monte, San Gabriel, San Joae, Gallaijal, Compton and Wilmington be invited to send two delegates each to such meeting and thus profit by that multitude of counsels in which there is wisdom—A. THE HUMAN SEASONS (By John Keats) Four seasons fill the measure of the year; There are four seasons in the mind of man: He has his lusty Spring, when fancy clear Takes in all beauty with an easy span. He has his Summer, when luxuriously Spring's honeyed cud of youthful thought he loves To ruminate, and by such dreaming high Is nearest unto Heaven: quiet coves. His soul has in its Autumn, when his wings He furleth close; contented is to look On mists in idleness—to let fair things Pass by unheeded as a threshold brook:— He has his Winter, too, of pale misfeature. Or else he would forego his mortal nature. TAXI Phone 453 or 736J WEST'S TAXI SERVICE 123 W. Center (United Cigar Store)
