SCOTT ENTERTAINS COMMUNITY COUNCIL The Community Council had a pot luck dinner at the home of Mrs. J. E. Scott recently. Officers were elected for the year as follows: Rev. H. P. Gage, president; Mrs. T. L. McFadden, vice-president; Mrs. P. L. Bradford, secretary; Mrs. J. E. Scott, treasurer. Other plans will be announced later. The meeting was held, although Mrs. Scott was burned by the explosion of the gas oven as the members were arriving. The burns were not serious and she is now resting comfortably. KEY HOME SCENE OF PRETTY LUNCHEON Mrs. Mary F. Key was hostess recently to a delightful one o'clock luncheon. The dining table was pretty decorated with a bowl of yellow chrysanthemums and the three course luncheon was served by Misses Alice and Margaret Key. The afternoon was spent in conversation and sewing on fancy work: The guests were Mesdames Lillie, Stanley, Brumsdon, Howerton, Myers, Payton, Barnhill, Mrs. Krick and Mrs. King. REBEKAH LODGE TO MEET TONIGHT The Rebekah lodge will hold a regular meeting tonight at 7:00 o'clock. The first nomination of officers will be held. Whisky and Diamond Prisoner Held For Sacramento Police LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4—John Moore was arrested by the Santa Monica police yesterday on request of Bernard McShane, chief of police of Sacramento. McShane wired that he had a felony warrant for Moore. He was caught half an hour after arriving from Fresno, with J. D. Spiker of Colton, who is being held for investigation. In Moore's clothing were found papers showing he had gone under the name of Nick Jamieson in Stockton and John Stoakel in Venice. He will be held awaiting advice from Sacramento. Marine Officer Defends The Killings In Haiti WASHINGTON, Nov. 4—Many native Haitians were killed by American troops or native gendarmerie under command of American officers during the American occupation of Haiti, but the killings were usually justified and proper, the special senate committee investigating the American administration in Haiti was told yesterday by Lieut. Col. A. C. Williams of the United States marine corps. Col. Williams commanded the gendarmerie in Haiti from May, 1918, to May, 1919. Whisky and Diamond Involved In Lawsuit LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4.—Thirty three barrels of whisky or government warehouse certificates for the same are involved in a suit filed in the superior court yesterday by Jacob M. Gartman against Attorney J. F. Schwartz. Gartman alleges that he placed diamonds and the liquor certificates to the total value of $26,000 in the custody of Schwartz during the course of a deal to trade diamonds and certificates for certain lands. The deal fell through and Gartman alleges that Schwartz has refused to return the property. Car Operator Robbed As Trolley Comes Off LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4.—When a one-man street car of the baby tank variety neared the Avenue Forty-five and Griffin avenue terminal early yesterday a lone bandit took advantage of darkness caused by a trolley leaving the wire and robbed the operator-conductor of $14.20. Operator C. N. Aubin, the victim, reported to the police yesterday that the highwayman evidently jerked the trolley off himself and then held up Aubin. A full description of the thug was given to the police. Riot Over Crap Game Wrecks Hotel Lobby KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 4.—A dot which raged for nearly two hours between convention visitors, hoodlums and police, badly wrecked the beautiful lobby of the Hotel Baltimore here early yesterday. The fighting began when officers attempted to break up a crap game on the lobby floor. Over 100 police were called and charged into the fighting mob which surged back and forth in the lobby. More than 100 shots were fired before the lobby could be cleared. A check-up after the rioting showed that over a score of policemen were suffering from bruises.
